I'm sick in my heart

I want to know more about the person who did it. I want to know if he has a history of mental problems, or a criminal record. If we're going to stop this kind of behaviour, we have to understand it better.
Police said that he had no prior contact with London police. He had contact with other police forces in the past (didn't say where, when or why). No criminal convictions. No comment on involvement with hate groups. No comment on what was found at his arrest (other than wearing a garment that appeared to be body armour). No comment on evidence. No comment on why they believe it was pre-meditated. As Brian P says, that comes out at trial.

I beg to differ - racism is taught, its not an evolutionary process. Children don't hate.

There is a lot of scientific evidence that states your perspective is inverted but I know it's what was taught (even to us millennials.) Children absolutely hate and by default are the biggest ******** in the world if left unchecked. Think of it this way: the fastest ways to reward are through:
  • Elimination of competition (killing)
  • Lying (telling your boss you did something but didn't)
  • Emotional manipulation
    • Having two allies beats having none. Having two allies doing work for you is free reward
The role of parents is to steer children away from that **** and teaching them long term consequences that are not innate to our instincts or biology.

....my childhood racism stories would agree w/ the research I've read recently/watched too sadly. Along with how easily radicalized our society has become.

So who knows, maybe the guy responsible for this had a whole lot of hatred like Alek (guy who ran van down Yonge and Finch.)

Sometimes your posts are disturbing.

Lol I'm just echoing whatever I learned from podcasts and am always open to new ideas provided there's a plausible reason for an observation.

I'm not sure I agree that they "hate" on a race level. I would think more along the lines of sociopath where you do what you want and who cares about the others. You have done more concerted research on the topic though so I could be wrong. Obviously not every kid behaves the same way. As expected my nephew that was not exposed to the word no for many years as children should be free to explore and do what they want often does not behave in a societally acceptable way now that he is a bit older. A few weeks ago, he was spinning his little sister around with her arms behind her back, let go to slam her face into the ground than jumped on her and laughed. f me. His parents don't understand why he would behave like that. I don't get it. You literally told him to do what he wanted and nothing was wrong and now you expect him to magically know what is acceptable behaviour? There's a reason they call it raising children not feeding children.

This comes from the whole "my child is special and would never do that" attitude, which Jordan Peterson repeatedly attacks in his podcasts.

My bad, hate is the wrong adjective for racism...more like disgust (a physiological feeling) when seeing a person with differences (whether phenotypical via external features, or an abstraction like 'religion.') If the default behavior is to react to our natural feeling of disgust (aka. every Asian person knows last generation Asians are racist af lol) and society/parental influences do not teach a child to not give in...I don't think I need to elaborate this part =(

Animals (including us), in general, avoid anything that is drastically different from them due to diseases. We're evolutionarily wired to feel disgust at those who are different. Prior to globalization, which happened in the last hundred+ years, and we should remember evolution has had a far longer time to develop (billions of years), animals were naturally segregated. This also meant viral parasites and bacteria were separated. COVID, for example, is a virus that wouldn't have left China if we were a primitive species. There are apparently (I can't cite any) historical references to early North American settlers shaking hands with Tribe XYZ and proceed to accidently wipe out Tribe XYZ or the inverse happening.

That makes no sense at all.

Animals fight each other not because they are afraid of getting diseases. They fight for territory, resources and mates.

Tribalism occurs because a group of animals is stronger than an individual. Packs of wolves will defend their territory and resources from other packs invading their space. Same goes for plenty of species, be they animal, insect, whatever.

They don't fight each other because they fear getting diseases. That's just non-sense.

I’ve never heard of tribes going to an enemy to prevent disease.

Usually it’s a simple reason…the other tribe has something I want. Be it food, resources, women, land, or whatever it is I feel that I deserve and will take it by any means necessary.

EDIT: I’ll keep my statement but when ‘disease’ context is changed to the other tribes and what not…I agree.

This is a language thing. Whereas in English people often call other groups of people "savages", in many languages, people refer to other groups as "dirty", "diseased", and variations thereof. These labels are thousands of years old.

Which is where the idea of ethnic cleansing comes from, to cleanse the population.

Either way, we need to do better as humans then our basic animalistic tendencies

Again, I disagree.

I know what @油井緋色 is getting at with the disease angle, but he's confusing natural selection with tribalism.

Animals do feel repulsed at deformity and illness, but they don't actively extinguish members of their species because of it. They are repulsed by them, avoid them and don't mate with them, letting the forces of natural selection and survival of the fittest weed out the bad genes.

From some of the video's I've now seen from London Police it does indeed look like a targeted attack.

Bleeping doug. What a moron. Following the science yet again. /s Yes, this was a tragedy but if you can exempt gathering limits to allow unlimited people at the vigil with no impact on spread, the limits obviously aren't required. It's sad to see how far he's fallen. The politicians alone showing up at the vigil would exceed capacity limits. No concrete action from any of them, just photo opportunities.

Tonight a vigil will be held at the London Muslim Mosque that was attended by the family and Ford said that his government will be issuing a one-time exemption to pandemic-related gathering limits so that the “people can gather and grieve with the family and with members of the Muslim community.”

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will attend tonight’s vigil, as will Ford.

Conservative Party and NDP leaders Erin O’Toole and Jagmeet Singh will also attend the vigil.

Again, I disagree.

You can disagree all you want, but only because you are fixated into an English context. You are incorrect with regards to traditional racism in most of the world.

The German posters written in German called Jews and Slavs dirty, filthy and diseased, as did the Japanese posters talking about the Chinese. And countless other leaders of genocides against civilian populations.

Why? Because that was already the well established way to speak down on other races in most of the world.

Scientific evidence from where? Do you have children?

I do, three adults now. Not one of them "hates" based on race, religion, gender or sexual orientation. We taught our kids to believe that, for the most part, people are generally pretty good. We also taught them how to think objectively and critically and listen to their instincts because there are people that are not so good. Identifying the difference takes some time to master.

Children are absolutely taught to hate.

You're confusing root cause with justification.

Arab vs Jew was about territory. Japan invading China and other countries was about conquest and expanding the Japanese empire.

Calling Jews "filthy" and Chinese "dirty" was justifying their acts of barbarism. To dehumanize the enemy and to make it easier for their soldiers to carry out extermination orders.

The underlying root cause for any kind of tribal conflict always boils down to territory and resources. What we choose to hide it behind, be it a flag, a book, or whatever symbol rallies the tribe is just moral justification for heinous acts.

"We" are not... it's THAT GUY.

what we should be doing is stop blaming "society" for all these types of incidents and start hanging perpetrators from lamp posts.
Going after individual hateful people does not allow for press conferences to announce you are going after "them", then funding to go after "them", then a press conference declaring victory over "them".
