How do you bug/avoid the 407 cameras?

btw, I never said if I was Chinese/Japanese/Korean/Vietnamese/Hong Kong/anything else I missed lol I guess anything with symbols mean Chinese.

Also, I meant nothing with the "brown" comment, just throwing ignorance against ignorance. Anyway thanks for the answers, gonna check my next bill to see if the curbs do work.

lol yes please let us know. Very curious.

Do you get this up in arms when the City or Province sells off land too?

I do. The 407 isn't "land", it's a business. Selling public companies is frequently used as a short term bandaid for a budget shortfall that's coming back next year to bite you in the ***. What profitable public enterprise will be given up this go around? Worse yet is privatizing a function required by public companies, say catering.

In the 407's case, look at how the public has been screwed over. The government thought they had things covered by having wording in the contract about limitations to raising tolls. The scum running it raised the tolls anyway, our government took them to court and appealed multiple times, and 407 International Inc still got their way. Look at it this way, the 407 is the most expensive toll road per KM in North America by 240%.

Is there anything more expensive anywhere else in the world? I'd be surprised. There might be some toll roads in western Europe, but this will be rather insignificant distances, or bridges and tunnels. I think 407 is the thing taking the crown worldwide .... and that is not a good thing, especially considering how it was built and then sold. Nothing else comes close to this scheme ....

Just for the record, I don't need to use it, and never will.

I've done it accidentally at least three times since I started riding in June; the charges show up as 99 cents. Normally I go a $5 trip each day, but being a student it's starting to eat me a new hole. Does anyone know what exactly you have to do to "bug" the 407's cameras to not catching you? I've heard it's left curb or right curb at fast speeds.

Keep moral debates out of this; not all of us want to dispose of our income or want to take 3x the amount of time to hit our destination each day.

So not only are you cheap you are also lazy. You stated you have done this accidentally a few times already. Why not put in the effort and figure out what it was you did all by yourself? Seems pretty simple. Drive in the left curb for a week, then the right curb wait for the bill and see what you get charged for those particular weeks.

I don not agree with cheating the system but if you are going to, then why not keep it to yourself? Posting about it here will only inform those who have the ability to change/fix it. Then you ruin it for everyone else who has/is doing it.

When I was a student, I took the bus to school every day, because I couldn't afford a vehicle.

Anyone know how to rent a violin from Long & McQuade to play for the OP, without having to pay for it?

Yes if true that would PISS me off totally! Not that I live or visit Toronto that much, but the thought of a world wide known landmark being sold off just to make a buck to be an advertising board makes me mad! This is why some bonehead politicians need to be slapped repeatedly until sane! WTF? Selling off or privatizing services is OK if they are a completely losing proporsion, like garbage pick up as has been done recently. But the CN Tower? Come on???? Even Canadians can't be that stupid can they? Is Big Ben, the Iffel Tower, pyramids, Grand canyon, list list goes on......private? Not that I'm aware of.....so why on earth should we sell the CN Tower? Morrons.

But it is getting close to April Fools day...isn't it??? Or at least it should be thinking like this!!!

CN Tower is not a good example of something that doesn't need to be privatized.

407 = $0.22/km (Cost to build: 1.6 billion in 2007, about 1.7 billion now.)

CN Tower = $68.40/km (Cost to build: 63 million in 1976, about 370 million now.)

Who is gouging us again? And don't tell me you HAVE to use the 407. You just WANT to.

LOL, the same way I felt when I heard that. But from what I heard, they are not gonna sell it anymore.

Read about the history of CN Rail and you'll quickly learn the 407 ETR is simply business as usual for Canadian politicians. Heck, our first PM was neck deep in the Pacific Scandal of 1872.

Look at where or dear leaders end up when the leave public office. That should tell you a bit about their allegiances in general.

I used to wheelie through the cameras if the ramp was friendly.

Now I just pay. It's stealing, after all.

looool. Paint your bike grey, wear grey leathers, go fast, and they'll think you're just some crack on the ground.

This is the ultimate in plate hiding:

http://www.tricplate.com/

Expensive tho. There are knock-offs out there for much cheaper.

Had one of my teachers at Senaca(Police Foundations course) who is a traffic cop tell us to drive in the curb and they wont get you. Also to cover your plate with dirt and say sorry if you get pulled over and tell them you will clean your car as soon as you get home. lol

His information is years out of date. They extended camera coverage, to take in the breakdown lanes, a long time ago. It was around the same time that they increased the reaction times of the cameras, so that you could no longer escape paying by blowing by them at 180 Kmh. Both of those bits of information came form someone who worked on the project.

Yea, I was thinking about that. I did the course in 2005.

OP you're getting a big bill then. lol
