How much should I be paying?

As much as the RR would be nice, it is mostly an insurance thing. Being under 25 and such has large factors!

On the plus side, I might be able to stretch to the RR as I'd be on a plan B.

I also mostly chose the f4i for ergonomics as I've heard it is technically a sport / touring but if someone could vouch for the comfort of a RR. I'm curious if there is a big difference between riding posture and comfortability.

Sorry to tell you but an F4i and an RR will be almost identical on insurance as they are both supersports.

The F4i is awesome for Ergo's. I commuted 2 hours a day daily on mine and put 1100kms on in a day. Bought it at 14K and sold it at 77K, not a major problem with it.
But if your looking for Ergo's and cheap insurance, you might want to get out of the SS market and look more at SV650, Ninja 650, Katana, something that is classified as a Sport Touring.

I believe State Farm still has the 25yr old discount (If you meet their requirements wih the G license)

i just spoke with my broker and i think she said it was 25 and nothing again till age 50.. i was oping for a age 30 discount but no luck.

the newer ninja 650's look great, also the fz6r looks alright too.
i think the other one is a en6r thats a streetfighter. i wish it was a 4cyl

I was reading up on cbr f4i vs 650.

Apparently some people feel that the cbr f4i is not a beginner bike?

What's it like vs the ninja 650?

the F4i is not a beginners bike, neither are most 600cc bikes.

"For the 2001 model year Honda released an upgraded version of the popular CBR600F4 with intentions of becoming more competitive in the middleweight sport bike class"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_CBR600F

yes you can probably learn on a sports bike, but really you will get more out of a non supersport (and have more insurance options). the f4i may be a older bike but its still fast.
ive never ridden a 650 so im not going to bs you and say i have (or a f4i), my buddy has a 2007(ish) ninja 650 and he likes it. he doesnt like the position of the bars so we are putting sport bars on it this year, the exhaust is crazy quiet but a slip on can fix that for a few bucks. from what ive heard they are much more forgiving than a 600cc sport bike and about half the power.

if this is your first street bike also check out a cbr500 or ninja 300. they both are "bigger" little bikes and more insurance friendly. the fit and finish on the ninja 300 isnt perfect, they had issues with fairing tabs slipping out, but they replaced the fairing for free as it was a known issue. buy used, not new. you may only ride it 1 season then buy something else but you wont have issues reselling it ad will get almost what you paid for it.
if you are firm on a full size bike check out the ninja 650, i really like the looks of the newer ones especially for something classified as sport touring.
IF state farm changes their insurance rating system ill probably be looking into a sport touring in the next couple years, and ill be considering the ninja, but leaning towards Yamaha street fighter models depending on how insurance rates those, or go back to harley....which cost me exactly half to insure than my cbr600....ugh.....gotta pay to play.

as a example, here is a 2012 ninja 650cc for $5900, and you can probably get one for a little less. i dont know what year they started doing the 2 separate seats like how a SS would have them... i just think they look a little better.

edit:
i think this 1 belongs to youngryder. he laid it down a week after getting it but it wasnt bad... but he was going fast.

Dont limit yourself as much by mileage as by the condition of the bike.

There are bikes with 3K that are beat to hell, meanwhile other bikes have 50K and look and run like the day they left the showroom floor

Paul is 100% correct. I picked up a 2002 Yamaha R6 from GP Bikes last summer for $4G with 47,000km with one owner... The guy barely rode the thing (he has multiple bikes and they know him well) and this was a show piece. Literally can't find a scratch... Runs like a dream and has every Rizoma accessory you could ever dream of having. My brand new bike off a show room floor in 2012 that I had, got more scratches in 15,000km at the end of the season from normal use then this used bike would have ever gotten from its previous owner. I swear, the tires were used and it looked like the guy never ever hit a turn lol. Pegs had no scuffs from leaning it over through a corner.. Got babied big time. Runs perfect, literally couldn't find anything wrong with it.

Buying someone's used bike is worth it if you can find one of the few gems out there!

Ive ridden a 250 rebel and the new 500 and the 750 when I was at Honda's Rock the Red.

I don't think consider myself a beginner but I'm definitely not a pro.

I'm looking for a bike that has great fit and finish, sufficient pull when I need it and overall just really damn comfortable and just a gem to ride everyday.

The purchase I make will most likely be my bike for a while as I'm not planning to go anything higher than 700

Do you guys recommend going to a dealership like mentioned Gp bikes in Whitby or stonge in Barrie?

I am willing to go as far as Hamilton as long as the deal is good, to be completely honest.

Mint bike or not...even 4g's ( plus tax im assuming) is too much for an 02 r6. At least an r6 that is fuel injected and more modern would have been worth it, unless you really really wanted a carbed r6.

An F4i is a Supersport bike, The 650's are sport touring bikes.

F4i has about 96HP, CBR-RR has about 99HP, 650's have about 60HP.

the F4i is in the same class as the R6, GSX-R, and Ninja.
Straight line it is side by side with the RR, the RR just more for the track and the F4i is more for muskoka rides.

Personally, I have never bought used at a dealership. You will always find a better deal/price privately. Take your time, shop around. Find a clean, well maintained bike. Check your insurance prices BEFORE you buy. I have bought a bike or two in my time, and have regretted a couple purchases made in a hurry, or out of excitement. Don't settle, don't be blinded. The right bike will come up. For less expensive (insurance wise), look at the 650r ninja, sv650s, bandit 600.

generally i would agree with this, but i think its Voss on kijiji has fairly good prices on their bikes right now. i cant speak for the condition, i swear some have been for sale since last season.

Check out reviews on VOS Motors. I don't think they were favourable. Another import American bikes and inflate the price place, if I remember correctly...

the f41 is actually not a supersport according to some insurance companies. It's sport touring.

This is what I've heard.

I got a quote on f4i and r6

$180 and 200 respectively. Are these acceptable figures for a 22 year old?

Dont buy an older r6 unless you're not planning to use second gear, ever :lmao:

I believe this is a myth unless you have some sort of proof behind it...... I believe the reason behind people thinking this is the fact it has a more upright seating position then every SS.

I got insurance quotes from about 12 different places and it was classified as a supersport at every one except SF (It was classified as a 600cc).
