I'm giving away money

I got my two dogs from here http://arbedrescue.com/?page_id=70 . The woman that runs this rescue, Debra, is amazing, she's gutted an RV and converted it into shelter for the dogs she rescues. She's built a ramp into her home for disabled rescue dogs and some of them are her personal pets too. She takes in quite a few puppy mill rescues from Quebec and her vets bills can be pretty high. I've been to quite a few rescues but this one was different. She would welcome anything anyone could donate. She's based in Martinstown north of Cornwall.

I find that what you are doing is amazing and inspiring. I probably can’t help as much as you seem to be doing but I definitely can do my share of good. I’ve always worked hard, multiple jobs at the same time while being in college and university and now I have a good steady job that pays for all I need and pretty much all I want.

My birthday is also coming soon in August and I’ll be turning 30 this year. I should make it a point to do some good in my community this year.

A few years ago, I rose founds for Right to Play. This charity helps kids be kids by using sport and play to educate and empower children and youth to overcome the effects of poverty, conflict, and disease in disadvantaged communities. I really thought this was a great program that can make a difference in the life of some child who might not have it easy at home for various reasons.

Although giving to a charity is the easy way, it’s not the same as a one on one donation. I totally get your point. I think I will go out and buy some sporting equipment (soccer balls, basketballs, …) and give them to random people in parks who could benefit from it. I really like to idea of paying for someone’s grocery in a store. It can really make a difference for a family.

Anyway, I’ll follow this thread and see how it goes…

Sonny, are you the real Santa Claus?
Crap... I think I have just blew your cover.

Playin' the shelter card again. Adopted a Shepherd in April (London Humane Society -no-kill facility). The trasition food was a mixture of crap bargain kibble, and about half as much as it should be for the recommended transition schedule. I asked about the stuff, and they said they rely on donations, so it's that or cuts elsewhere.

Forgot how much fun the insolent teenager phase is. "I found it at the park. Is that a problem?"

A little help for the feline crowd? My finance and I are having our wedding guests donate to this rescue instead of giving us wedding presents. The lady who runs the rescue has been doing a great job with some really hard cases like the little kitten left beaten outside a McDonalds in Toronto last year.

For those following this thread, there is a bigger message.
it can be cash, dog chow, spare time. There are literally hundreds of ways to do a little good, it doesn't take much to effect change.

Some things I learned in that last year. A lot of schools do not have enough easy reading books for the speech pathologists to help kids with pronounciation, lots for the better readers.
Most schools in "challenge" areas run a breakfast program, those areas are NOT where you think they are.

Cancer in one way or another will effect ALL of us, directly , a friend or a relative.

There are never enough volunteer coaches for minor sport.

Scouting never has enough leaders that can put a tent up

Big brothers/ sisters does good work

So heres a plan, when your asked at CTC/ chapters, Indigo, The grocery store to give to the love reading, lunch, jump start, say NO THANKS. because they avoid thousands in corporate taxes by pooling your money.
But keep track of being asked and direct that money in an amount that will get you a tax reciept. YOU win and THEY win.

For your time you are on your own, but since I became involved in a few things with spare time, one of the biggest needs is time.

Done. The theme seems to be animals this year but I really like helping individual people or families who are off the radar too. Not just charities or rescues....so if someone you know needs help post or PM.
