They have caught the kids for questioning but no charges have been laid... Sad...
Whats even worst is, the police department said that this wouldn't be a big deal if it weren't for the video.

It's that sort of gang activity, that so frequently results in otherwise "good kids" getting arrested for possession of firearms, down south. All you get is escalation.
In all honesty, if I was in his situation, I would be tempted to carry something, iron pipe would be nice. The way he was beaten could have cost him his life, minimum brain damage.
When travelling in similar circles, and being somewhat of a loner at that age, I carried a knife. Fortunately never saw the need to use it, because I'd have been SCREWWWWWWWWED.

One thing to think about when bringing something like a pipe is what happens if it ends up in the other guys hands?
i usually found one swift punch towards the biggest guy would freeze em all and confuse em.
Or results in the rest of them holding you down, while that guy stomps you to a pulp.

I usually found breaking a Hennessy bottle and stabbing the closest guy in the face repeatedly works much better. Hypothetically speaking of course.
Any ideas on how you would protect yourself?

I know you can get bear spray. That should blind them a bit.
My experience was that it only works if you Pearl Harbor the biggest guy and then run like your life depends on it, while they're standing around shocked. If you aren't planning on doing that then save the damage to your fists. They might be the only thing left, uninjured, after that.

I laughed at the use of "Pearl Harbour" as a verb.
But if you are in a situation like that, there really isn't that much you can do to make it a lot worse.
I would do anything other than just get beaten.
That turned out to be my ultimate default position, because then they couldn't claim that I started it (no visible injuries to anyone but me).

I have studied a ton self defense and the best thing you can do in this position is to find ab escape route asap
The first second they approach you analayze and decide you are screwed real quick and dont let them surround you and look for the escape route as soon as you find the escape route opening....strike the closest guy in the throat but if u dont have a clear shot then do and open palm strike right to the nose and run. This is harder said then done but you have to do all this before they get confident and comfy. You have to access analyze and do the first strike as quick as you can.
The key is you really have to learn how to strike. If you know that you can really do damage with a single strike and buy yourslef a few seconds to run and scream and cry for help. Its sounds girly but you cant mess around with 7-1
If anyone wants to learn and practice proper striking let me know. I used to teach people for free on kijiji. I am happy to practice with anyone. Everyone should know how to defend themselves and striking is like anything else the more you do it the better you are.
