Is Kijiji a safe place to sell goods any longer?

Meet somewhere without the item and email a pic of them to someone that knows your intentions first. nothing personal and if they take it that way move on to the next. it sucks people have to resort to such measures but thats besides the point keep yourself safe theres a lot of ****** bags stalking the streets and the net.

I've had items up for sale or interest in buying and as soon as a potential buyer/seller insists on meeting somewhere to make the transaction for what ever reason dump that one. WTF would anyone wana meet somewhere when they live right in the same city. Easy cause theyre out to jack someones ****. Lazy non working hair on toilet seat of life mofos. had to rant a little lol

Wow talk about paranoia. If you told me you'd be taking a pic and emailing it I'd told you to **** off. Look at it on the flip side. Some unknown dude tells you that and YOUR alarm bells start going off.

In the end we hear about that one outlier story about the theft, death etc. nobody comes and posts about the normal transactions that happen. I've done hundreds and never had an issue.

I think its more sensible than paranoia if I'm carrying a big chunk of cash on me and some crack head wants it. Ok maybe its a little extreme, odds are low. But that dude that got killed for his truck kinda makes you wonder if you could be next. At least theyre gona know who killed ya. Or it will make them think twice about taking you out right?

I've done lots of buying and selling myself no worries and I'm still here to type about it. But it only takes one bad one

Especially since those guys tried this on someone else, and they found an airplane hangar full of stolen stuff.
His alleged killer is being investigated for a few other dead and missing people as well.

I'm trying to sell a dirt bike (2009 Honda CRF230, $3500) right now on kijiji and got this request for more info:

Thanks for your reply,i just wanted to make sure all bases are covered !I'm satisfied with the condition but how long have you owned it?? and what's your lowest price for it. I love a bargain, so i would like to get it as soon as i can.I would be able to make payment through paypal, i find it the easiest way to use my credit card safely and is a safe and reliable method of payment... Let me know your price for it .I hope to hear from you soon, and i will make all transportation preparations for the it to be transported

This is a scam. If I were to sell it to him via PayPal, it may be a hacked account and I'd be sol, or he would send someone else to pick it up. (My italics in his reply) I'd write up a bill of sale for both of us, but since its not the Paypal buyer, he can claim not to have received possession of the bike, and I'd be sol because PayPal would refund his money (and he and his accomplice would have the bike.)

Be careful!

I sold a motorcycle back in June, SAME GUY emailed me the EXACT same thing. Seems like he's very persistent. I told him nothing but cash and in person, he said he'll send an agent to pick up the bike and he'll only pay by paypal and he was in the Navy and is overseas and cant do anything about giving cash and what not. He had an excuse for everything but i had an answer for everything...lol by the end of it i just told him to **** off.

exactly ive sold and bought plenty of items of kijiji and never had any problems as long as ur smart about it and don't get tricked into this stupid paypal stuff its fine

Whats the statistical odd of you being jacked for something off Kijiji? I can tell you right now you have better chance of winning the lotto, getting hit by lighting etc. I mean come on! We knowingly risk our lives every time we throw our leg over a bike and statistically getting killed or seriously injured is a LOT higher than being robbed on kijiji.

Its the exact same line of thinking for idiots that play lotto. "See, that dude in Hamilton just won!!!!" Tax on idiots who are bad at math.

Kijiji and CL are good, just don't be naive.

I purchased my 07ST1300 off Kijiji for about 5000 under market value back a few years ago...his phone number gave me an answering machine but reverse number look up told me it had been in use for awhile...

Best deal I ever made...under 1000km and well under market value... he couldn't ride due to health issues...

I always use the local Tim Hortons to meet and show whether I am selling OR buying. Neutral ground, lots of witnesses. They don't agree, it's a scam.

Simple as that.

I wouldn't say that. Maybe getting hurt on the bike or in a car is higher, but lightning snd einning the lotto?

Cmon man.

i've never posted my real address.. just an area of which is close to me..roll with a group to the meet location which is heavily trafficed with people...

stay strapped..

Stay strapped?.....

With a knife?

You know you can't legally carry at all in Canada.

IF you have a pickup I believe it's legal to carry a rifle in the cabin. Have a friend, literally, sit shotgun.

I have had great transactions over Kijiji..just use your discretion like everyone says.

I also never meet at my own house. If they don't like the sale for whatever reason (bought the wrong model, broke it and want a refund. etc.) they can take it out on my house/property. I've even met up with someone and paid via EFT, he found the nearest wi-fi- spot and checked his email and deposited it and I drove off with the item.

Knives yes, firearms no.

firearms NO..

knives in a bad case..

otherwise 2 black belts, brace knuckles

and a set of nunchucks..

thats being strapped enough.

but yes the odds are very slim of being jacked..non the less you need to be prepared.. now days you can no longer go on trust

ive had great experiences on kijiji.ca and ive had a few not so good but more greater then anything else .. and i can say its a safe source. just never use your home as a meet point and always have a friend or 2 with you.

o and if you got a dog.. bring him/her along always a great deterrent

it is not legal for you to carry a firearm in the cabin..

while in transport the firearm must be locked up, ammunition locked up in a seperate case. and in the back of the vehicle.

Feel free to carry a knife if you think that's smart... but I think getting mugged and possibly beaten is better than getting shot 9 times by cops and then getting zapped to boot.

Just use your head, if it smells or seems fishy, don't get involved. Just as the buyer has a right to offer you what they want, you have a right to refuse to sell to whomever you don't like. If someone proposes a place or time that you are not comfortable with offer an alternative you do prefer or else just move on.

Nooope....Where are you getting your BS from? Why do people insist on talking out of their ***?

Non restricted firearms have to be unloaded and out of sight, aka, no brandishing...thats it.

restricted have to be trigger locked and in a case, but then again, CFO wont issue you an Authorization To Transport to a kijiji meet in the first place so thats a moot point.

Ammo has no restriction on transportation other than not loaded in a firearm. So if you have a side saddle with shotgun shells in, legal, if you have loaded mags sitting next to the firearm, legal.
