the reality is,, the emergency vehicle, its cost, the employees time are budget items to the municipality... but the extra costs incurred to go to a scene could be fuel.. consumables like gauze or something.. wear and tear on the brakes.. I dunno the list.. but for sure the actual costs to drive to the scene was probably $60 in fuel, and $40 in admin fees to collect that money... or.. if it really costs $5400... or $800 to drive to the QEW and back.. for that guy with the hood up.... then how much does it cost for that same truck to swing by the coffee shops on a slow day... really! 4 Fireman in a truck, going for a drive on a nice day.. pick up some coffee .... oh,, test driving the truck! ,,,, ok... ;-) I don't hate firefighters... it is the budget makers that conjure up numbers out of no where ...... the ice fisher should have to pay a couple hundred... but no way is it user pay for 911... if no one calls in for a few days,, will they charge that out toooo as they were "on call" for his needs? wrong! and on a serious note. Does any insurance cover you for a nature walk where you twist your ankle, or fall thru the ice and need a rescue? I think my benifits cover that $50 fee for the ambulance. .... I think my auto insurance covers the responding 911 crews for an accident... and ..... i think if a third party calls 911 for you , you can refuse services, and they won't send you the bill,, even if the person who responds decides they have to transport you, or direct traffic.. this might be a different policy for different jurisdictions...
