Looking to develop a second career

Go travel, dude. Enjoy the money that you're making. You're like me, so it might be hard to see the value in spending money that way, but it really has been worth it. Every day can make for an amazing story and you can just head to another city/country when you get bored.

Failing that, you could get into marketing. You get different companies to work with all the time and even when you move up, you're still doing site visits and are on-field a lot. Each campaign can be so different so you're always learning something new. Also, almost all of your co-workers will be attractive.

If it's not about the money, then just find something that you legitimately enjoy...even if it's just volunteering somewhere. But wouldn't you also be bored if you retired at 32? Btw, are you still looking into opening a bar?

I have no interest in traveling. I'm considering marketing... actually getting hired to do consultations for marketing and appearing as a guest speaker in marketing seminars. I don't think I could do it as a full time thing.

Yeah, I'm putting the bar off till 32 probably. The point is to pay off all business debts and have 3-5 locations providing constant cash flow so I can do things without taking loans etc...

Run a meth-lab under your already "legal business". Nobody will suspect, since you started out ligit.

Running around killing different people everyday should be exciting.

Go volunteer at the homeless/animal shelters. Some people love the satisfaction of helping others. Not really challenging but still could be rewarding.

Or raise some children.

I wish I had your problems

I can pretty much adapt into anything that doesn't require me to do anything over and over. I like new things and love things that are constantly dynamic. I can't stand static environments.

.

This exact thing led me to army life. Sometimes it's exciting and dynamic... Sometimes a bit too exciting (but I miss that crap already).
However, when it's slow it's like ground hog day... And if you have a real trade, you're in the cold... A lot.

Write a book about your success, you know one of those this is how I did it kind of deals. However, on second thoughts scratch that because if it was a success then you'll be back here asking the same question.

What is your schooling? I know of two companies looking to hire a marketing/PR team. They have no interest in doing it themselves but you have to have qualifications for them to hire your team. You wouldn't work for them, more like contract work.

Hello all,

I'm currently bored and looking for suggestions.

Any suggestions as to what I could do and how I would go about doing it? Realistic answers only please. I want to be Dexter but can't do that :(

Dexter - yes, I think there are a lot of people who harbour that desire. But Dexter is a character in a TV series and the show runners are selling a dream I suppose.

Are you interested in the entertainment industry? Perhaps you could look at being a supplier of equipment or perhaps get involved in creative activities such as writing or directing. Another thing to consider is investing in productions. People who work in film and TV need to be able to think outside the box and some parts of the industry can be very lucrative. On the other hand, there seems to be no shortage of people who are willing to work very long hours for low wages just to be involved or to acquire skills. If you were somehow able to offer a service that employs these people in a company that offers an essential service, that may be of interest.

I don't mean to be critical of others who are willing to work hard at what can be thankless tasks but oftentimes the people that profit the most are those who have the means to invest and who are able to stand back and assess potential customer's needs.

My situation is a bit different than yours. Essentially, I am retired (or at least I am financially independent) and I am working as a freelancer just to keep busy and to weigh my options. It is amazing how different one's outlook is on work when you don't really have to do it anymore.

My life is boring no one wants to read it. It's simple work hard and work smart. Never give up never surrender - the end.

My background is in finance and law. Although I'm good at marketing, won an award and getting hired for consultation I wouldn't be comfortable doing marketing for an industry I know about. My fees are expensive too because it's my time. I currently make royalty off my work which I don't think anyone would want to pay me for.

I can recommend someone I know who does contract marketing work. Let me know if you want his info.

No interest in entertainment industry. Thank you for the information. I will take it into consideration.

Right now I'm going to take a book keeper course and do my own book keeping/payroll in the future.

What business to you really own?
You keep telling us this and that but never mention yet you want strangers to give you ideas.
Maybe you have 3 pet grooming shops hence you like animals or maybe you have 3 pizza shops or maybe you do some kinda Amway thing right now. You are wasting their time and efforts.

I'm planning to retire around October of next year when I'll be 35. I feel your sentiment. I've worked many jobs that don't relate to each other. It just gets boring plain and simple. I'll retire into the tropicals enjoying 30+ weather all year round. I'll have cash flows from my 2 businesses as well and grow my investment at 12% interest in the local bank. Beer cost about 20 cents, average monthly income is less than $200 so life will be great.

Any extra money I make on the side will be a bonus. I like to stock trade and invest so I'll set aside some amount for that. Nothing too risky.

have you thought about becoming a Porn Star for an all male movie ?

this way you be your own boss, and get paid for doing something you enjoy.

Hate to burst your bubble, but no way you're 35

So you have plenty of cash flow yet no passion for anything, no creative outlets? No hobbies or interests you can turn into a money-maker? I really don't know what that feels like.

Oh crap actually I'll be 35 this year, 36 next year man I'm getting old. But I feel you Link. I hate working for others. Can't see myself rolling the dice and trying to work until 60 just to earn a government pay cheque which I may or may not be getting depending on my health and crazy drivers.

I say if your cash flows provides you enough to breathe without worrying about debts than just guzzle some beer and something will eventually pop inside your head that will spur you into doing what you always wanted to do.

How about Green-Farming?

It's always been a dream of mine to create a self-sustaining farm in developing countries. A farm that can grow crops vertically to economize space and reuse resources. Angola in Africa is where it's booming. It's like the Dubai of Africa.

Another idea I had is an all-year round Ski Resort in Toronto. It wouldn't require snow makers so it cuts down operation costs dramatically. I wanted to start this too but it's very capital heavy. Look up SnowFlex, a synthetic carpet that replicates the attributes of snow. If I'm not doing it, atleast someone will bring this type of entertainment to the city. Did I mention it would be an amazing tourist attraction?
