Jevco motorcycle rates going up ?!

Look into Desjardins for a quote too. Or a broker. A lot of brokers are having a difficult time with Intact as there are several changes that happen on a regular basis with the portfolio purchase of Jevco to Intact.

Some brokers have a good relationship with Intact and can work with Intact or shop the business somewhere else.

Not looking good with TD; they wanted $902. Christ alive, you'd think I was riding a crotch rocket.

Wow, only that for a Monster? I don't get it, my bike has a lower performance and a smaller engine. I wonder if the age of my bike is factor? Or maybe you're older than me (I'm 34)?

Even worse with Desjardins. They wanted $941. Well, there's still a few other folks on the list. Have to wait 'till this afternoon before John R. Duffy can get me an update to see if there's anything they can do on their end. Got a few friends with State Farm up in Newmarket, so I'm going to try them too. Any other suggestions are welcome!

Insurance is a weird game... This has been my experience this year:
Last year with Echelon: $1177 "Next year, your rates should drop to ~$800 (best price I found at the time)
Renewal: $1093 "Yeah, no." "Sorry, our rates going up 03/17, you renew 03/21"
After some calling around...
(Liability only)
Kingsway/McDonald: $593 "OMG I'll take it!" - next day, "Sorry we don't insure 20+ year old bikes"
Primmum: $932
Jevco/Intact through Safeway insurance: $682

Called Cornerstone, got quoted at $1722 "No thanks, found better with Jevco/Intactorwhateveritisnow!"
Guy tells me he quoted me with the same company... Dafuuuuu?
So Safeway lady doesn't call me back after a few days and taking all my information for abstract/insurance check, I call back and she 'forgot' and everything had gone through and 'looks like the price she quoted me good to go.'
Going in or faxing Monday - I'll believe it when it's in my hand.

Hm, well, TD and Desjardins didn't reject me out of hand anyway.

The John Duffy folks got back to me and I got some answers as to why this happened though.

My renewal is in April, on the 27th. What happened is that Jevco put in a request for a renewal last year in May, after I'd already got my policy. Then Intact put in a request for an increase this April. The regulator approved both, so I got a double increase.

Man, at this point I'd even take the same rate at a different company, just to flip Intact the bird.

Got to try Echelon, Primmum, State Farm, and some other dorks on Monday, we'll see how that goes

My increase is $400. What a joke.Daylight robbery. Intact can go "F" themselves. No change to anything on the policy.

It's a long shot (you don't have to tell me twice about government doing f---all on something this small), but I wonder if there's a valid regulator complaint in here somewhere? I mean the whole point of them having to go to the regulator to request increases is that the damn rates are regulated. I wonder if this might be some sort of double-dipping since they're getting more of a regulated increase than was given to any one company?

Like I said, it's a long shot, but I can't help wondering if it is in fact a violation.

Very good point.
Correct me if I am wrong. Does the Government not have their fingers in the jar as they get a cut of the percentage as a tax is included? Either way, when did they ever care about us? They live in an entirely different World to us.

Count me as another fella gettin' boned too. '86 BMW K75, clean record, 34 years old, Full M license for several years now and been riding for about 6 years. Last spring Echelon bumped my rate from about $600 to $800, so I cancelled with Echelon and switched to Jevco though John R. Duffy. So much for that! Same damn thing: last year the Jevco was $638, this year they're bumping it to $836! Time to start looking again! I bank with TD, so I'm probably going to try and call them, but does anybody know if they touch bikes over 25 years old? I know some insurers won't and I'm not going to waste my time if they're one of those.

Give Medha (Allstate) a call 416 579 0080. can insure upto 1981. Great rates for riders over 30. Jevco/Intact sent me a registered letter this year pretty much telling me, a loyal customer, to go ****** myself come renewal because my BMW was reclassified as a suicide machine. Medha was referred to me by fellow forum members. She gave me a better rate than Jevco was. Tell her Mauro sent you.;)

That sounds good to me, Mauro. I'll make that my first try on Monday. Thanks!

All rate adjustments must be reviewed and approved by the government. From my understanding, Jevco policeis were required to be paid in full within 151 days of being issued and if cancelled anything within their effective date, they kept the entire premium. So, they had a revenue advantage over some other companies that allow monthly payments such as Intact.

I can say that Intact is losing a lot of good long time customers with rate increases to TD. I only mentioned Desjardins as some have reported decent quotes some time ago but, maybe they aren't competitive right now. I'm not sure.

Good luck folks!!!!

Yeah, Jevco demanded that all payments be made in the first six months of the policy. Things was, it was low enough that I didn't mind in the least.

Hahaha, you think this shiz is funny. Look at the email i just got from my broker lol. Jevco's a joke! Apparantly they also black listed the kawi ex400 and 650 as well. "Hi Mike, We have been notified by Intact Insurance (formerly Jevco) that they will not be renewing your motorcycle insurance policy this year as your motorcycle 2011 Yamaha FZ6R has been added to their prohibited list. Please contact me to discuss other arrangements. Thanks,"

Well, everything was going pear-shaped and I didn't think I was going to get anywhere. Most places wanted $850 - $1000. I called Mehda and she was able to offer $740, but Allstate also wanted to impose a $250 penalty for not bringing over any other insurance (A penalty? What a terrible way to put it. Why not describe it a bundle discount the way SF does?). But then I called RBC of all places and they quoted me $632! Not going to jump until I'm actually signed with that rate, but damn that'll be good if it's true! Fingers crossed...

AH WTF. Last year I was quoted under $800 on my F2. Part of the decision to get this old bike was the awesome insurance rate. I called them to put it on and they said $1500+. What a load of crap. I could have the latest 1000SS for $100 more with state farm.

What happened to kanetix? The website looks different and I cant even get a motorcycle quote. Says no brokers offer any.

Are there any agents that give a quote to all the ins companies? SF seems to have separate agents from Intact and MM(TD).

Kanetix has a motorcycle option under car insurance, but its ****ing retaded, I get different rates day to day...
I don't know what to believe, all I can do is sit around and wait til my renewal in June and hope its half decent and that my abstract isn't pulled up. Given that I'll be 23 this year I don't see how it can just increase given that I started at the bottom of the ladder and I'm getting older and acquiring more experience...but who knows what the **** these guys do, I just got to live with it...If my abstract is pulled its off to Facility for me.

Kanetix used to give me jevco quotes for my F2. Now it won't even do motorcycles older than 96.
