That's because this is Canada. Home invasion victims are almost always unarmed, and thanks to that they are usually left in a bloody mess, or worse.
Applies to elsewhere as well. Lots of kids sneaking in get shot by their parents in more gun friendly locals. Waking up to strange noises and trying to get your brain to properly assess targets in bad light is not something many train for and they therefore suck at it.

If you are using a rifle (or javelin missile) for self defense in your house and dont live in the middle of nowhere, you are f'd in the brain. You need something with much less penetrating power as you have no useful backstop. You are using a crap argument.

Again, I do not think JT should have done this and in no way agree with how it was done. I just dont like people putting forward bs arguments to support their position. There are many good arguments, why would you choose to use a bad one?

I still don't remember the poll where every Canadian was asked about gun control. Nobody ever asked me. The closest thing I can remember is last fall, where 66.88% of all voters were not in favor of Liberal policy or their leader. I'd say that gun control might have fallen in there somewhere.

That picture isn’t canada though and it never will be. The guns that were just prohibited were by and large already heavily restricted. You can’t take an AR 15 deer hunting, it’s range only.

So, what's it for then? Just to give someone a hard-on at the range?

You have to travel with it secured in your vehicle to the range via the most direct routes and when you get it home it has to be secured againin an approved secure storage device.

Here's a fun fact. A good percentage of the weapons on our streets in Canada come from domestic sources:

- Legal owners who sold their weapons illegally
- Legal owners who had their weapons stolen during transit to and from a legal use scenario like you mention above.
- Legal owners who had their weapons stolen out of their homes because they didn't lock them up according to the laws.

This is another dirty little secret that the "But they all come from the USA ZOMG!" crowd like to gloss over.

I don’t believe there has ever been a mass shooting with an AR15 in Canada.

I don't believe anyones been killed by a low flying submarine in Canada either. But I'm not sure either argument makes a valid point.

I don't need to shoot squirrels in my backyard, I need to shoot invaders in my home. Don't lecture me about law on that one either, I know the deal. I'll save my damn self, and deal with the aftermath. But in a home invasion, I'd rather be in jail than in the morgue.

Once the border reopens there's lots of States that you'd likely feel very comfortable in if you don't like the laws here that are based upon the wishes of the majority.

I'm sorry but again I just see more ignorance and emotion in your reply.

Do you know our gun laws?

This isn't America. You aren't allowed to walk around brandishing a firearm, let alone a restricted handgun or rifle.

I'm well aware of the laws. Now go read my last response above with regards to lots of your other arguments.

Not an apples to apples comparison, I know, but imagine (without using emotion) that tomorrow they pass a sweeping ban on motorcycles over 250cc's because there are far too many deaths each year.

I have to laugh every-time I hear this argument. "Today they come for our guns, tomorrow they come for our motorcycles/fast cars/scooters/airplanes/pogo sticks/trampolines/blah blah blah.

Reality is all those other things have lots of practical uses by everyday citizens.

A hunting rifle has lots of practical uses by everyday citizens.

A semi automatic weapon capable of emptying it's clip in seconds, not so much.

80% of those surveyed, with a margin of error of 2.5%, support an assault weapon ban.

Heck, 50% of Canadians support a full ban on all weapons in Canada!

Long rifle Gun safety should be taught in high school, it would actually make the population a lot safer.
There is a rifle range in the basement of Central Tech, they could start there.

So a semi auto weapon, thank you for ditching the "assault rifle" term, that can empty it's magazine -not a "clip"- in seconds scares you?

Hunting rifles have uses though.

You do know that there are MANY hunting rifles that use a much larger and powerful cartridge than a semi auto black rifle and will empty their 5rd magazine just as fast as any other rifle be it a .22, .223, .308 etc

Is it because they have wooden stocks rather than scary black plastic ones that makes them more acceptable in your eyes to own?

I never made the argument that they are going to ban cars, bikes, more guns etc, although one could argue that no one realistically has a practical need for a 700hp car when one with 100hp is more than adequate for daily use.

FYI your above posts reference nothing in the way of crimes, murders, robberies etc in Canada utilizing a semi auto restricted black rifle.

You have your opinion, I have mine.
I can respect your position, but don't agree.

I remember learning to shoot .22 rifles there as a boy scout.

Again, please link me to a semi automatic weapon that's emptying a standard size mag in 'seconds'. I'll save you the trouble, i wager you won't find it.

Well from the stats available it’s definitely not for killing people in Canada. I only punch holes in paper but I find it immensely therapeutic. Once a week I usually head to the range and for a few hours forget about everything while I try to better scores or perfect a technique. You should try it, you’d be surprised.

Links are in all my posts. Click the blue text and read. The info you seek is in there.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....I vet **** I post online before posting it. I have no tolerance for those who spread misinformation not based in fact or post claims without citation, so I never do it myself.

fair, odd i didn't see a link when i originally read it. good old selective reading strikes again.

If we could have standard capacity magazines...

5rds in about 3 seconds *mag change*, 5rds *mag change* 5rds *mag change*, etc, etc,

better tape them together for time appreciation.

I keep extra loaded mags in my M1 Abrahms tank right next to my Javelin missles and 20mm mortars.

The squirrels are out of control this year!

sweet, i'm coming over to fire some 120mm heat rounds into Trudeaus back yard.

edit: unless you got a Carl G handy, been awhile since i put some 84mm down range.

I used to think like you PP until a while back I decided to get back into a sport I enjoyed as a kid. I rapidly found out that the looks of the firearm can be very deceiving, I can undo one screw in my 10/22 ruger .22 classic stock rifle and drop the barrel and action into a polymer chassis and hey presto it looks like an “assault” weapon. You might ask why I would do that...so I’d tell you that the modern chassis allows me more adjustment to fit the firearm to me, more control and with a folding stock, easier storage. It’s the same with AR pattern rifles, they could easily have the same action in a traditional wooden stock but why would you when the AR is customizable to the person owning it so easily.

I grew up shooting heavy martini action .22 rifles in traditional wooden stocks. I really enjoy the lighter rifle designs now and things like pistol grips make things easier.

Actually, I’ll do you a deal. If you’re ever this way when this pandemic crap is over I’ll happily take you out to the range so you can perhaps see what people get out of this sport.

C'mon, really? That's like shooting fish in a barrel, pardon the pun.

Even the second video not "cheating" using a bump technique (if you want to get technical) the second video shows you can dump 30 rounds (the "Standard" sized magazine) inside...what....5, maybe 6 seconds?

If you're going to get technical in that a semi auto magazine is limited to 5 in Canada, your argument doesn't get any stronger.

We aren’t allowed 30 round magazines. It’s 5 rounds for most rifles although with a few loopholes you might get 10.
