I just went back to the beginning of this thread. Plenty of LOLs to be had. And the NSX is still vaporware!
You can laugh at the automotive journalists who rated it the most fun in a 6-way track test at Calabogie with some real sporty contenders; WRX, FR-S, Golf GTI... It also happened to be the least expensive and most practical. But even if it weren't top of the pack, it would still be remarkable simply by virtue of being competitive with world-class cars in its category. But that's not even the best part. The best part is that they are making world-class cars that are profitable! None of that was not something that could be said about compact American cars for many decades until recently.LMAO.......please.........for me, it's too early in the day for that kind of belly laugh. (Cruze & Fiesta = great cars.........LOLOLOLOLOLOL)

By every account that I've seen, the Fiesta ST is a really fun car. Better than the Focus ST. Light makes right. Only bad thing is that I haven't driven one myself.
In reality, I'm far more likely to buy something like that, than a Corvette ...
I know you take a lot of pride in the cars you built and I respect that, but the fact is that back in the day they were largely turds (no fault of yours). These really are the glory days for American cars.
People buy cars based on gimmicks and goofy knicknacks, not quality and dependability.
Did recalls even exist before the 70s? They've certainly been used more frequently, and by all manufacturers. It's more of a statement of business trends than a means of rating quality. If that's what you're alluding to, the is no question that quality has increased by massive amounts over the past decades. Probably the single greatest improvement amongst all the improvements that have been made by US carmakers.Not likely you'll dig up a post of mine that contains "pride" in reference to the way we used to build junk.
1 example: during the couple yrs we knocked out E series vans. We were so overloaded with work (55 seconds to do 80 seconds worth of work) it was impossible to tighten up a fender. For about 2 yrs, not a single van was built with a fender more than finger tight.
I could post up at least 100 more scenarios, but I won't - you'd be afraid, very afraid.

GM has so many recalls, I'm not going to look 'em up.
Ford has recalled just about every model in their lineup.
Who knows how Mopar is fairing - I don't care.
Imports - just as many recalls as anyone else.
If you consider recalls, and cars in "limp mode" glorious, I can't help you with that. Enjoy.
Quality and dependability comes down to warranty.
Gimmicks and knickknacks are a way to differentiate your product in the market. If everyone came up with a 4 year warranty, what else can you do to differentiate your car. I dont consider styling or performance a knicknack.

I did not want a truck that can park itself, has wifi, heated and cooled cup holders, lane departure warning systems, adaptive cruise control, etc, etc, etc. I wanted a truck that will be reliable and drive fairly nice. So I have a 2005 Seirra with the pre-cylinder shut down 5.3L and 4-speed auto.
Rams of that age are falling apart unless they're southern trucks. F150s that are 4x4 and crew cab still go for too much money. The Seirra was the best value for what I wanted.

I never said this was the only reason people buy cars. A big incentive for people to buy new is the low rate financing and warranty. I have done the math, and calculated what the warranty covers in the first two years against first two year depreciation..in my analysis, it was cheaper to buy a used car out of warranty.
There is a large segment of people that buy new. Rather than factoring what they need from a car they factor in what payments are acceptable to them over a period of 4 years- 6 years.
I fully agree, for some cars used is the way to go. But not everyone thinks that way.
^ to keep your warranty you have to give the dealer lots of money for the maintenance schedule. $300 for them to look at your hoses a few times a year and oil changes at 5000K.
Todays cars require oil changes in the 10-20k range. 5k oil change days are long gone.
