Hyundai hhd1250 1000w generator at Wal-Mart

Used. Guy had about 1 hour on it. 2012 model still under 3 year warranty. I paid $1050. It hurts to spend that sort of cash but I was getting weary of worrying if my genny would or wouldn't start. And watching my mates start their Hondas with one pull while I was straining myself trying to start mine.

Keep in mind... if you take care of it you can use it for years and years and years then sell it for $800 in a heartbeat.

Just bit the bullet and picked up a yamaha 2000i yesterday. Salesman started it in the showroom and no even one seemed to even notice. It's very quite!

What's the difference between a generator and a generator/invertor?
And what's difference between the following two styles? (other than looks/watts)
Is it just a matter of being portable/lighter?
The reason I'm asking is because I see similar models to the second picture going for considerably cheaper than the first picture.
Thoughts?

The inverter models top picture generate the AC voltage using an electronic module, "inverter", giving you a more stable voltage output. They also tend to be quieter and lighter but are also better if you are running any electronics off them, laptops etc..

Here is your expert answer from the only source I would trust.....

I bought the champion 2000w inverter from Costco, it's quiet and hasn't let me down yet (one race weekend and several track days), starts first pull too which is nice. I'd say it's just as quiet as a Honda and Costco is good about warrenty. You can JUST run 2 sets of warmers on it too. Good buy at $650.

The first type is quiet and sips fuel because it is an inverter generator so the engine doesn't run any faster than it has to, and it has a good enclosure to contain noise.

The second type is thirstier and will make you "that guy" (with the annoying-as-all-heck noisy generator).

Came a cross an EU1000i...
My buddy plans on tagging along, so we would be running two sets of warmers, laptop, phone chargers and what not.
Is the 1000 enough or should I keep hunting for a 2000i?

A 1000 Watt generator will struggle to run one set of warmers. You'll need at least a 2000 to run 2 sets. The laptop will draw less than one tenth what a set of warmers draws, the phone charges are not a significant load.

Bickle warmers draw about 900w. Other warmers draw higher so a 1000w genny will just about run 1 set of Bickles but may struggle with other warmers. A 1000w genny won't run 2 sets of Bickles unless they're on and off at seperate times.

I picked up a set of Woodcraft dual temp warmers, not sure how many watts they would draw...
I'll keep hunting for a 2000i, thanks!

I have a Yamaha 1000 inverter I can use my laptop and charge my go pro while the bickles are plugged in. Never sputtered.

I wouldn't doubt it. The Go Pro and laptop draw virtually nothing and there's a good chance the warmers aren't always cycling at exactly the same time. Also, whilst Bickle warmers are rated at 900w they probably draw a bit less. I have mates with Honda 1000w inverters and they happily run the same load as you for days on end. Maybe saying "just about run" was a bit vague. A Honda or Yamaha shouldn't have any issue. A lower end may struggle. As mentioned before I had a cheap Honeywell 2000w which happily ran 2 sets of Bickles as well as laptop, speaker, charger etc. I've read a report recently about the Briggs & Stratton 2000w inverter only producing 1600w. That'd be an issue for 2 sets of warmers.

As an update, the Hyundai 200W inverter I mentioned earlier in this thread as working well since I have owned it, is now a problem. It fouls plugs in 5 mins. It extremely difficult to start at all, and fuel physically flows out of it. I suspect that the carb float is stuck or something like that. I have yet to take it apart to look .

An update on my HY2000i.

After about one full season of use it started acting up. It would run, then surge, the die randomly. Fire right back up and run for a while then die again.

I sold it for $50 and pulled the trigger on a Honda EU2000i.
