He's an idiot is the problem. His behaviour during this mess cemented that. He had a few good points and the rest of the time has just been whining to say to say he is doing something. Cons need a candidate that isn't an idiot and they would have won the last few elections. They seem unable to put that candidate forward.
Smart people stay the fk away from the political circus. Way to dirty of a game. Want to be cancelled because you flirted with a girl you liked that one time? Go into politics.

I don't know about that. There is a very good career path where you work for eight years as a young MP/MPP and by the time they are in your early 30's, they have locked in a defined benefit pension at close to 100K from 55 on. No further retirement savings required for the rest of their life if they are so inclined.

True but those positions along with directorships are limited. If you're smart enough to be a successful lawyer/engineer/doctor/business owner/tradesman (i.e. the types of people you'd want running the government) then you won't be looking to land a cushy job for the pension -- you'd be looking to chart your own path and make $$ doing it. Not to say that people don't do it, though.

Not that woman anyways. In 2016 it looked like Trump was going to be train wreck and Clinton was going to be the choo choo train ride at the county fair. Pay your money to go in circles, getting nowhere.
Voters are notoriously stupid. Obama inherited Bushes disasters and Trump inherited Obamas fixes.
Trump has become the train wreck as has the Democratic party. They are coming across as a bunch of crows fighting over the carcass of a dead eagle.
The difference is that Trump has focus. Bad focus. Evil focus. Self serving focus. Destructive focus. All of these and more but a bad plan is seen as better than no plan.
I've watched some YouTube videos by Andrew Yang and like him. I haven't researched much but he sounds good. He would have been a long shot in some ways and then comes Coronavirus. Yang is American but looks Chinese. Doomed.
You could make the argument that some of the Bush disasters started with Clinton: total failure of the intelligence community largely under Clinton to prevent the rise of Al-Qaeda and Bin Laden, also Clinton repealed Glass–Steagall which played a large role in the 2008 meltdown. Not letting Bush off the hook here completely but it's not always black and white.
The Dems have had plenty of opportunities to win elections and they fail every time. All they need to do is:
Stop talking about trillion dollar spending programs like forgiving student debt or universal healthcare. Regardless of what we think about those things as Canadians, pushing them in US makes you pretty much in-electable outside NYC/LA/Chicago.
Acknowledge the porous border in the south is an actual problem that harms Americans socially/economically, and take steps to fixing it instead of using it as a wedge social issue to get votes.
Acknowledge the drawbacks of globalism and the rise of Chinese influence into global affairs, as well as the effect it has had on wage depression.
Stop trying to ban guns and actually start enforcing existing gun laws on the books. Maybe go after root causes of crime (mental illness, joblessness, social issues, etc.) too.
Stop electing people who have been in politics since the early 80s and pick someone charismatic who also holds reasonable political opinions. There were several options in the last race, none of whom made it anywhere.
I guess you missed it. The election was lost in the east, so was the last one. It would have been Harper, but because he ****** with EI, he lost the east to an "ABC" campaign. Sad thing is, lieberals haven't even hinted at fixing it, and the east still goes with them.
Philippe J. Fournier: A riding-by-riding breakdown of the election results shows the Conservatives' biggest weaknesses—and a troubling urban-rural divide
www.macleans.ca
Case in point: among the 60 electoral districts with the highest population density in Canada, the Conservative won a grand total of zero of them (Liberals 50, NDP 8, BQ 1, IND 1)
to paraphrase.....I wouldn’t want to be a member of any club that would have me.,,,
that’s modern day politics...you might be energetic and idealistic but the modern western political system doesn’t seem to allow that to flourish...instead, you have play the game and the game is rigged.

Operation Cyclone. Al-Qaeda and Bin Laden were funded by and came to power during the Regan-Bush (H) administration.Prior to that GH was the director of the CIA. He was knee deep in it.

Again IMO Trump is a disaster but the Demos are splintered and spending more time fighting each other than the Reps. It can't be fixed in a four year flip flop. Seventy five years of ignorance can't be cured in four. Centuries of racism can't be fixed in four years.

