What happens when we lose faith in our leaders?

That includes family, church, financial, military, business and political leaders.

Are we more susceptible to self appointed leaders that we figure couldn't be worse. Aided by the internet and social media, little Hitlers and Jim Jones types use conspiracy theories to fragment the masses.

On the other hand we don't want to become sheep.

Are we doomed or is there someone in the above categories you trust?

Watching the cult of JT worship at his feet is shocking to me. They see Google agreeing to half as a solid win for instance. Nothing he can do can break the spell. Craziness.

Me personally, would separate family from rest of the group. The rest of the group, I would hold them accountable not in faith.
I would never trust anybody in power.

A lot of bad happens when people lose faith in their leaders.

General discontent grows, and you'll notice increases in the size and frequency of protests, sometimes with escalating violence. People become attracted to populist messages and or charismatic alternatives -- anything is better than what we have! The media catches on and amplifies this.

In a democracy you get change, in autocracies and theocracies other systems gov't crush dissent and malcontents with force -- usually prisons, disappearances, plane crashes etc.
 
The Excited States has never been a democracy, at best it's a republican (small r) oligarchy.
Money rules - what's good for General Bullmoose is good for America.
BUT they have the guns...
 
I haven't watched this yet but Kevin O'Leary is saying "Canada - the richest country - run by idiots!"

I can't listen to this man. His condescending tone and attitude grinds on my nerves.

Carl Sagan he is not.

He has morphed into an internet celebrity...... "I have expertise in one area, therefore you should listen to me about everything."
A ton of his science content is compromised and wrong because he is going for clicks and attempted viral content.

Agreed.... just because you can make money, does not qualify you to lead.

I have always held the opinion that actual altruism is a myth. There is always an angle.
We need leaders that exhibit a trait that does not exist....... how do we change the system so that is not a factor?

What happens when special interest groups hammer politicians mercilessly when they don't get their way?

What happens when that happens to the extent that nobody who is objectively qualified for the political position, wants the job?

What happens ... for example, we have Justin Trudeau as prime minister, who I am no fan of, with Pierre Poilievre (sp?) as the most likely alternative, who I absolutely loathe, and Jagmeet Singh as another alternative as the leader of a political party that I'm not particularly fond of, and a bunch of nutbars as alternate choices. There are no good choices.

At least we have a multi-party system, not like south of the border, so that there's at least a chance of having a minority situation.

Politics of the 'least worst'.
In Ontario we got Dougie as a backlash to previous Liberal governments that couldn't get out of their own way but at least seemed fairly honest about it.

Honest? They spent $1B to cancel gas plants and pretended that wasn't to win a single seat. You couldn't get further from honest.
 
Lose faith? I never had it to begin with.

With power come corruption, doesn't matter who you are or who you think you are.
