Hiring Immigrants instead of " our own people "

Foreign electricians cant cut it for the most parts so im not for fast tracking doctors.

My grandfather came here with nothing, managed to bring over his wife and 5 kids a year later and died in a paid off $600,000 house. He did it without any help.
Most immigrants are harder working, and happier with less so I see that as an advantage for them in the work force to begin with. Not for any special treatment, should be best man for the job.

Oddly enough, my wife asked some questions about my grandmother and I recalled her hard life after coming here from eastern Europe with my grandfather. She never had the $600K house but raised a brood of kids that did OK.

If you suggested to someone today that they had to match her workload they would laugh in your face.

We need imigrants because the western birth rate is too low. We don't like them because they make us think.

maybe the immigrants that live in peterborough are smarter than the locals, know the difference between there and their and thats why they get the jobs?

Hot topic in Peterborough right now, and I think it's ridiculous. Peterborough has a staggering 11% unemployment rate, the worst in all of Ontario. Now they are looking at giving companies tax breaks on hiring immigrants instead of the people that were born and raised here and put in there dues. Not only are a lot of companies contracting there work overseas, now you have them just kicking out existing employee's and bringing in new " Canadians " just to save some money.

Bwa ha...I actually have insight into this having worked in medical schools in several countries and teaching the pre-med guys here. If you think Canadian doctors are the cream of the crop internationally you are more than sadly mistaken. From what I know I would stick with a doctor from most countries outside of Canada before I see a Canadian doctor. Sad but true. The education system in some subjects in this country is sadly lacking.

When I hire people for my company, I'll make sure to hire only immigrants, just to annoy you.

No offense, but if you're going to criticize someone on their English at least get your own grammar right.

Offense or Offence hmmm

:happy3:

The spelling offence with a letter c is standard in nearly all varieties of English, except in the US, where offense with an s is the norm. To use this second spelling in a non-US context is therefore likely to be considered incorrect.

I can quote online dictionaries too! http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/offense

Definition of OFFENSE
4
a : the act of displeasing or affronting

No offense Englishj, but you're grasping at straws here.

Let's get back on topic shall we?

I'm posting a news article, how is that starting a fight ?. Terrorism and Immigration are probably the biggest concerns North America has at the moment, and to the general populace, they go hand in hand.
Treat immigration as a consern is the dumbest thing ive heard this year, you do realize that without immigration Canada will seize to exist...

Heil dead German (technically dirty immigrant from Austria) dude! I'm putting on a Casper costume and burning a wooden plus-sign! IBTL

I don't think its a good policy, it needs to be broader in scope. Mac is just pandering to potential voters. I looked at the last provincial election and found that, he won basically because of Toronto. I lazily counted at least 20 different ridings in the city that went to the Liberals. Toronto has over 50 percent of it's population born outside of Canada. So yeah, he's kissing ***. I'll still be voting Liberal though; currently, they are the lesser of evils, and, not Neo-Con.

Never said it was, but I dont think it should be you were a doctor, ok, your a doctor here.

Ive seen electricians nearly burn down buildings with extremely dangerous work practices. Now electrical isnt something to be taken lightly, but im sure most of us hold healthcare to a much higher standard.

They took our jobs!
Immigrants tend to take the jobs that many "proud" Canadians tend to shun as being beneath them.

In any case, a line in the OP's referenced article states that the program is aimed at a specific group of "immigrants".
"I recognize the tax credit for new Canadians is really designed to meet a specific problem in Toronto," he said, adding that it's for new Canadians who have been in this country for at least five years.
At least five years? New Canadians? Sure sounds like they're referring to naturalized Canadian citizens, by which time they should be referred to as Canadians and not as "immigrants" as if they had just stepped off the boat.
