HighSide at Mosport - Aug 17

Most of the time 1080p but I would settle for 720

Put yourself into their boots for a second.250/300cc riders can't pass a 600 or a 1000cc bike on the straights, so where else are they going to pass you? Obviously the girl has a lot more speed and experience if she is overtaking you at mosport. Tough for the little bikes to get into the right groups at a TD. Carrying so much more speed in the corners but being out motored on the straights. Think of it as learning experience, you need to get familiar with being overtaken as you move up the ladder.

That's immaterial when the rules of the group are "no passing in corners."

Then end the moaning, get on with life, sit on your couch and watch your favourite Disney movie on blue-ray again.

So we're done here?

It was done after it happened. But this brought out some interesting views and stand points. But yes. Its done and my track etiquette will better reflect the reality vs the rules.

I have never done a track day, nor any roadracing. But just from following these threads over the last few years, I have learned that Thursday before a race weekend is a practice day with a track day thrown in. Not the place for me to start.
I've also come to the conclusion that if I ever do join, it'll be on a 300 or an sv at most. I don't care how fast I can get down the straight, it's all about the corners and learning new skills.

Look on the bright side. No one went down. Sometimes this happens. We have all misjudged a pass at some point it happens. We then try to find the person we got close to, to apologize. Two gtam's crashed together in red group, it happens. Those two riders did not get upset because they are both aware it was not on purpose.

He came in at a speed and pulled a risky pass not only putting himself at risk but Ethereal as well. Simple as that. Green group guys. Don't forget that. We here to learn safely and responsibly. What this guy did was irresponsible.

For the 3rd time, I'm agreeing that it was unnecessary and was a sketchy pass.

Yes!! Come hang with us!! You'll be passing on the inside in no time ;-) haha. Just make sure you keep the horn on. You can beep-beep at Ethreal so he knows you're coming.

Serious though. Grab a small bike and come to Shannonville.

If that's your take away from this discussion I feel bad for you.

His response is natural in the face of a bunch of replies defending the indefensible.

I'm really disappointed in a lot of people here I expect should know better, and it's not about the pass. Everybody, except one or two, agrees it was a tight move that the racer should have avoided. And those one or two people are simply wrong, fine, people are allowed to be wrong. But then all the racers here rally around the guy who passed because he's a member of the racing 'clan', by trying to deflect responsibility onto Ethereal, who did nothing wrong and shouldn't modify anything about his approach to track days.

Look, the guy who made a pass may be an awesome friend, first guy to lend a hand, always has a good word to say about others, and always picks up the beer tab or whatever. That's not being disputed. But he made a mistake and there's no reason not to be honest about that, we all make mistakes. Stop pointing the finger at Ethereal. There's no lesson here for him "don't do track days before a race" because those who should already know that lesson allowed him and other rookies to lap with racers. If that's a hard a fast rule, then why did RC allow him to run?

That's the missing resolution here. I find it interesting that Pro 6 ran Mon-Wed events but RC took over for Thursday. In my experience Pro 6 set very high standards for themselves and they always reach those standards. RC serves the community well but they're known to cut corners sometimes to make a buck. Perhaps the only safe approach is to not run an open track day the day before a race weekend? And why would anyone let rookies run in the same session with racers other than to make a buck? Why would anyone let rookies 'learn a lesson' about the danger of sharing the track with racers by letting them share the track with racers!?!

If someone ever gets injured or killed because of this, which is likely, RC better be ready to lawyer up.

What should my take away be? That I was polite and drove a climbing pace waiting to safely pass and respect the rules? Then get rammed about how much faster the other rider was so his pass was okish/I need to be less "Butt hurt" about it. Had I done the same thing he was doing I would not have been stuck in the 1:50s for lap times. I like to do 2 laps before I start picking up my pace and the new tires felt a lot different then then my last ones. I do not have the trust yet you all have in your tires. Seems your judging based on my skill level seen here in the limited laps shown and even suggested selling my bike. I will always give my fellow riders a safe space and make every effort to go home with myself and bike intact. The other rider passed me after the strait when we got a flagged and I slowed, he kept going. Sure all this sounds like excuses to most here but these are all things I am learning and what I take away from it.

Which thread are you reading?

We've all pretty much agreed that the pass was tight and doesn't comply with green group rules. I don't know the guy who made the pass. I'm not rallying around anyone.

Why does the OP keep whining? Some mitigating circumstances have been explained to him. Some reasons why have been offered to him.

Not sure what there is left to still argue or complain about.

I don't blame either rider for that pass. They were placed in a scenario where it was inevitable and neither rider could do much about it. This one is entirely on the organizers and their quest to get the most money for their track time (at the expense of safety in this case). Combining super experienced riders running at 9/10's or 10/10's of what their bike is capable of and much less experienced riders running at 5/10's of what their bike is capable of is a recipe for disaster (especially when at various points in the track, each will have high closing speeds on the other).

PS. Video overlay was really cool.

I only quoted you as a launching point for my post, I'm not disagreeing with you. Everything I have to say is in there, to answer your question specifically: even those who acknowledge the racer's error still lay some blame on Ethereal (not you) when he did nothing wrong. I think it's understandable that he'll keep posting to defend himself.

Has anyone at Rider's Choice seen this video?

2 issues as I see it; anyone with a race license shouldn't be in green group unless they are instructing, if there was inflexibility for switching people between groups then that should be addressed even if it means bumping someone else down, and passing rules weren't being applied.

Yes.

And the r3 rider was sent to John as the marshall called it in.

The explanation was given that it was a misjudgement on closing speed.

Brian, you really need to explain your no racer aspect in green. The conclusion that the pass was inappropriate has been concluded. (By most anyway)

It makes no difference what so ever that he had a race Licence or not. Track day guy or race Licence holder. It was wrong.

By the way, the explanation at Riders meeting was "pass with care" not "no passing" or "no passing in corners" .

I was there Brian so I know. You keep harping on it and I didn't see you standing there on Thursday morning.
