Is this an example of bullying?

Pointing out someone's unhealthy choices in a constructive way is now a form of bullying. I guess drug addicts could use this justification as well.

Naw, she is a whiner. It's an e-mail, get over it.

But being made to see your face is hurtful of my eyes. Your face is bullying my eyes!

.................I don't think the letter was bullying at all. There was no name-calling. Of course she didn't like the letter because she is fat and isn't happy with it. This is different than bullying. It was a one off letter sent in private. Replace defending her being overweight with being a chainsmoker on national television, watch the clip again, and see how ridiculous she sounds.

After reading the email she was sent, I have to say, that was not bullying! Seems like the author of the letter was simply a concerned citizen and has a valid point — she is a public figure, and as such, should think about promoting good health. Which involves maintaining a healthy weight. There was nothing crude or insulting in the email at all.

Now, calling Rob Ford His Lardship was insulting. Funny as hell, though! Maybe that newscaster needs to see what a real insult is.

I don't know if I really buy into the idea that people on TV need to "promote" health by being a certain weight, I mean she's not hosting a healthy eating or fitness show. But I do think when you're a public figure you open yourself up to public opinion and criticism. When people see you on TV they're going to judge your appearance to a certain extent, especially if they see physical changes.

Being overweight is unhealthy and there's nothing wrong with saying that. The letter doesn't sound like it was written with malicious intent or used abusive language, so this to me doesn't sound like bullying.

Obesity is an epidemic that is straining our health care system and is increasingly affecting our kids. We should be able to talk about it without people's feelings get hurt.

It's a good thing she's not part of GTAM because she won't last a day.

Biotch please....

lol there are bullies and there are pu$$ies.

I'm pretty sure there was at least some malicious intent behind that e-mail because it was completely uncalled for. But it was far from anything even resembling bullying.

Bullying is what GTAM did to Sushi after seeing his Avatar picture.

You can tell from this woman's voice she was so happy that everyone got around her and told this guy off. She goes out of her way to say he's a *********. His comments may not have been right, but she took pleasure in blowing it up and making it all about her being the victim etc... She definitely tried to play the I'm a girl so I'm 10x more sensitive about my weight etc...

Obesity isn't her problem. Attention whoring is.

God forbid she got caught enjoying other "unhealthy choices", like smoking a joint. She would have been grilled. Like the "Protect Our Children PLEASE Read" thread shows, we are open minded to accept what we are told to accept.

The only sensible post so far.

Calling the guy a bully was an abuse of the term IMO. He was wrong headed in his understanding of obesity as a mere lifestyle choice, and of a reporter's responsibility to be a model in every way, but he wasn't bullying. The only connection to bullying was in the way the email talked about obesity as if it were a character flaw. This misconception is what spurs the bullying.

So other than calling the guy a bully, I thought her response was exactly right from the start. She laughed it off at first, her coworkers made it into an issue, and then she spoke out about it. As usual the GTAM crowd are responding without forethought. Her error was much less severe than the error of the guy who wrote that email, and he deserved to be corrected.

I'm fairly intolerant of obese people. I just don't get how you can live like that and I get really ****** off when I, or the general public have to make concessions for them because they are so fat. A lot of obese people try act like they don't have a choice but to be fat, which simply isn't the case and then they act like the rest of the world is supposed to be sympathetic to their plight. So I totally get where this "bully" is coming from. I think the guy was either being a complete smart a** or he is ridiculously ignorant by thinking she is going to put down the kitkat's after reading his email.

Saying she is upset for "the children" is complete ******** and a cop out in my opinion. She's just ****** someone called her fat. Kids get bullied all the time. Part of growing up is learning how to handle it. I hope she doesn't raise her kids to think life is fair and kind because she would be setting them up for disappointment. If my kid became obese, which wouldn't happen, I would straight up tell them they are going to be bullied, picked on and stared at for being fat and it will suck, so good luck with that. My kids saw a midget when we were at the hospital the other day and my youngest stopped dead in his tracks turned and walked right over to him pointing and asked me how that kid had grown a giant beard. My kid wasn't being a bully and I am sure the midget has had to come to terms with that kind of thing. This chick lives in a fantasy land.

I hope you or your kid get really fat one day lol

People need to live their own lives and stop worrying about what others are doing. Smoke if you want, drink if you want, be fat if you want. it doesn't affect me and we make choices in life and deal with the consequences.

People who care about how others live their lives have nothing going on in their lives

and that woman should have just deleted the email and called it a day. same with her co-workers

The issue here is truth speech is turning to hate speech for those that don't like to hear the truth.

Really? Her error is just as severe as everyone here is making it out to be and more. Let's say for the moment the guy who emailed her was being genuine. She took a private email, put it on tv and bashed the guy so that she could garner sympathy and attention. The guy who wrote that email can't exactly rebuttal on the same scale and so it's really she who is the bully here. Using her tv personality to settle a personal score. She was just told that she should set a better example for children so she decides to regress into a child herself (although "regress" assumes she had an adult mind to begin with).

If the email guy was just being malicious then it's still just as bad except the dude wouldn't deserve any sympathy either. And he won.

She's not the one who made the email public. When it became public, she's not responsible for it becoming a popular topic of discussion. When it did, she alone wouldn't choose to broadcast the story. And when it was broadcast, she never identified the guy. This wasn't playground politics, it was never about her or him.

It was about the issue of the mistreatment of obese people in general, and it's relationship to bullying. In the process she erred in calling the guy a bully.
