Having a society where people make their own decisions and take risks is not disingenuous. I'm not here to get points either. My feeling is that the correct choice is to get vaccinated, but it's also that those who don't aren't a risk to anyone but themselves. I'm not interested in living in a Bolshevik authoritarian state. I find it alarming that so many people these days don't care about losing their freedom.
Gotta take you to task on this one. Since most of the people clogging hospitals are nonvaxxed are they not risking the lives of people looking for surgery and treatment who can't get in because the hospital is full of these same people?

I was in a hospital just before Covid to see a relative who was dying. It was a freaking war zone. There were no beds, people on cots in the hallway, not enough nurses and support staff, the ones that were there were burnt out, and the doctors were all trying to send dying people home to keep the nurses from quitting. It was an absolute disgrace.

Yup. The Ford cutbacks to the health care system are problematic. Since my wife's brain injury in 2017 we have seen a lot of the effects. And trying to get help for her lately is even tougher with the extra pressure put on the system. Any clinic will tell you that they are stretched to the limit because of covid. It is worse now.

But Ford isn't the only one responsible. Health care funding is Trudeau's job and he hasn't kept up with the federal contributions. Then there's the inherent inefficiencies of the system and the concessions we made to American drug cartels in the USMCA.
The unvaccinated clogging up hospitals is definitely a bug in universal health care which we're all feeling, and it's pretty disgraceful. But there are two sides to this coin -- people forget that here in Canada the government has a monopoly on health care, at least ICUs/hospitals. There are no private hospitals in Canada. Given that fact it's partially the government's job to solve this problem -- literally no one else can.
It was pretty clear from day one that not everyone would get vaccinated. A 100% vaccination rate is a totally unrealistic goal. Even before the pandemic and all the political BS about vaccines, there were people who were antivax. We had measles outbreaks in TDSB schools because the vaccination rate of children was low. Anyone with a brain could have seen this situation coming from a mile away. Do you think the government did anything to boost ICU beds, and hire more staff in light of this fact? Nope. Two years into this and our joke of a healthcare system holds us back because of our bureaucratic red tape and moronic politicians. Becoming a nurse in Ontario is so hard already due all the hoops that people have to jump through. Add to this the sub-par pay and the allure of making $6-10k a week in the US as a travel nurse, and well there you have your staff shortages.
So yeah, the unvaccinated are idiots and they are definitely holding us hostage. But that's been an issue that most intelligent policy makers could have foreseen in November 2020. I blame the antivaxxers and the government equally.

My mom trained as a nurse in the early 50's , its not like Doug Ford did this or its anything new . My wife has worked in hospitals on and off for years , they are salary capped at 1% , often work 8+ hrs with no break , and yes , I visited a friend in hospital that was on a cot in a former lounge/sitting area . In a hospital not a decade old , that does not have enough beds for the catchment area they occupy .
(partially because the public are retards , but thats a longer story)
I'm not a math guy, however if 90 +% of the population is vaxxed . Would it not stand to reason there are a lot of Vaxed people ending up in hospital ?? Vaxed vs unvaxed in hospital is just a stupid statistic , the pool is just sooo much larger on the vaxed side.
And the vaccine doesnt not prevent covid, but it makes it 'less ' likely to be on your back . Either way if you have a whack of health issues, elderly , fat , you may end up in hospital.

Evoex posted about this earlier with some good graphics. Math isn’t a strong point for the anti-vax crowd it seems. Along with science, a sense of community, selfless behaviour and critical thinking skills.

I'm a math guy, and these numbers are so clear that you can't have fun with stats.
For 2021, the vaxed vs un-vaxed numbers are quite telling, and meaningful. For the last calendar year, 90% of Ontario COVID related ICUs and morgues admissions were unvaccinated. About 82% of Canadians are vaccinated, another 6% too young to be vaccinated. That leaves about 12% of eligible persons unvaccinated.
In a nutshell, 12% of the population is responsible for 90% of the hospital Covid related chaos.
You are safer than they are. But you can still carry it and spread it. And they can do the same but to a greater degree. This is how it spreads like wildfire. People let thier guard down.
Can you send me an article that proves this? They're not allowed in gyms, night clubs, restaurants, sporting events etc...where are they spreading it more than the vaxxed?
If you compare it to many other government funded jobs like OPP it is. I think that is a crap comparison though as OPP is off in the rhubarb. If he wants to compare to a travel nurse in the US (not exactly sure what that is), a better comparison seems like a fly-in nurse on reservations where the pay scale is entirely different.

I'm not saying it's crap. I'm saying that when you are in a regulated profession that requires a university degree, looking out and seeing hockey goons paid more is demoralizing.
just started reading a book by Robert F. Kennedy called 'The Real Anthony Fauci'...reading about all these doctors who did studies and actually practiced treating Covid-19 using a variety of medicines currently available (antihistamines, steroids, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, aspiring, nasal washes, bronchodilators and blood thinners) but were shut down/told to stop because Fauci pushed his vaccination protocol...haven't looked into it further yet but I plan on reading/watching up on Dr. David Brownstein and Dr. Peter McCullough...
I like reading about nutjobs too. Kennedy is right up there. please read his propaganda and spread it around. Aren't we supposed to be a little bit critical thinkers? think of the source.
Oh and suicides aren't up. that's an assumption that people think 'sounds' true.
@Brian P and @hdsomeday I know nothing (other than his lineage) about R.F.K. Jr...I haven't made it far enough into the book yet to have formed an opinion, just reading up on some of the studies that have been done on treatments that exist but have been shut down by Fauci and the NIH...once I'm done, I'll get back to you guys...
