This clown was running big deficits long before this crisis.
You didn't answer my question but went off on a tangent about the past, not the present and short term future.

Yawn, the "slippery slopes, assault weapon ban today, but next thing you know they'll be taking our first born children!" arguments are old and busted, and frankly and with all due respect, the equations that lead to these sorts of silly statements are out in left field.
I think a lot of people are missing the point on what actually happened here.
A MINORITY gov't circumvented parliament to advance THEIR agenda...
This isn't lost on me, but the general public overwhelmingly support the assault weapon ban so there's not going to be howling in the street over the method when most welcome the end result. And just because it was done via OIC doesn't mean it is "home free" yet either. Lastly, Future governments can repeal it when they get in power if they so please, or a vote of non confidence on something else at any point during this minority government could trigger an early election and give the opposition the opportunity to run on a promise to repeal it.
But I'd put a chunk of money on the reality
none of the above will happen. Why?
- The NDP are in shambles right now, can't afford nor want an election, and pretty much support the ban anyways.
- The Conservatives are also in rough shape, have a lame duck leader who can't find his own ass with both hands, knowingly flubbed the last election when it was all but handed to them on a silver platter, and lastly, they know that if they try to call a snap election on this issue, and this issue alone...they will get clobbered and end up probably way further behind than they are right now....IE, a Liberal majority again.
- 3 or 4 years from now when the current administration is history I don't think you'll find much appetite for any party that
publicly supports a repeal simply because, again, a huge majority of Canadians support it. They support it more and more for that matter every-time another bunch of the commando whackjob Americans flashes into the public eye. Like it, or not. It's reality.
Trudeau's numbers are high right now on his handling of Covid19, and 80% of the population support this ban in addition to that. Any opposition party who would even
try to call an election right inside the next 12-24 months on a this issue would die by their own sword.
