Homelessness Solved in U.S. Sanctuary New York City during COVID last year

I still think tougher enforcement and penalties need to be part of the solution. Go hard on dealers, harder on traffickers, and right hell on kingpins.

It confounds me that so much effort is placed on sheltering able bodied substance abusers. I don't think locking them up us a solution, but ties to rehab for those relying on social services could be stronger.

If you read up on PTSD and similar mind bending things that happen to people it becomes apparent that the real cure is for people to stop making other people drug dependent.

How do you stop a person with fetal alcohol or drug syndrome from going off the rails?

Answer: You stop the mother from getting wasted during pregnancy by locking her up in a safe environment. Oh wait, that infringes on her rights.

Then you ask why the mother wants to get wasted and you find out that she was abused as a child or teen so you have to stop that by going after her abusers.

Then you have to ask yourself why a person would want to abuse a young girl and then go after why that person became an abuser. Go after the situation that caused that.

See where I'm going. It isn't simple.

My family is suffering from the actions of Stalin and Hitler, both long dead. My in laws went through WWII in Europe passing on the frustrations to their kids.

Unlike a computer, there is no reset button or Crtl-Alt-Delete to return the brain to factory settings or kick it back into orbit.

Why dig back in the past to Nazi Germany? You only have to go back a few months to when our own government was (up until August) steering people with mental issues into using MAiD.

“He was told in his original phone call where he was offered MAiD, ‘we can do it for you, because we’ve done it before, and one veteran that we’ve done this for, after we completed MAiD, after we killed him, we now have supports in place for his wife and two children'”
Cant help but think that that there may be a bit of red herring in some of the recent media stories about the MAiD program. Had some experience dealing with the MAiD for my MIL with cancer. At the time their input requirements were very hard to meet and long story short she succumbed to the cancer first. Government assisted death is a bit of a hot potato.

They made it slightly easier recently. For instance, you no longer need to have an impending death to qualify. There are still some parts of the program that make it difficult to use (multiple sign offs weeks apart while participant is of sound mind for instance). You are right about hot potato. They are far more interested in ass covering than helping.

One of the big issues is who pays for it? People are already fed up with taxes and now you have the money to go help these unfortunate souls and the inevitable argument comes up….

‘Why do I work my ass off to let these leeches take take take’.

Always happens. Even now I have plenty of friends who consider this ridiculous that people come here as refugees and are given things earned by them. ‘It’s not fair’.

I've always thought Canadians should get taxed less the longer they have been Canadian. Someone who's family has been here since 1800 had made a significant contribution to the Country when compared to a new arrival..

So "old stock Canadians"? That didn't go over so well for harper as I recall.

So you're fine with no extended benefits (governments can't afford that nonsense) for people who have contributed for 10-20-40+ years until they reach 65 but are fine with handing them out to anyone who steps off a plane without ever having contributed?

I'm not ok with you putting words in mouth. I'm just saying the old stock line got harper into trouble.
Also you make it sound like the gov gives you nothing until you turn 65. That's just silly.

I'm not ok with your inferred slur by putting Old Stock Canadians in quotations.

The government has never "given" me anything. To think they have is just silly.

Well ok then. Old stock Canadians was a quote from harper hence the quotation marks.
To steal a bit from Monty Pythons "Life of Brian" didn't the government give you an education, healthcare, and roads just to name a few.

Does the dollar amount on your paycheque equal the number of hours you worked times your rate of pay?

I knew this was coming. How much income tax were you paying when you were in kindergarten?

I'll bite. My parents weren't educated here, yet they paid taxes towards education. We'll call it even on my education. No, wait. I never had kids, and I've been paying taxes towards education for years, so now I'm paying for your kids to be educated........when CUPE/OTF aren't marching around and chanting out front with signs. AFIC I'm in the black now. Should I start in on the return I'll get from all "my" CPP donations compounded over the years now?

You're not paying for my kids. They're not in school.
I don't know what AFIC and I don't really care. I'm bailing.

I'm not so sure I like the reference, 'old stock' . It's a common term in French Canadian vocabulary (vieille souche).

Nobody heard a dog whistle until JT cleverly suggested that's what it was. Red meat for the Liberal media, CBC, Star etc had fun with the comment.

I thought he was referring to the community of old Canadians who imbibed on an bygone favorite.
