Is this an example of bullying?

Gah, a bunch of fat chicks on a facebook pages just found that youtube video and now they're all praising her and saying it should be posted up every day for October and then every week forever 'cause it's so good. That the woman is their hero for standing up etc. gah. Why can't they just go to the gym and then just feel good about themselves instead of getting acceptance from another unhealthy person?

because its easier to be fat and lazy than to do something about it. why do you think they are praising her. its easier for the lazy.

fat is the new fit.

If you're standing at 5'4" anything under 200lbs is underfed to the point of malnutrition

Lol...how perceptions change...obese is obviously bad but some women classed as "fat" would have been classed as beautiful not that long ago and even further back you only have to look at classic paintings to see how attitudes have changed. As for feeling good and going to the gym.....no doubt it does make some feel good but I'm not sure mimicking a hamster running on a ****ing wheel is a good measure of self worth at all.

Sorry, obese/very over weight. I'm okay with people with extra cushion for the pushin', heck I have love handles too and in the modeling world I am considered plus size (12). I have no problem with people that have fat, so long as they're nice people

Well you gotta think about the zombie apocalypse too, theyll be more meat for zombies to feed on since they wont run as fast and will give people in a better shape to have a headstart!

Yeah they did that in walking dead, was fabulously douchey :D
Ah, haven't watched it so wouldn't know.

Whatever works. If it's a life and death situation anything goes.

Some good points. True, that by today's standards someone like Marilyn Monroe would be seen as kinda "chunky". And we do currently have some warped ideas as to what constitutes as "fit" when it comes to women, i.e. emaciated (yet most men when asked will admit they'd prefer their women with some curves - I wonder why advertisers push these images on us then).

But I think most people in this thread are talking about obesity. And there is plenty of that around in our society today.

Not to go too far off in a side-rant, but in terms of people going to the gym and running like a hamster on a cardio machine because they think this is what "fit" people do - yeah, that's not always the right answer. People resolve to finally lose weight (usually around New Years) and sign up for a gym membership. They run around on a cardio machine for a while, maybe pick up a few 2lb weights, and then eventually lose interest. Why? Because they're not choosing an activity that they actually ENJOY doing.

Don't get me wrong - there are some people who love the typical gym environment and make it a very real lifestyle habit. But I'm sure that people would have a lot more success if they sought out and tried something that they might actually enjoy. Taking up a sport, martial arts, cycling or something as simple as gardening or taking the dog for long walks. If it's something you are interested in you're more likely to stick with it, and the physical benefits are like a bonus.

The trouble is that once a person gains weight exercise becomes more difficult. If a person carries the weight too long they get joint problems and exercising becomes painfull. It's easier to stay slim than get slim. Add to this the negative encouragement and the only enjoyment the person gets is from eating.

Almost all diets work for the same reason, they make you think about what you're eating. They fail because they become boring.

Blah blah blah.

I have the world's slowest metabolism. I used to be 255lbs, I got down to 180lbs but am back up to 195lbs right now. I put some back on just from enjoying summer food and being a little less active due to various injuries over the summer. Anyhow, after the race season is over I'll get back in the pool and the gym. My target is 175lbs by May.

If I can do it, anyone can. The hardest part was finally making the decision that it HAD TO change. Everything after that was easy.

I have no sympathy for whiny fat people that can't stick to it.

I don't doubt that it's hard. Of course a total and permanent lifestyle change is difficult.

The diet/fitness industry makes BILLIONS of dollars telling overweight people that they have the quick & easy solution. As long as people don't want to put in the hard work, they will fail.

My point being though, is that people will be more likely to stick to an activity that they will enjoy and can incorporate into their lifestyle, rather than go to a typical gym and not really be interested in or understand what exactly it is that they're doing. That goes for everyone - not just overweight people.
