Kitchener/Waterloo area, c u next trackday riders thread!

hello, I'm new to the whole track thing. I've been wanting to try TMP intro to track days for Aug 11. I would be using my street bike and have to ride down from waterloo to the track (I don't have access to a trailer). I would need to bring a napsack with tape, zipties, tools, food, and lots of water.

I have a couple questions about the track & track days is general:

1. Is there a locker or something I could place the napsack into at TMP
2. Is there a place I can lean my bike onto because I can't transport a stand. Or can I tear off the ziptie on my kick stand and then replace it when I want to go back out? Or am I not allowed to use zip ties to secure my kick stand?

Thank for your help

1) As far as I know there aren't any secure lockers at TMP.
2) There is a long pit wall that people sometimes park their bikes against. You can use zip ties and remove them each time if you want, but that might get annoying.

3) Riding to the track is a really bad idea... I know there are people that get away with it, but it's really not a good idea. You'll be tired at the end of the day and still have to ride home, and obviously if you have a crash you might not have a ride home. Even a low speed tip over in the grass can break a lever and you're done, can't ride it... If it's hot, you'll have a hard time carrying enough water in a backpack for the whole day. I've consumed over 6 litres many times at the track. I would encourage you to find a way to get your bike there without riding it. You came to the right place. There is usually somebody that will have extra trailer space and can help out.

You guys make me laugh...if Shanny is too far, then what about Bogie?! lol

Make a weekend out of it, take the wifey/dog/kids camping to Bon Echo provincial park after the trackday. I love the drive to Bogie, it's soo beauiful up there, well worth the driving distance...it feels like a mini-vacation to me. Heading to the track on Friday :)

Thanks for the info, as for riding to the track I do agree with what you said.

just ask around a bit before the date, we usually mix and match to make sure everyone has a ride. Worst case, consider putting a trailer hitch on the car and renting a uhaul trailer for $25. Agree with Dave, riding to the track can be asking for trouble. Not saying you can't, just usually isn't a good idea.

For the record, I use my street bike on the track, most of the other guys have seperate track rides. Its more of a track bike for a the street than a street bike, but things to consider:

1.) remove headlight fuse or headlight connectors (my starter and headlights use the same fuse)
2.) remove license plate (its sharp, good to take off anything unnecessary)
3.) tape up or remove headlamps/blinkers/tail lights, I suggest putting green painters tape on the lens, then putting duct tape overtop 1/2" wider. Painters tape flies off on the trailer/whlie riding
4.) remove mirrors, they smash really easy
5.) zip tie kickstand once you get to the track, practice putting your bike on and off a rear stand without a kickstand. Have someone standing by so you don't drop it the first few tries
6.) ride your own speed and DO NOT LOOK BEHIND YOU... EVER. It is the responsibility of the guy behind you to pass you safely. If your looking behind your not looking where your going.
7.) be predictable, no sudden line changes or throttle/brake applications when someone else might not expect it.
8.) have fun, your first track day is usually the best. Prepare for an addiction.

Yes, and I haven't been to Bogie yet. haha... That is my plan though. Head up there for a week. Do a track day or two, then go to Ottawa for a few days, or something like that. I'm a bit afraid to go to Bogie... because I know that I'll end up spoiled by it, just like you! LOL :)

its like going to slicks, you never go back. One day, just not yet. Got July.5 off for TMP, just waiting to see what the weather predictions are, although they can be quite far off, so I'm just kidding myself really.

I think there is a TMP double header that weekend so maybe GB will be empty and be open. Fat chance on a weekend, but we can wish!

That would be great ... Maybe two groups. ? I miss passing in corners....well the one time I did it... Kinda ... Lmao

WTF!? I just went to GB's site to sign up and July 14th is now a car lapping day!

*edit* But when I click to sign up for motorcycle lapping days it lists July 14th. I think I'll email them and see what's what.

Sounds about right.
Looks like Randy may be our only Red Rider...

Maybe I'll " borrow" his warmers in between sessions lol I really gotta get me a set of warmers I hate going out on cold tires... Next season I'll be ready with warmers and a trailer .. Maybe slicks too :)

sure, you can use em whenever I'm not, just donate some gas to the genny, although we might not need it much with the weather forcast, its gonna be pretty warm out