All elections are won and lost in the east. By the time polls close in Ontario Federal Elections are typically in the books.
For PC's to win a couple of things need to happen:
1) Leveling the playing field. There are 10 too ridings in the Maritimes, 2 too many in the far north -- essentially 12 liberal freebees in each federal election. PE for instance has 4 ridings for 108,000 voters -- compared to Niagara Falls that has 1 riding for the same population.
2) The PCs would need to find a french speaking conservative from the East. The western PCs can't keep the sh|t off their boots long enough to make an impact.
LOL. It's incredible how many of these media outlets think they should have a monopoly on telling the news. As though they're the only ones capable of telling the truth. What really irks them is when they tell a lie, and it's immediately exposed on social media. They've lost their monopoly on what the public hears, and they're now looking to have the internet censored.
If the public knew how to just gather the news (ie, JUST THE FACTS) and draw the own conclusion like people used to do not that many years ago we'd be better off and the talking head syndicated junk like this would fade away if the ratings flopped.
But now people want "newstainment" - give bits of pieces of news (that fit their political viewpoints) and then all sorts of opinions and slants designed entirely to shape and enforce that viewpoint.
The fact critical thinking is an increasingly lost art nowadays and people would rather be spoon-fed drivel by talking heads is the bigger problem. Good old fashioned newscasts by journalists is lost. Guys like Nolton Nash and Lloyd Robertson are dearly missed. We need to get back to that sort of news again, done by pros just presenting the facts and letting the populace making up their own minds on how they feel about it.

They used to have the east though. Back in the Harper days they had it. But he made alot of changes to EI, that ****** alot of people off. EI is a huge issue out there. Mackay lost my leadership vote with that bit of history. An east coaster with the PM's ear(he was deputy at the time), couldn't even convey his own constituents concerns to the boss. Now they're still in an "anything but conservative" mindset, which defaults to liberal. Here we have a so-called insurance policy that we have to pay for, that is designed to not make you whole. It's harder to get(and keep) the benefits than welfare. They axed retraining, ,messed with hours, weeks and minimum requirements. Huge wait times(I have waited up to 2 months for EI on previous layoffs). It's a mess.
I don't understand the east still going liberal though, given they have never bothered to fix what ****** them off in the first place though. That's why I think a conservative with that on their platform could swing it back.

There's no ethics in "journalism" anymore. It's all about ragebait and who can get the most clicks. There's no money in TV or print anymore, it's all about the internet. They need to get those clicks, and rage gets clicks. They also know that nobody reads the corrections or retractions. They will publish complete fabrications, knowing full well they'll get millions of clickthroughs on ********, and IF they get caught in it, they just post a small quiet correction and all is good. They still got the clicks, and not only do they not lose the money from the lie, they might get a little bit extra for the correction, although it won't get nearly as much views as the original story. People still have this false perception though, of ethics in media, that "it must be true if it was in the news". Personally, while I'm against censorship, I think journalism needs licensing, if only to enforce some basic ground rules. Like any story that injects opinion, must be labelled as an opinion piece. If more than 25% of a publications content is opinion pieces, they lose credibility rating. etc.
Todays viral photos coming out of the USA. The GI Joe Protester crowd felt they needed to go to Subway with their toys while marching around protesting the stay at home order, complete with a rocket launcher.
I'd put money on it that every time one of these flash across the average Canadians computer screens and TV's the support for what we're doing right now ticks upwards.
Some places won't let you pay for gas with a helmet on, this guys getting lunch with a mask and a gun. Usually you walk into a store with a mask and a gun, you're a robber...
Wtf does that statement have to do with anything?
I have a set. That's why I'm brave enough to live my life in this world without owning and/or carrying a gun.
I still don't understand him stepping down. Yeah, it was technically a lost election via seats. But it was within reach. All he has to do with another run is promise to fix EI, and instantly retake the eastern seats that were only lost because Harper broke EI.
He had an easy win with all the JT scandals but the entire homophobic howdy doody thing sunk him (and it was not just his homophobia BTW), nothing has changed there. MacKay summed it up with his stinking albatross comments. It won't win in major eastern cities and you can;t win without them. Each passing year it is further from reality.
What the conservatives need to understand is that this is not the 1950s and voters are more progressive than a good part of their base, cattering to that part of their base sinks them. Does not matter what the politician says, because we know they ALL lie--it matters what the believe in as this will direct their policies in the end.
They need to clean house of the regressives and stop using politically correct terms for bigotry like "social conservative" and "big tent party" (inclusiveness of biggots on that one)...big tent is the funniest one because that tent gets real small real fast on many issues, just not on bigotry.
Is JT good, likely not, is he competent, not so much. What he was and still is...the least worst choice.
