Funny how people who like to bash unions never remember what it was like when the shoe was on the other foot.

I wasn't union bashing in that post (although I have in the past). I was just stating that the union is a business in its own right. It exists to make money for itself. It does that by fighting for a group of workers (and charging them to do it). That's not bashing, that's facts. If it was an altruistic endeavour as they like to portray themselves, there wouldn't be nearly as much money flowing into union employee pockets.

The only reason we have unions is because companies try to take advantage of their workers. That too is a fact.

In the past, I 100% agree. As currently implemented, it's an inefficient *&^*&^show. People are much more job mobile than in the past and many of the unions exist solely to screw governments out of their money (ie. our money). Unions have detached the price being paid from the market value of the work and created a bubble that is not sustainable.

Not buying it GG. If unions were outlawed today, tomorrow it would be back to the salt mines.

Unions cost the worker extra. People rarely pay for things that have no value.

For public sector unions, they are a positive for the workers, no doubt. They are a huge negative for the taxpayer as the equivalent jobs in the private sector have grossly different pay. That model is unsustainable over a long term as private sector jobs won't be able to pay enough taxes to support public sector excesses. The government would not be substantially reducing safety tomorrow without unions. They could legitimately crush wages and still attract and maintain competent employees.

Private sector, I don't give a toss, they can have unions or not, that is a private business deal that doesn't affect me.

Not quite law enforcement but close enough.

TL: DR Two firefighters took money from donations meant to help firefighters that had been injured or killed. Prosecution was bungled (delayed and then dropped). They agreed to repay over 4M plus legal fees of 750K. How much did they actually take if they don't mind returning close to 5M?

Looks like for at least one of them they are selling investment property to pay back the money.... Stolen money = tax free, buy GTHA property, get caught, sell at a huge profit, pay back the money and pocket the profit.... You want the millions back, NP it is worth way more than that now...

Conversation overhead at headquarters:

"How close were we to those getting out? Damn. Amend the policy so all records are destroyed within 30 days so it doesn't look like we destroyed the records to dodge active FOI requests."

It's no like fat boy was going to be able to chase him down if he ran.

Who wants to take bets on whether he continues to be employed at a ridiculous salary?

A “lazy and irresponsible” police officer in Hamilton found guilty of forgery will have to spend 18 months on probation and do 75 hours of community service, an Ontario court judge has ruled.

“He did not intend to cause anyone personal harm,” Nadel said. “He was so lazy and so unprofessional that he resorted to criminal acts to complete two simple assignments.”

According to Nadel, the officer was simply saving himself the “inconvenience” of having to go back to the homes to get the required signatures.

“Even then, that inconvenience would have been remunerated as part of his regular shift duties as a patrol officer,” Nadel noted.

“Officer Smith’s crimes, despite being acts of malfeasance during the course of his duties, were the criminal acts of a lazy and irresponsible police officer,” Nadel wrote.

EDIT:
Yup. Over 100K a year for someone that is "so lazy and so unprofessional that he resorted to criminal acts to complete two simple assignments."

It's hard to make this stuff up. Another confrontation between Aylmer police and wankers at the church that refuses to comply. Two people from the church were leading the charge against restriction. They were going on about having decades of experience in law enforcement. They were both off-duty Toronto police officers that have now been charged. So they are being paid six figures to enforce the laws and they pick and choose the ones that they should have to follow. Amazing.
