Kitchener/Waterloo area, c u next trackday riders thread!

I might be down for June 10th

I'm dropping off my forks and wheels today to frekguy, hopefully it is quick turn around

Renos can be put on hold, i need to get on two wheels!

Well I'm in for June 10 at gb... Anyone else gonna join me ??

I'm in too! Finally bought a trailer on Saturday and a one piece suit and boots!! And new tires a week ago... Can anyone help me change the coolant to water this week? What do you guys use for tape - the green painters stuff?

Sweet good for you. I think it'll be me, you and possibly nick f. I know most of the regulars are out... I'm assuming your signed up for green ?? Yes green tape over lights then duct tape over that, makes it easier to remove after.

I used to use electrical tape on my lights, because it always comes off clean. It's a bit more expensive and time consuming though.

Nick! Welcome back :)

Forgot to mention in my PM - you have the loops to put around the triple tree and ratchet straps when you put the bike in the trailer? Got a ton of ratchet straps and I can loan a set to you as necessary.

Ever load a bike on a trailer? Might be a good idea to have someone help you out there too - If you don't have a wheel chock, go to Zdeno's or other shop and see if they have a ratty old tire they can give you. Put it on the floor of the trailer at the front and put your front wheel in it. It's a neat little trick I was shown by the shop I bought the Buell from.

Maybe try a dry run loading test when you're doing the coolant change...

I won't be there this time, but that's awesome to hear. Its a great group of people that do the regular track day scene here. Swamped this week and on a work trip next week, otherwise I would help for sure. What kinda of trailer did you get? If it doesn't have wheel chocks, check out royal, they have not too bad ones for a cheap rate.

I'd recommend canyon dancers for hauling in a trailer, they work really well (search canyon dancer 2 on ebay, about $40-$50 I think), some guys just use straps around the grips, but on long/bumpy rides over time they can chew up your grips. If you need D-rings or carriage bolts for your trailer, check out TSC, 5000 lb D-rings for $5/each.

I use green painters tape on the lenses, then put ductape a 1/2" wider overtop, comes off easy, you get some residue, but varsol/kerosene fixes that. Electrical tape will take longer, but if your worried about residue it is easier. don't forget to unplug your lights/take out the fuse (depending on your bike), make sure your front brake pads are in good condition (I recommend bringing a spare set if you do this regularily), also check what your tire manufacturer recommends for the track (you'll run lower psi at the track than on the street usually).

last thing, when you don't think you'll make a corner, you will, lean more. Your tires have more grip than you think. Easy to say, hard to do in a panic situation. If you do go off into the grass, rear brake only, don't use your front.

In my experience running any supersport street tire (BT010's, Pilot's, MEZ3's) at the track 30psi cold, front and rear, done, forget about it. Totally agree with Randy, lean more if you think you're going to run wide. I've dragged pegs through TMP turn 1 and SMP Fabi turn 1 and Nelson turn 5 with street tires. If you're constantly worried about your tires you will not be riding loose and won't be focusing on proper lines and targets, and will run into problems. Just take 3 laps to gradually increase the pace at the start of each session and your tires will be fine.

Freakguy just PM'd me saying he got the wheel bearings done and hopefully get my forks done for the weekend.

After i get them on the bike, I need to get to the track to offically use my track bike, lol

Any dates you guys are tossing around in the next few weeks? (preferably weekdays, low volume)

I think that will work!

Ya I'm working on smp too .. Should know tomorrow of I'm off .. I'm dying to get on the long track.

wow, 3.5 hours to shannonville

Anyone up for splitting for a hotel?

i ment on the Sunday, come home Monday

Lol duh ... Blonde moment :) might be a possibility depending on driving arrangements. If I did I'd have to leave later in the evening, prolly 830 at the earliest ... Get there by midnight and sleep till 7.... Doesn't sound that bad.
