I saw you go past ATGATT - don't know how you do it
Looks are deceiving...my old Joe Rocket jacket is pretty much entirely mesh. That said I stopped at one picnic table by a lake and soaked my poly riding shirt during that ride. Felt wonderful. 😍
It's been nice riding in mid-20s as it's winter here now.
Actually went up to Tully Gorge today and had to put a poly layer on over my riding shirt. Bit of misty rain and overcast got chilly - glad to see a bit of sun later then lost it again.

Anyone heading west ....BC is just cooking ...40c+

I really don’t know why people put aftermarket exhaust on jap V-twins, They really sound like **** when they do.

Well, that's kind of a generalization, especially considering there's a pretty wide variety of options for many bikes. You're saying they *all* sound like crap?

Personally, I think the V&H's on my Vulcan sound kinda nice. Just a nice tasteful rumble at most low to mid RPM's and a little more when you really roll onto it hard.

I think maybe you've been around too many people with bikes in which they've just drilled out the baffles or something to try to make them sound aftermarket instead of just buying aftermarket. I agree that often ends up sounding like ****.

Only 30 and some of you guys are throwing in the gear towel? Hah.

My body does not handle heat well.

You know that guy you see out in January running around in a snowstorm in shorts and a light spring jacket?

I'm that guy.

I thought I'd read much of Aus was in lockdown again or something?

I've lived in my current house now for over 20 years. I know all the roads within an hour of my house (in SWO) and mostly they suck. That means a 2 hour ride does nothing for me.
A friend who was into 4 wheeling talked about how when he first got into it they would race out after work or on a Saturday to somewhere nearby that might be a challenge. They started calling it the 60 yard dash. It didn't take long before that was mundane and it was only weekend long camping trips or week long adventures that interested them.
I too am tired of the 60 yard dash. Unless I'm out with someone else a short ride bores me. I'm happy to let the bike languish for a few weeks until I can load up for a week long jaunt. Filling a tank bag and heading out for the day is a luke warm second place.

Reading the replies......

Whoa, you guys are really something!

I got my bike beginning of April, have been riding and practising alone almost everyday except for snowy/rainy days. 1,400km so far. Love it every time going for a ride....sometimes laughing under my helmet.... completely in my world

Didnt go on highway much because I dislike the strong wind..... pulling me all directions!!!

The wind thing is daunting in the beginning. Do 1400 km on the highway and you probably won’t notice it.

I sitll remember tar snakes in the road freaked me out my first year of riding, I used to think they were pulling me lol over the road. The next year I didn’t notice them.

Only the Toronto type ( 3-4 ) cities and realize they pull the trigger on a very low case load. Like 4 new cases is enough to lock down - in the smaller city of Darwin -1 new case to lock down. That new variant tho is causing havoc ...tho that is relatively still mild...chasing the contacts is a *****.
single case
Greater Darwin is in day two of its 48-hour lockdown after a fly-in, fly-out mine worker travelled home to Palmerston via Darwin before testing positive to COVID-19.
One worker...
Northern Territory where Darwin is, is 40% larger than Ontario with a total population of 246,000.

Queensland is 80% larger than Ontario with only the population of the GTA in total.
Coronavirus restrictions will be introduced in Queensland after the state recorded three new cases of COVID-19 overnight.
Two of those were acquired locally and one was acquired overseas and detected in hotel quarantine. One of the locally acquired cases is connected to the Portuguese Family Centre.

January running around in a snowstorm in shorts and a light spring jacket?
I was too but not the same if not moving around. I had to put on another layer yesterday in the low mountains as it was misty and 20 C 🥴
Horrid winter weather. :D

I got shad sh36 side bags to fit on the z900 without removing my mods

The hyper naked is now a bagger ....

Whispers starting to leak out of a mid July reopening of the border.

Plans are afoot for a week down to do the Cherohala, the Tail, Moonshiners, Back of the Dragon, and then a bunch of the Blue Ridge on the way back north.

Sweet. Utah and Arizona are calling out my name.

Hopefully by September, we're outta here.

The big question will be any hassles along with the process. If double vaxxed people still need to go through complicated or time consuming quarantines and testing and such after returning home it could really throw a wrench in things.

A test once home and a 24 hour wait until it comes back or something, I can handle. A test before you come home, then one at the border, then one at home, and a 3-7 day quarantine or something nonsensical like that...different story.

Test cycle times are getting better. Kid got kicked out of daycare for a runny nose (again). Brain poke required. Less than 12 hours later we had results.

I think a lot will depend on how F-d up things will be down south. I'm not up-to-date, but last I heard, the US as a whole seems to be doing better than some parts of Canada - definitely better than Ontario, worse than BC.

Each province will probably have different rules, similar to the way things are now.

I don't know so much about that. I think the USA is on the cusp of another wave considering their vaccination numbers are terrible in many states and they've pretty much given up with any and all precautions. Numbers are starting to creep back up in many states....Missouri for example has almost 6000 new cases in the last 7 days. Nevada, 3000. Utah 2500. Florida 1300.

Comparatively, Ontario is doing spectacular when placed against most US states with the exception of the ones surrounding us which have also benefited from high vaccination numbers.

I've pretty much written off U.S. roads for the 2021 season. A fall trip is tentatively planned, but dependant on border crossing process re testing and quarantine periods.

Border aside, any place we go in the U.S. is going to be a rural area, likely GOP country with relatively low vax rates, and perhaps low tolerance for anyone wearing a mask. We'll have to see how covid variants play out.

Another issue is going to be medical insurance coverage. haven't researched this in detail, but all the standard policies I've seen specifically exclude covid. Being double vaxed, should not really be an issue, but those variants could be a greater risk in the fall, will have to see.

That's a surprise. Around the middle of last year, lots of travel health policies explicitly included covid coverage. The insurance companies revenue stream had dried up and once they had half an idea what the likelihood and cost for treatment was, they could easily price it into their policy the same as any other affliction.
