You can actually make more money working at Tim Hortons then you can collecting from welfare.

Isn't part of the idea that you are inspired to get a job so you get more money? If you made more money on welfare than at a low end job no one would work the low end job as they could all just sit around on welfare...

That 5 year idea sounds great but then you'd still have people that sit on it for 5 years and then have nothing at the end. They'd starve to death and people wouldn't want that to be happening.

Ya and unfortunately the majority rules, whether they are einstein or your average brain dead canadian citizen.

How about we make it voluntary? So the average do gooder can donate even more of their paycheque to help these "needing citizens", and selfish people like me can keep their money and do something more useful with it.

The weird part with me is that their lifestyle really bothers me yet when I go chill with them occasionally I can't help but feel bad for them and give them free stuff. So far I've given away 3 computers (working of course) and bought I don't know how many dinners for entire families, drive mothers and their kids around, supply all the drinks/food for little get togethers and whatnot. Meanwhile I lend them money I'll never get back, have them steal money from me, steal supplies from me, steal my video games and controllers, ask me to replace parts on the computers that they never pay me back for. Then watch them sit around and smoke pot and play video games on the public dime while bitching about the government, the police, how they deserve this and that and how welfare is too low, say they don't need to worry about saving for college for their kids because the government will pay for that as well (or so they think, which isn't true). Argh, I'm such a sucker.

Yes, it's called being a better person. Unlike that bulldog guy (forget his nick) who figures if one person is a dick, everybody gets to be a dick. Yay!

I know a few families that foster 3-4 kids. That's $65K-$86K a year in additional income, plus tax incentives. Nobody's paying my family $20k+ a year to raise each of our kids.

I know they are also doing a "good" thing for kids in need, and some of the kids are more then a handlful, most come with some form of social/mental/physical issue they are dealing with, but that is quite an income supplement :shock:

It cost less to payout welfare to single mothers than pay for foster parents and jail down the road. Only the naive would look to derail single mothers on welfare.
