Hiring Immigrants instead of " our own people "

speaking from personal experience, it was the canadian-trained ******* doctor (queen's university) at the hospital emerg who nearly killed a loved one, and meanwhile it was a foreign-trained (south africa) doctor that saved her life.

we found out the hard way that the canadian medical association protects its **** ups--the same idiot actually went on to completely miss a cancer diagnosis (until it was too late) and other screwups. not sure there's as much accountability as you might think. . .

so maybe u should move to south africa if u have a problem with canadian healthcare. We are all very blessed and priviledged to live in this country.don't whine, pack up your **** and get the **** out

Yes... pointing out that a Canadian doctor can make mistakes means they should move to south africa... really?

Besides, being allowed to criticize our institutions is another one of those privileges that makes this country so great.

Wouldn't that qualify as wrongful dismissal? You might have been to give them hell with the help of our dear HRT.
Not being a hipster, I have no clue what the beverage is. Can you give a second clue?
Yeah, but the golden rule of the game is "Person with the deepest pockets will wins"...

health care is free in this country, and is incredible compared to a lot of other places worldwide.people make mistakes,no doubt.my cousin lives in south africa, his house looks like an army barracks, and he's got a fully automatic machine gun at the ready

It isn't free.

I will agree that it is an incredible country. :wav:

May i ask what other country you've lived in for > 18 months after your 20th birthday and why you think they're not so great?

No offense/offence (whatever floats your boat) Just Curious about where you draw the line of greatest VS not so great.

I will add a true conclusion to this thread (THIS COUNTRY IS BUILT ON IMMIGRANTS)

Do u agree?

This country is built on principles. Freedom, democracy, peace, harmonization of peoples. Welcoming people from other lands is one of them but over the last few decades it's come at the expense of many of our other principles. Integration is far from the minds of some immigrants, some openly hate Canada. There were no handouts in the past, hardwork and dedication with the mindset that Canada granted each immigrant a HUGE favour in letting them in was what made Canadian immigrants prosperous. Look around, many of them own successful businesses without HELP.

White/brown/black/chinese CANADIAN folk who've been around for a few generations aren't against immigrants. But with every person that steps off the boat/plane in an age where being a "Canadian" isn't a requisite for being a citizen, how long before our way of life becomes the same way of life people are fleeing from?

I think it's pretty simple concept, work hard and integrate. Stop trying to make drastic changes, stop turning areas of our country into mini versions of the hellholes people fled from and leave your BS at the border.

well,if you have a beef with something in this country their are proper ways to go about making your voice heard ,and if you have a lot of people to back you,you may exact a change!

My father was born in Scotland,so I have dual citizenship.I spent some time overseas, working, travelling, and although I had a great time, had many great times, and met alot of great people,CANADA is my home.I don't know how to differentiate this place fromthe next, all I know is this is a great country, there is no line,it just is what it is!

not sure if that qualifies your statement of this country being the greatest. I've lived in Australia, USA, and been in Europe for several months at a time. They all have their advantages.

One experience does not make it a fact.
I am not saying the Canadian system is perfect

i am not speaking in generalities. i am citing facts. . .my lived experience.

my point was to suggest that canadian-trained doctors are not the be-all, and that their accountability under our system may be overstated. i wish i was wrong about the facts i've written, but i'm not.

i was born and raised in this country and love this country more than any other. . .but i'm not close minded enough to think that i should expect canada to remain a monolith, as though the canada of my childhood should stay the canada of today and tomorrow. totally unrealistic, and ignorant of the importance of change and, more significantly, the vital role that continued immigration plays in canada's economic growth and success.

so maybe u should move to south africa if u have a problem with canadian healthcare. We are all very blessed and priviledged to live in this country.don't whine, pack up your **** and get the **** out

if this happened in any other country that i lived in, my point would still be valid, and still remain the same.

the fact that i pay an ***-load of taxes each year to subsidize our health care system means i have the prerogative to voice a complaint, if you choose to go ahead and ignore the fact that the doctor in question was pathetically incompetent, and yet still practices medicine in our system. no, we should just stay silent and let him go on putting people's lives in his hands.

unlike other professions, cma investigations are closed-door, unpublicized affairs. . .for all you know, he could be the gp of someone you love, or maybe even you.

. . .better hope not.

WRONG AGAIN, this is the best country ever

the problem isn't that we're hiring immigrants. I'll work beside anyone from anywhere as long as they're not annoying, don't smell and don't constantly ask me stupid questions (there's a guy like that at work and he's not an immigrant). the problem is we are sending too many jobs over seas. outsourcing with in the country is one thing. sending manufacturing to other countries...

who makes the computers the government uses?

who makes the computers the army uses?

who makes the components for our weapons systems? comms units?

where are our tires for our armed forces vehicles made?

who makes the control systems (from the chips and up) for out jets?

should our allies drag us into war with this nation.... who will supply us with replacement parts?

...they were a doctor back can be useful here. Instead of fast tracking them we have them driving around in taxis.
Well, I certainly hope that they are better at doctoring than they are at driving. Unless the goal is to build up a huge number of injuries with their cabs, then be allowed to practise medicine to clear the backlog.
Seriously, the cab-driving-doctor has become a cliche. Has anyone here ever personally met such an individual? One who is fully qualified to practise but is held back only because of his/her immigrant status? Because I just spent the day at a Toronto hospital undergoing tests and every single person I dealt with was from somewhere else - Poland, Asia, India, Carribean - and every single one of them was exceedingly competent and professional. So I have trouble believing that the medical system in Ontario is actively blocking qualified people from working.
I'm the son (and brother) of immigrants, so I know a little of what people face when they arrive, especially 60 years ago. But one thing my parents did that no longer seems popular is they lined up jobs in their respective professions before they got here.

Cab driving doctor? No. I did know a computer assembler, though, who was an industrial process engineer, fluent in 4 languages (two of which are our official languages), etc., who was working for $8.00/hr. He was no dummy. Not a paper tiger. I made him my assistant and when he finally left, a couple of years later, he went on to make $10K a year more than me.
