Help me diagnose this scary chatter at TMP Turn 2

even with a slipper clutch you should ease in the rev match via feathering or blipping...not dumping the clutch.

When I took FAST, they told me not to bother with blipping as all the rental bikes had slipper clutches installed on them. But if your bike doesn't have a slipper, you really dont have much of a choice.

I have 12 yr old fat kid hands. During both Fast 1&2, back in June of 2000 (before most OEM slipper clutches even existed) , I was told that I was no longer allowed to blip by Francis Martin after he watched me for a while even after adjusting the lever.......he asked me to remove my gloves, and told me I just needed to learn to be very smooth with clutch operation on downshifts. My hands are so small that I can't aggressively brake and blip at the same time. Not enough finger reach, and when I do, the front of the bike bobs up and down as I increase and decrease braking pressure as I blip...this can result in disaster. So I learned to smoothly slide clutch back out while braking, even from redline......It's been working for me going into a 3rd race season. None of my racebikes have a slipper. Most of the guys I race with blip, but it causes me more headaches than it would prevent, so I simply don't do it.
Basically, if you don't have a slipper, your left hand can become one.

Your slipper clutch isn't slipping. Did you swap a 750 wave spring under it? The stock one is way too stiff and barely allows any slip. Also, did you drill a few extra holes in the basket to allow better oiling of the plates and slipper mechanism? This is a known problem.

To both questions: yes and yes. I swapped a wave spring from a 750, and also drilled the three extra holes. :(

I think you gotta rev match. I had that happened to me once when I was too excited being first time on the track, and forgot to blip, freaked me out.

would kill for a slipper again.

I have an STM I could be talked out of for the right money....seeing as I don't even like my R6 anyways, it will probably never get installed.....along with the new in the box quickshifter as well,LOL

Reminds me, i need my slipper clutch tool back lol

Get the new one since it will come fresh and with a spring for your weight/needs/specifications.

Don't get a used one unless it comes with a receipt showing it was serviced in the last few months.

I just saw this. Unweighting the rear end a lot with brakes on, slipper clutch will likely not engage especially with low RPMs because there's not enough drag on teh clutch. So I agree with the assessment and I had one of these bikes for 2 years and had the same thing happen to me on occassion... the light springs in the front definitely do not help because they are diving so much and unweighting the rear of the bike.

This one seems good and description says it's set up for my weight as well, but it's from an 05 750, not sure about fitment issues. I know for sure the 03 gsxr 1000 are longer, but maybe with the help of shims..hmm

Yeah, exactly my line of thought. I wasn't really planning to upgrade the shock right now, so I don't know, it just seems like a really good deal for a new shock, and might regret later for not taking it..

I sent off my forks for springs change and service, so hopefully next time I'm out there and having more understanding of how it's supposed to work, I won't have this problem anymore.

be sure to call HArd Racing. Their website is always wrong.
I ordered and paid for the same model Ohlins for my 929, as it was on blowout for $850 as well....waited over a month and it never arrived. I called to find out what was up, and they said oops, we looked in the warehouse and turns out we sold that a long time agao and didn't update our website. I explained that I ordered it in plenty of time for an upc oming race, but now was stuck since more than a month had gone by since I paid......they said they'd be willing to get me a Penske instead...for an extra $400, and I would have to wait another 5 weeks. I took the refund.

Lol!! Thanks for the heads up!

I had to remove the rear wheel today to change the tire, and what do you know---the bearings on both sides are almost shot (the bearing on the carrier is good). Not seized, but very rough, and not evenly so throughout the revolution. I will replace them (once I figure out how to hammer the old ones out), but I wonder if that also has something to do with the problem I was having.

Wow, good thing you found out before a nasty crash :(
