It's Official!

I bought a 250 when i started cause everyone said, "Start with a 250". Six weeks later the 250 was gone and I had a 600. The 250 just felt a bit small and underpowered for me. I wasn't having as much fun. So I moved up to the 600. Been enjoying that a lot more. But "respecting" the power of it.

I also took all your advice and bought a gear set worth 500 dollars, jacket and pants, and a 350 dollar HJC Helmet. Thanks for all your advice guys! Thought the 850 dollars would be a good investment as my life is at stake!

good for you! i'm glad that you got yourself some nice gear and a good helmet!:D

enjoy your bike and ride safe!

OMG you got a 600 for a first bike?

OP the truth is most people are jealous cause they're barely able to afford their 125s and 250s along with insurance.
Everyone thinks that they are the best rider in the world and anyone else will die on a 600.

I too started on a 600 and a decade later im still here, and all the ******s on this site close your ears for this one, i now ride a 1000CC! OMG, i know i know im already dead

I learned on a 636 and a 954RR...I too am still here, but I still wouldn't recommend either as a good first bike. Especially a brand new one. I banged the hell out of both my first bike and car and I'm glad I listened to others' advice about not buying new. I fully intended on getting a 636 of my own but after riding a FZR400 I pretty quickly noticed that even with experience on a big bike, the smaller ones are "better" for a newer rider. I can ride the **** out of a 250R and go balls out without worrying vs a 636 the same way I can drive my Lancer to the redline and stay in control vs the Evo.

I disagree that a 250 or 125 are the ONLY starter bikes, but I see absolutely no way a brand new SS is a good idea.

As far as it being jealousy I sincerely doubt that. You can pick up older SS or SBK for the same or less than a newer 250R. Insurance may be a concern but the OP got under his parents' policy so that has nothing to do with anything really. I take pride in the fact I pay for my own bike and insurance even though I COULD go under my mom's policy, but that is neither here nor there.

There is no such thing as "starter bikes". You only crash when you get cocky or distracted. I know many riders who started on a 600 SS and they did just fine.

This is a ravaging conversation that has never taken place in this forum

Congrats on the new bike...although I'm a bit late lol........ok updates, how was the bike? Did you spank it yet? Don't lie you've red lined that SOB....has it been dropped? OP you still around?

He was around awhile ago asking about a speeding ticket he got but luckily they didn't catch the insurance fraud ;)

must be nice to have your parents pay for everything

Some kids have all the luck in the world.
I'd be lucky if i could get my dad to approve my motorcycle

yeah let him be ...who cares he's got a '12 gixxer 600 and his parents paid for it all..
if I ever have any kids I'd give them anything they desire.. it's just way of life some people love their children too much
for the record, he is not the first kid to start on a 600cc SS neither he will be last.

fully aware hes not the first and he wont be the last , i will love my kids enough to teach them responsibilities and teach them that everything in life isnt just handed to them and they have to work to get nice **** in life
