Is this an example of bullying?

She's not the one who made the email public. When it became public, she's not responsible for it becoming a popular topic of discussion. When it did, she alone wouldn't choose to broadcast the story. And when it was broadcast, she never identified the guy. This wasn't playground politics, it was never about her or him.

It was about the issue of the mistreatment of obese people in general, and it's relationship to bullying. In the process she erred in calling the guy a bully.

Given that it was her husband that made it public, I think we can assume she OKed it.

I'm fairly intolerant of obese people. I just don't get how you can live like that and I get really ****** off when I, or the general public have to make concessions for them because they are so fat. A lot of obese people try act like they don't have a choice but to be fat, which simply isn't the case and then they act like the rest of the world is supposed to be sympathetic to their plight. So I totally get where this "bully" is coming from. I think the guy was either being a complete smart a** or he is ridiculously ignorant by thinking she is going to put down the kitkat's after reading his email.

Saying she is upset for "the children" is complete ******** and a cop out in my opinion. She's just ****** someone called her fat. Kids get bullied all the time. Part of growing up is learning how to handle it. I hope she doesn't raise her kids to think life is fair and kind because she would be setting them up for disappointment. If my kid became obese, which wouldn't happen, I would straight up tell them they are going to be bullied, picked on and stared at for being fat and it will suck, so good luck with that. My kids saw a midget when we were at the hospital the other day and my youngest stopped dead in his tracks turned and walked right over to him pointing and asked me how that kid had grown a giant beard. My kid wasn't being a bully and I am sure the midget has had to come to terms with that kind of thing. This chick lives in a fantasy land.

Obesity is probably more misunderstood than drug addiction, smoking or alcoholism. With enough help or will power you can stop those completely and never touch them again. With food one has to learn to control.

About every second week some doctor is on TV pushing his theory on the obesity epidemic (And selling his book). It's the chemicals in our system, the hormones in the food, stress factors, the work overload, fast food advertizing, cheap food, convenient food, preservatives, additives, sedentary lifestyle, shift work, depression, and in many cases, ignorance.

The problem is far more complex than other addictions or habits because no one industry can be blamed.

Re the original TV tiff, if obesity is a medical condition then would it not be treated like any other disease? One doesn't critisize a blind person so following that logic obesity becomes a human rights issue and the emailed comments an attack on those rights.

Ignoring legalities, it seems like the guy was offended that the woman didn't meet his standards for appearance. If her appearance wasn't part of her job it's none of his business. Get a life buddy. Fat people hear about it all the time so maybe this was her tipping point. Most people would have chucked the email or told the guy to fornicate elsewhere.

Nothing will change. Pass the popcorn (Air popped, no salt or butter)

I agree that her weight is none of buddyboy's business. The anchor decided to blow it out of proportion and call, what otherwise is a pretty polite and civil e-mail "bullying". As someone who's experienced the "joys" of actual bullying, I see a huge difference between that e-mail and what passes for "bullying" in the eyes of somebody with a brain.

Pointing out someone's unhealthy choices in a constructive way is now a form of bullying. I guess drug addicts could use this justification as well.

nope doesn't sound like bullying. but does sound like a cow getting ready to charge.

$700,000 Vacation fund raiser?

+100 "I will find you and yet you"

What is the statute of limitations on bullying? Too late to collect on jr. high? I need a tan top up.

If you're gonna be on TV or somewhat famous, then learn to grow some thicker skin. People say mean things all the time...you just hear it more when you're famous. I don't think celebrities are overpaid because with the money comes a very high price (the loss of privacy) and being held to a higher standard in the public eye.

With that said, she has every right to play the victim even if I disagree with it. Some people have other priorities and sometimes life gets in the way...so I don't think it's my place to say who should or shouldn't be working out. I think if she hated being fat enough, she'd find a way to fix it. Until that happens, she can't blame someone for calling fat and they can't blame her for playing the victim.

ALSO, for all we know, the producers just wanted to capitalize on the moment. If that's the case, she doesn't really have a choice but to do it...

With local news becoming very redundant (we can go to the Internet 24/7 instead of waiting until 6:00), this is what I believe most likely happened.

It's funny how people see an overweight person and automatically think of them as being fat and lazy. There's such a thing as skinny fat too. My issue is with the lazy part of anyones lifestyle. Sure I may be about 20 lbs overweight, but I can and will chase my kids around the block playing, or ride my bike to work, or ride some single track and have tp pick up my 400 lb bike a few times, lol. Just because you have a few extra pounds doesn't mean you have sit there and do nothing.

When people refer to "fat" people they're not talking about10-20lbs overweight. They're talking Obese, as in 50+lbs of excess fat that shouldn't be there.
People that look like they'll pop like a balloon if you poke them with a needle or they drink another 2L of carbonated soda.
If you are only 20lbs overweight, you don't look like that (unless you're a midget.)
They're also the ones people refer to as lazy (and in most cases, it's true.)

People don't look at someone skinnyfat and say "WOW! That guy must be so lazy."

Also, my favorite thing fat people do is spout the ******** HEALTHY AT EVERY SIZE. There have been many, many, many medical studies proving that obesity is UNHEALTHY, and in fact very dangerous. Yet they ignore this real science for their psuedo-science ******** myths people sitting in their mothers basement make up just so they can feel better about themselves.

On the bright side, by the time they're 40 they'll either have changed their way of life, or they'll have died of a heart attack. Then I can just ignore the next generation of kids who start spouting the same thing, and yell at them to get off of my lawn.
Now, don't get me wrong. I don't hate fat people, I have nothing against them. I myself could stand to lose a few more lbs; I just don't like it when people lie to themselves, and the rest of the world to try and feel better about themselves.
Mostly because that's all they do. You can't do anything, talk about anything, look at anything, think of anything, without them having to bring up some ******** "fact", or make up some excuse as to why they're stuffing their face with 5 chocolate cake at once. Just shut up and eat you're damn cake!

The ones that know how to have a good time, and have accepted their bodies and are able to see that no one really gives a crap that they're fat; those are the ones worth keeping around.

reminds me of when my daughter had a 300lb female gym teacher,I went to see the principle about it and was told he cannot discriminate between any of the school staff, wtf is that teaching our kids?

YOU ARE ALL MISSING THE REAL ISSUE! ......

.... Would you hit it?..

NOw thats a different ball game.

I'd hit it but does that mean I'll call next day?

No

Most riders I see are the road are fat, not to mention squiding, so their tshirts wafe into the air while their untanned love handles are jiggling in the wind...

You don't see me complaining.

Im sure certain programs like p90, p90x, body pump, biggest loser etc etc has changed tons of lives.

its a matter of waking up and deciding to change your life around.

Her response simply should have been:

Thank you for your email but I actually attract a "large" viewership because of my weight. The majority of viewers can relate to me because I actually represent the majority of Americans.

But let's be real, now that it's gone viral - she will probably have Dr. Oz, weight watchers, Jenny Craig and the likes all begging her to be a sponsor, offering to help her in exchange for her promotion of their programs. Maybe she'll launch a lose weight campaign and ask her "obese" viewers to join her. She may even be asked to star in the next line up of the biggest loser. It's all so predictable.
