seems flight costs depend on traffic, desirability and "whos paying" . I can fly to Miami from TO for half the cost of getting to Ft Mac. same flight times . There is never a cheap flight into Pheonix. We need to get to Newfoundland in July, its cheaper to buy a ticket to London and ask about a parachute option.
I need to get into Atlanta next month, it appears cheaper to buy a ticket to Clearwater Fla. that has a 3hr layover , in Atlanta , and just leave the airport in Atlanta.
I hate travel on my dime.....
Many people do that game where they skip the second leg of the flight. Check the fine print. Some airlines have started to impose punitive fees if you do that.

Sorry but that is not true, they can balance the luggage on the plane itself and no way to know where you end up putting the carry-on once you are on the plane.
the 50lb weight limit is due to safe lifting limits. luggage is still manually handled at some point and safe lifting limits is generally set as 50lbs.
look at any physical demands limits on job postings or manual material handling guides.

That's surprising...as I can recall 3 times in my life when I was on a basically empty plane and the flight attendants literally asked some people to move to the back for weight distribution purposes.

I think the confusion is related to moving weight from checked to carry-on vs moving people around on plane. Weight and balance is critical for a plane but the joke was probably more related to health and safety.

I know nothing about small aircraft, our friend has taken his twin comanche (whatever that is) to FLA for the winter. he's not a fan of coldweather flying, he's an AC777 pilot you'd think he flys enough.
My fatherinlaw was 6ft 7" , you always get a bulkhead seat or you do not fit in the plane. My son the dwarf is 6ft4, he doesnt fit well either.
My biggest problem is flying with people that dont fly alot , they dont know who gets what armrest, that you dont fold you feet up on the seats, and if you eat garlic wasabi noodles before boarding eat a breathmint or three
FYI for you. With all of the issues around human rights, discrimination etc....... it is no longer acceptable to refer to fat people as "elephants".
If you must refer to these people at all, and I strongly suggest you don't............, please use the term "weight challenged" as opposed to a term most people associate with huge or massive...........
Purchase the better seats. The ones with extra leg room, priority boarding and extra drink or two. Flying to Europe its the best $200 extra fee we gladly pay.
And if you get bent out of shape because your local dealership doesn't stock the brake lever you want and has to order it in, then you're "wait challenged"...
