Just Came Back From A 6-Week Vacation 4,000 km South

Huh?

Where are you getting these stats from? Because a few cursory google searches show a lot of articles from very recently showing a waaaaaaay different picture.

“El Salvador’s homicide rate had dropped sharply from the violent days of the mid-2010s, when 15 or 20 killings a day were routine, but the country continues to have one of the world’s highest homicide rates.

Prior to an uptick this week, El Salvador had been averaging 3.8 homicides a day. Before Bukele took office in 2018, the average was 9.2 killings a day.”

“We have deployed our national police and armed forces to contain the increase in homicides registered over the last 48 hours,” Bukele posted on Facebook alongside videos of soldiers patrolling the streets.

The military deployment follows more than 30 homicides on Tuesday and Wednesday in the impoverished Central American nation of about 6.5 million people.

Sounds….peachy? This was from just a handful of weeks back.

A whole 750km with only 16 hours daylight to work with? Oh noes!
3 homicides a day average is less than the homicide average for Canada. If you take their capital city, San Salvador, it will only have 1 homicide every 6 days, roughly the same as Toronto, but with less armed robberies and car thefts.

By the way, did you get the numbers for cars stolen in the GTA Vs El Salvador? Or armed robberies? Ahhh you didn't.......

Like i said before, watch S6 E27 of Itchyboots.

I think documentary about infamous mr. McAfee covers the whole topic about legal and illegal guns on boats in that area Panama-Belize-Dominican... It's one of those things - we mere mortals should know and avoid stuff that Noraly did (but on the other hand without risks she wouldn't have the audience and income) and if you have a proper guide in the area it's not a big deal.

why are you hyping crimes no one in this city is worried about. Lol

Armed robbery in Toronto, probably have a better chance of getting struck by lightning

Not sure about the media ownership / censorship in South America...but it's pretty easy to hide statistics if you just don't report it.

COVID in Poland? What COVID? We don't test, we don't have COVID.

Silly Canadians.

Another tale to keep everyone's attention by the guy that gave us axel stiks.

El Salvador saw a murder rate of 83 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2021, making it the most dangerous country for this kind of crime worldwide. Its capital, San Salvador, was the 16th most dangerous city for murders, behind several Latin American cities, St. Louis, U.S., and Cape Town, South Africa. For comparison, Canada has never hit 2 per 100,000, our violent American neighbours are 5/100,000.

Overall crime is also amongst the worst in the world. El Salvador's population is about that of the GTA -- imagine what the GTA would be like if we had 34,000 adult gangsters and 60,000 in youth gangs. El Salvador just had a banner year only 1,200 murders among their 6.5M population. So did the GTA, one of the highest years on record with 84 of our 6.5million murdered.

Gang violence recedes and surges based on gov't negotiated truces. This hadn't changed in 20 years -- I remember looking for calm windows to schedule work in El Salvador and Nicaragua when I was in the Telecom biz.

I gave up on that girl after Iran, as an avid traveler on two wheels I think some of the things she does is just so boneheaded. A wing and prayer is all fun till **** hits the fan.
Haven't watched that. What season and episode is it?

Yeah I still believe you are looking at El Salvador very superficially.

Sure there is very good evidence the murder rate has come down due to Bukele policies etc, to something like 50%-60% which is a great number. Google brings us this
&
&

But not when you look at those numbers considering it was 1 of the top murder capitals in the world.

So even with a reduced murder rate of 60-50% it is still way higher then anything in Canada

Even if our rate increased slightly it's no where near the fluctuations seen in El Salvador, and nowhere near the level of burtality and extreme violence. And there might be some level of peace right now but there is long term evidence suggestioning it could be temporary, and who knows what will happen with a change in Gov. But I do hope they get the situation under control.

Anyhow glossing over this stuff is just asking for trouble. Also believing child labour is a good thing also suggests you are out of touch with the realities of the situation down there.

It was season 1 episode 50+ I guess, she had a few. Iranians are one of the most kindest people for sure and **** happens, but I feel like the amount of preparation that she puts into before heading out needs to be much tighter.

If you have't checked out Pedro Mota, please do. He's one of my fav and the Tajikistan Bartang highway one is gold as well as his south american ones.

I will look up Pedro Mota. Have you seen Himalaya Calling?

Don't read articles from 6 years ago, read articles from 2021 or 2022. The murder rate in El Salvador in 2021 had spans of 10 days with NO murders in the entire country.

From now on go to Google and search for shootings in San Salvador as compared to Toronto, and post the tally here daily. When was the last time a 14 year old girl in El Salvador was shot dead? Here in Toronto it was 2 days ago. How many vehicles were stolen in only the GTA last year? Like 3,000, almost 10 a day. How many cars were stolen in El Salvador in the entire country daily? Probably 2.

***EDIT***

Never mind I will do it for you just for TODAY. Searched "Shooting GTA" and "Shooting El Salvador" (most recent).

TORONTO: 1 shooting barely 24 hrs ago,, : One person dead after Markham shooting

EL SALVADOR (the entire country): 2 weeks ago (Jan 17th) was the last shooting, some motorcyclist shot the owner of a tire shop because of bad service on his bike: Dueño de llantería herido de bala en bulevar San Bartolo de Ilopango | Noticias de El Salvador

I rest my case.

Dude, I'm with you. But, you can't compare San Salvador to Toronto. I was there around 2004 timeframe, I'm sure things have changed. But it's not the same. You can find trouble very easily in Central America. I was in Costa Rica few years ago, and as nice and friendly things are, you're not going to just walk around at night in San Juan or any decently populated place without worry. I can and did walk around in Driftwood, which is the street behind Jane n Finch without too much of a worry.

Toronto is safe and fair, but boring. San Salvador is probably safer than before but not boring at all. There is life there cause everyone is on the street with a smile. They don't run to their bedroom communities and live a shuttered life chasing materials for the most part there. Also, there is a sense of community mostly due to the overall culture and belief system. They still haven't replaced God with materials yet.

I think you need to do better research...

Here is one from El Mundo BTW celebrating 54 years of news reporting in El Salvador

Post on Feb 2, 2022, basically states there was 82 murders in January. It's going in the right direction, but that is almost the entire amount of murders in 1 month for all of 2020 in Toronto.

There is a nice info graphic show the amount of deaths per day in January. No Spanish required!

Here's another source from La Prensa, apparently been around since 1915, posted Today!

2 youth group works where basically forced, or abducted by gang members and murdered and their bodies were dismember
Reported missing Jan 17th and body parts recovered around Jan 19th. Victims didn't have connections to gangs.
Stuff like this doesn't happen in Toronto

Here is another good one La Prensa posted yesterday!

Basically a what they call a detached body, probably decapitated, but some form of dismemberment.

Also La Prensa also posted Today!

Criminals attack someone Wednesday night. They survived

February doesn't look like it's off to a great start.

Peg...maybe you should change your search criteria to 'murders'.

"Searched "Shooting GTA" and "Shooting El Salvador" (most recent)."

Seems you may be missing a few (see above)
