How do you bug/avoid the 407 cameras?

His information is years out of date. They extended camera coverage, to take in the breakdown lanes, a long time ago. It was around the same time that they increased the reaction times of the cameras, so that you could no longer escape paying by blowing by them at 180 Kmh. Both of those bits of information came form someone who worked on the project.

Too true. When the 407 was new our group would scream through the cameras at maximum velocity and never got a charge. I heard that changed around 9 years ago.

Of course, with the amount of people talking about this, I'm sure they have a few dedicated OPP just for this purpose:

From the Highway Traffic Act (Ontario):

Evasion, etc., of electronic toll system

191.3 (1) No person shall engage in an activity or use any device or material for the purpose of evading, obstructing or interfering with the effective operation of an electronic toll system. 1996, c. 1, Sched. E, s. 2 (3).

I would imagine all they here is "I didn't do it."

hey OP,

I've done plenty of research for you.. you know, for science.

I take the 407 home everyday, I get on at Weston Road and I exit 427. Not a big trek at all, but for fun, I wanted to see what worked and what didn't. These are my findings.

• I've exited the 427 at well over 200km/h and I still got hit, so speeding is definitely out.

• I've tried the right curb on entry and exit. Sometimes I would get hit, sometimes I wouldn't. I would always attempt to get as close as possible. Either, way if you get caught on entry or exit, you will get billed. On your bill, there will be an * that says the camera's couldn't get a reading on either exit or entry so depending on what exit you exited/entered, they will bill you from the previous entry or exit point. Ex. If I snuck past the Weston entry ramp without getting caught, but I got caught on the 427 exit ramp. 407 will assume I entered on Pine Valley as that's the previous exit from the 427.

I never tried the left side curb but I've noticed that on some exit/entry ramps, the roads are wider and some are easier to evade then others. You'll have to do your research as well, you know for science to figure out what works for you or not.

I don't have a fender eliminator kit, my license plate it's pretty low and sticks out pretty far. I'm sure with some modifications to tuck the plate in, these evading maneuvers will yield better results but as I stated earlier, I'm not trying to rip the 407 off, just doing some edumacation. For science. :p

Thank you, seems like we've both come to the same conclusion. I've been unable to get any steady results either =/

This thread is almost as entertaining as the previous one about avoiding the tolls. Most posts are a like a re-run of Friends, still entertaining but no more belly laughs.

I rely on statistics in that question ;)

New discussion on same subject(s) allow for new ideas from new people. Here's an idea:

"407 Fridays!"

Everyone use the 407 on Fridays, and no one pay for it.

What are they going to do have the entire OPP chasing people? Hire every collection agency in Ontario to go after bills that everyone writes "F-off on?"

From "407 Fridays", you segue into taking over the 407 permanently ignoring all. bills. They don't have the infrastructure to deal with this, which is basically a "hostile takeover" which is seen in business all the time. Eventually the Federal Government will have to get involved and the floor will be forced to open discussion in the house of commons to buy back this highway that never should have been sold and is desperately needed to make Ontario (the epicenter of Canada) work.

I've found that the best way to not get caught by the 407 cameras is to stay on the 401. It has a 100% success rate and is completely legal.

I agree that the 407 charges are high... very high, so I stay off. An empty 407 speaks volumes.

chinese people are not cheap.

we just nickel and dime the **** out of everyone.

I'm on your side...but I don't see how this would work. Wouldn't everyone just get billed? Then when you don't pay, you risk getting your credit messed up. And that whole time you don't pay, fees get racked up...

I'm not really interested in that (yet) tbh. When I get a 600 I might be because then it'll be too easy and tempting to just kill the throttle and get pulled for +50.

I've tried exceeding that speed thing and it doesnt work.. I still got billed..

Same approach here. I never use the 407. Don't want to pay them, then simply don't use it.

The 407 is not empty, so they're getting enough people willing to pay the cost ...

The Federal gov owns 30% of the 407 corp through the CPP why would they get involved? The tolls are set to keep the road flowing and maximize revenue if you don't like it don't use it.
