Well his point is valid even if the mechanism may be slightly different. The Popo could setup outside the gate like they did at TMP and inspect all the vehicles for infractions (or prohibited weapons).

That is where legally you could deny them the right to search or inspect as they would have no outright probable cause to pull you over and initiate a search in the first place.

I thought there was something in the RPAL that gave them that right?

If you consent such a search... You're a f###in' idiot.

There is also no need for anyone to "inspect" anyones guns when they visit the range.
It doesn't happen.

Nope.
Inspections are in regard to place of storage, sale, or residence.

Your car is not a storage facility.

Unless you have committed some other offense that justified a stop, and then in course of questioning they ask if you have any firearms in the vehicle, then they can request to inspect them.

Nope.

applies to your private property, not public. if they believe they have reasonable suspicion they can pull you over and search you anywhere outside of that.

they could ask at the gates of the range if you`re transporting any banned weapons, which you`re under no obligation to answer or admit to of course. now let's say an undercover is inside the range and is keeping tabs. You'd be pulled over the minute you leave, arrested and charged.

Yes precisely.

They can at any time request to inspect your residence but they have to make an appointment.

Key word is request, and it will be a firearms officer. Not a police officer.

Unless police were called to your residence for some other reason then they have 0 cause to request to make an inspection.

Your vehicle is not subject to be searched at random unless they have cause as well.

As you said, if you were dumb enough to bring a prohib weapon out and someone calls it in, then you deserve what you get

'Club/range is private property...
They can't be there "working" unless invited. I know at my range we don't even allow the police or any other gov't agency to use the facilities for training. We get requests from the OPP and CBSA and we turn them down.
On the rarest of occasion where the police show up to investigate (usually a misdirected noise complaint) they don't get further than the gate/parking area. Someone will meet them, they'll have their talk and the police leave.

never said it wasn't, but i understand you posting for clarity.

brings to mind, how 'willing' will ranges be to support police investigations going forward? plus i imagine quite a lot of peace officers are private firearm owners..lol

I'm just pointing out that an undercover officer on site would be trespassing.

'Would depend on what's being investigated.
That said, in my 30 plus years of sport shooting with several years serving as a director of a club/range... I've never seen police seek "cooperation" re. a criminal investigation from a gun club.

Sure, but when it comes to their personally owned firearms they suffer the same as everyone else.

Times are changing!

That was exactly my point, they are owners too.

Yes, but... Not many, at least of those that I know are willing to do ANYTHING that goes against the grain of the gov't.
Dental plans and pensions y'know...

I do not doubt for one second that gun owning police officers will be the first to comply and then sign up for the over time to go around confiscating everyone else's firearms. Why let principles get in the way of a paycheque.

Not saying they have to go against it, just not do the job to their full ability. Union anyways to fall back on.

imo, the Police do plenty that serves their own interests as individuals and a profession. Job sure, but they are people first. Thus the sword which cuts both ways.

and yet...people still go off the reservation. civilians (i'm including police) != soldiers.

What I'm getting at is... Friday I'll be shooting with these guys and Monday they'll be kicking in my door to collect my stuff...

The one or two that "go off the res." or refuse to carry out the orders they are issued won't make any difference.
In this day and age the worst that'll happen is they'll get put behind a desk.
