Kitchener/Waterloo area, c u next trackday riders thread!

Someone at work was telling me that the Ducati club is having track days on Saturday and Sunday at Grand Bend. On their site it says all bikes welcome, not just Ducatis. Might see about getting to it.

Question: when I was on the track last time, it seemed like almost any tiny bump made the bike understeer like crazy, and it didn't seem very planted. I've obviously never ridden at a track before, nor any other bikes before, so I don't know how normal that is. Thoughts? =(

Yes, you can go, but you'll have to join the club. I'm not sure how much it costs.

By understeer do you mean it makes the bike run wide? Trying to debug suspension issues on the internet is sort of impossible. haha

Yeah, it sounds that way. It's $35 to join for a year, so that's not too bad.

And correct, it runs wide - it feels too bouncy. Yeah, I understand it's a bit hard to diagnose over the interwebs, but imagine trying to diagnose it using the internet with no idea what is supposed to feel right x_x. I could be on the best handling bike in the world (it isn't), and I wouldn't know it, haha.

If it's too bouncy you could try adding more rebound damping. Any changes you make, make them small changes. 1 or 2 clicks at a time. Is the sag properly adjusted for your weight?

The sag has been set based on my weight, but I put on about 20lbs before my last track experience and didn't know it, so it probably threw it off. I readjusted it last night. I'll try playing with the rebound damping and see how it feels. I did try adjusting it to the max and min settings and seeing what difference it made in return speed, and there didn't seem to be much (or any), so I'm not entirely convinced it's working properly. I re-set it to some suggested numbers I found on the web.

Being a 2005, unless you've done it, maybe it's never had the fork oil changed.

Yeah, that's possible. The front seems to be okay, and seems to respond to adjustment, but the rear is the thing I'm most concerned about. Though I could be completely wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.

Oh, I just assumed it was a front problem. Time for an Ohlins shock. LOL

BRB, auctioning off a kidney.

I'm trying to swing buying an outright track bike for next year, so I'm trying to avoid doing any sort of upgrades to the bike as it is now. After a bit of experience riding, I've come to the conclusion that my bike was absolutely not built for someone 6'3. I also won't feel as bad about throwing a track-only bike into grass as I did my street bike :'(

anyone going to grandbend on Thursday

Thinking of signing up for the stage 4 program

yup, weather permitting

Got some SC2.

Also Drew from trackside cuts will be there, so i'm picking up a set of tire warmers, and under suit.

And now I'm broke :p

debating whether to run the Michelin medium rear and a 448 medium front, or go with the super bike pro's. Dave, how fast do you feel?
