List top naked bikes for me!

If you haven't bought something yet, check out the Honda 599/919. Light, quick, super-agile and yet comfy. I know a guy with a 599 for sale.

At the end of last season, I traded my R1 for a 599 (sounds like a strange trade, but I wanted something I could ride all day - or at least for longer than 30 minutes and still be able to walk after). I added the Honda OEM windscreen (which doesn't look like *** and actually does some good) and it's a BLAST! The 919 is quicker, but the 599 is quick and much lighter - so more fun in the corners.

If you need it to be a new bike, check out the FZ8 - another really nice, often overlooked ride.

Try one, it'll surprise you (in a good way...lol).

Just my 2 cents,
Mo

You can make a 1st gen FZ1 naked easily and with a few mods they are suitably quick and handle ok too, cheap to insure and cheap to buy being older now. Here is my 05

Not to be a dink, but I'd say that the 599 Hornet doesn't really fit in the top naked bikes list. It's built to a price point and not very exciting.

Shaman; The 599 Hornet is a well respected naked bike the world over. It doesn't have to be the most powerful, trick handling bike to be considered in the "top 10".

It's a Honda. That generally means it has all the excitement of a beige sedan, but is as reliable as a stone axe.

And to my mind, reliable + boring still doesn't put it in the top 10 by a long shot. Opinions differ, but consider:

Street Triple R
Speed Triple R
Tuono 1000R / Factory
Tuono v4R
Brutale 1090RR
Streetfighter
Streetfighter 848
Monster S4R
Monster 1100 Evo
TNT 1130 Tre
Rebello 1200 Giubileo
Shiver 750
Dorsoduro 1200
Hypermotard 1100
Super Duke 990
FZ1
CB1000R
Diavel Carbon
950 SM
Z1000
Griso SE 1200
Thruxton
B120 Wraith
(new) Norton Commando
Multistrada Evo

Please, a midsize hornet is to any of those bikes an adjustable wrench - you can do a lot with it, but nothing well and it won't be satisfying or pretty.

I had a 599 for 2 years and I was very happy with it. Been from the very north tip of Nova scotia to Florida Keys on it. It has plenty of power. Really never felt need for more unless I was riding 2 up and lazy to downshift on a highway.
It’s the same engine as in CBR600F (the carbureted version) and it is very reliable. Insurance on it is super cheap and I found mine to be very fuel efficient (lowest octane gas too).
Bike handled great too… It did everything well, but nothing was amazing. I do recommend this bike to anyone! I sold the bike because I needed something more touring oriented.
I think it looks good too. Here are a couple of picture of my old Hornet:

Depends on your criteria for 'top.' The bland and boring VFR800 topped a lot of lists, for a lot of years. For me the criteria includes things like not needing a $600.00 valve job every 10K and not having those lovely 'quirks', that so many people seem to use as a term for describing failings.

^ cant compare a 599 to that in the slightest.

Sure the 599 is a naked bike, but its built for a different role and different rider IMO

This is what one of the v4 Tuonos (the first-gen European version without traction control, wheelie control or quick shifter) does to a CB 600F, a faster and more modern replacement for the 599 Hornet. Just for your viewing pleasure and comparison...

That is UGLY, amirite? And this is why the 599 doesn't even remotely belong on the "top naked bikes" list.

I'm going to go work on your bike tonight ;)

Nice! I miss that bike! Hope new owner enjoys it!

LOL, Tuono (Twin or V4) is an amazing machine. In terms of performance it's in a different planet compared to a little 599... doesn't it have nearly 50 horsepower more? 599 is a budget, no frills unstoppable all rounder.
If money was nota subject I'd love to have one of those V4 Tuonos!!!... maybe I could add a V2 Factory to my stable in future.
