Is no ABS a deal breaker on a first bike?

Nah lol, people can stop commenting if they want lol. I think I’m gonna look at a cb 300 f and rest ride it if he will let me and then decide
Get him to ride it if you can, as well.

It would be good to see how someone who's ridden it for a while rides, and better if you can contrast that with your self.

Could the ABS breaking system take away from your experience on winding roads and twisties?

Im in the market for a YZF R3, there are two options here as well, one with and without.

the only time people complain about intrusive ABS systems is if they're in racing competition, you shouldnt be doing anywhere near those speeds on the street, so no

I was looking at the R3s too but if I want abs I’m gonna have to buy new or newer and it’s my first bike which I may drop etc plus depreciation so I’m tryna spend under 4K. Willing to spend around 4-4.4K ish but no older R3s which are in that price have abs for me. Think I might end up going with the Cb 300f

Here’s one or two…

Even if they’re above your range just offer your price. I did that before. Guy wanted $6500…I offered 5000…he told me to eff off. I said no problem and got the bike for 5k anyway. It was for the Rebel I had.

Messaged the first ad but most are a lot more. Messaged about the black one a week ago actually but he never responded. I don’t really care for the fluorescent wheels of the second one. Also a lot are being sold without safety and I’m trying to find one with just because I don’t know many motorcycle mechanics also I don’t know how much I’m gonna have to spend to get it done if it needs a lot. I’m going to see the cb 300f this Friday as well

Bikes and everything else related to unnecessary fun items are insanely overpriced right now. Be patient and politely offer what you think is fair and you might get something worthwhile.

I have purchased recently and paid full asking for a bike that IMO was worth it. I also sold recently and politely told a few people to kick rocks as they offered far too little.

Had my first ABS experience ever this weekend, pissing rain and a 5the wheeler suddenly realized he needed to turn left when approaching 35 on 48. Experience saved me, ABS let me know it was there to help.

Op,

Aged 21 and M2. How many years riding two wheels?

How many butt pucker moments have you experienced in your driving and riding experience?

Reality is when faced with your life flashing before your eyes, you’ll grab for as much brake as possible to prevent hitting something and maybe even mash the rear brake for a skid if you haven’t flipped over the bars.

That’s why it’s encouraged to ride with proper riding gear and get the best bike your budget will allow.

If one of my kids was looking to ride, I’d look for a bike with ABS. But it’s not the end all be all.

And I wouldn’t look for the most powerful machine out there. If it’s good enough for back roads, that’s all you need.

It’s often said it’s more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. And the reality is you’ll improve your skills on a slow bike than trying to manage a bike beyond your capabilities.

There are many riders with small displacement bikes they ride often and ride them hard and smile the whole time.

So don’t let ego get in the way.

If the difference in a starter bike with abs is $500 more than a same model bike without, I’d grab the abs bike.

IMO of course.

Thanks. And I have experience dirt biking not riding on the road. I’m pretty sure I’m gonna look at a bike with abs now. I’m going to look at the cb 300f this Friday however I like the sporty look for the ninja 300 better. I have a question I’m not sure if anyone knows, when I register a car in Ontario I have to pay the book price. Is there a book price for motorcycles? Or do I just pay what the bill of sale says (aka write a lower amount) thanks

Only once have I ever heard of a book value for motorcycles in ontario. It was a 2021. Not sure if that is a policy change or a fluke. You pay tax on the sale price you write on the uvip. Occasionally the seller gets a letter that asks for the sale price, if they put that in the garbage there are no repercussions (they cant prove the seller got the letter).

Have never heard of 'book price' for a motorcycle. Last I registered my most recent bike they went by the price on the UVIP sales section.

Unless @GreyGhost saw something different, it goes by the price on the UVIP...no book. Just make sure you and the seller agree on the 'price'.

Just one post on gtam that had a book price. My friend at SO has never seen that before. I still dont know if that was a one off or a policy change. Govt tells SO nothing. They hear of policy changes through the news. Ridiculous.

Just put my new to me bike on the road a couple months ago. I claimed a price at SO and the gentleman working there cut it in half and only taxed me on that.

The amount that an SO office gets is embarrassing. Maybe if they paid them better they wouldn't screw the govt out of revenue. Most transactions pay $1 to $3. This k about how long you are talking to the person and all the overhead, etc and the owners are walking a very fine line. That is why they are normally beat up and dingy, there really is no money for improvements.
