LA Fires

Enduro or adv on path/ trail system.
Maybe. What are the odds an eco-warrior will be actively working to stop that? I say that in an emergency, let people get out expeditiously as long as they aren't putting others at risk. Wong-tam will be out there with a sign that says motorized vehicles are not allowed and sticks to poke through your spokes.

It’s a terrible tragedy. I don’t think there is a city in North America , let alone the world equipped to supply enough water from hydrants to fight the fires raging through the area.

I do think the questions raised about habitat management and any changes to accommodate wildlife should be examined.

There does seem to be some abandonment of sound and practical habitat management to better serve environmental activism. But that could just be right wing rhetoric.

Reading and watching all the news - shrubs close to houses were not allowed to be removed to protect wild life, empty fire reservoirs, cuts and DEI controversy to Fire Services, other reasons, but it seems the legacy media protecting whose in power there as it not anyone's fault...
Misinformation and disinformation is rampant.

Yes global warming exist but does it mean we just sit and wait till we all burn or go under water and not actively preparing?
I wander what natural disaster in Toronto is possible we are ignoring right now?

We're not immune to brush fires, floods, tornadoes, etc.

Risk mitigation is a fine balance. The downsides (if nothing else, the cost) of any countermeasures have to be weighed against the benefits. That balance doesn't stay static, either. At a certain point, you just have to stop worrying about what happens when a meteor strikes.

Won't be long now and the media will be out blaming MAGA for these fires
Trump doesn’t help himself calling the governor names and stating he is going to fix things. It’s divisive and makes the job harder on everyone dealing with the crisis.

You can disagree with the way the state is run and even have an opinion on how things are mismanaged. But, gather the details from a detailed investigation and state your case of how things could have been mitigated or avoided.

Trumps an idiot, for a smart man he make dumb statements

It seems everyone wants to argue and make each other look bad, and be right and have an opinion. It doesn't matter what you say, if your right or your wrong someone is going to rip you apart online. You could be 💯 correct and there will be that one person who has to say something and then the argument just takes off from there! The internet is currently toxic. All levels of government should be cooperating trying their best to fix all the problems that are currently happening. The fires are just one of the many problems.

Not wrong ...

Most places in the world that deal with a lot of fires do proper backburns and fire management, and even then large fires still happen. California has completely let down its constituents for the sake of some wildlife.

Also:

The place was a bone dry tinder box due to drought, and strong Santa Ana winds will blow sparks and embers a long way.

Once a fire is out of control. it basically knows no boundaries. I've seen the fires in Alberta burn. As fast as the LA fires are moving they are not going to get ahead of it. it will eventually burn itself out

If true, this didn't help. Going around shutting off gas at individual houses after neighbourhood is wiped out. Surprised that gas company didn't shut off the entire area days ago.

Is stupidity considered a natural disaster?

NIMBY. I sincerely feel my neighbours should take more action to protect my home.
