You know, it's one thing if the police do actual prevention and focus their efforts on things that would improve conditions on the highways by ticketing the drivers that create hazards by towing unsecured loads, driving slow in the fast lane and cutting people off. But most times our experiences are different; we see police show up with big mouths and HUGE attitudes that only just make the situation worse most times. It reminds me of old movies of the Gestapo showing up on the scene. I don't see how announcing that they are about to concentrate their scrutiny on the driving public for the next week because they are more likely to do something wrong than some crack head walking into an LCBO and buying 3 40's of whiskey. Its not a guarantee that he's going to do something wrong and neither is just driving a car on a highway in the next week going to make it more likely that I am going to do something wrong.
It reminds me of when the Border guards at Canada Customs decide to have a ZERO hour. They just pull in 100 vehicles and search them and harrass the people in them and make them feel like criminal and say insulting things. This happened to me and some friends in January. I lived in Niagara for 20 years so I'm used to these losers attitudes and GOD complexes.
My buddy's girlfriend who's never been in trouble was scared, no biggie but its funny, she said "why are we being pulled over?", I said "no reason, but it proves that they have no idea what they're doing if they're pulling over the likes of us, if they knew what they were doing, they wouldn't waste their time".
This reminds me of the indiscriminate ways of the OPP when they threaten the driving public: THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY'RE DOING. If they had an idea, they'd do something a lot more useful like pick out the drivers merging onto the 401 doing 50 km/h and towing trailers with stuff falling out or going by construction areas and tell the contractors to stop spilling dirt, rocks and crap all over the roads near their projects or find the overloaded concrete trucks spilling stones and concrete all over town. If there was a bit more concern for the community and better control of their attitudes, people would think a bit better of the police than they do.
If you're in the law enforcement profession and you wonder why you never get a "thanks", the reasons are above. The Police have done everything that they can to make the public fear them whenever they get the opportunity. Announcing BLITZ's, G20, Frying an immigrant in the Vancouver airport and lying about it then being found guilty of obstruction of justice (Monty Robinson) and the list goes on. Blitz's are just one more example of how not to represent a police force that is actually interested in helping the public. If you're going to do it, why announce it to the public like you're out to punish them?

They should invent a new charge and call it "Passive Driving" or "DWOB" (driving without brain). This would be for drivers who pull stupid moves like merging onto the 401 doing 50 km/h and similar dumb moves.

of course its not, thats just illogical. Speed doesn't cause accidents, pulling out infront of traffic, slamming on the brakes (like assassin said about see a cop), etc..
Anyone who says this isn't a cash grab, just stop for a second and think about what they are doing during this blitz vs what that could/should be doing with OT staff on a long weekend.

many many years ago when I got my Drivers Licence in NZ, we used to have traffic cops sit in the car with us as the examiner. I will never forgot him telling me the only thing I needed to work on was being faster when merging into traffic... which I have no problem with now.
Maybe its a beginner thing, but needs to be addressed especially here on the 400 series.
My belief the reason why there are so many bad drivers here, is that 95% of vehicles are automatics. With a manual car, Its hard to hold a cellphone, coffee etc while driving. When I switched to a automatic car here, I couldn't believe how much freedom you have to be distracted!!!
Of course they will target speeding vs all the other crap people do to cause our roads to be unsafe. Why? Because it's the easiest infraction to catch! Think about it, if you speed, it's not usually for a second or two, it's a sustained event that easy for the police to nail you on, they can pace, radar, laser, or spot with a plane. Unsafe lane change - done in a second. Unsafe left turn, it's over in a heartbeat, and unless a cop has some ridiculous good fortune, they will never know about it unless they clobber somebody. Pick and choose where you speed, holiday weekend coming up, and you are hauling *** on a 4xx highway, expect issues.

It seems funny to me that when a cop catches you speeding, they have to say that "they saw a vehicle exceeding the speed limit in their estimation and they then checked the vehicle speed with radar to confirm"......goes right along with their "expert ability" to estimate speed which I think is total BS. There's no way that on a highway in heavy traffic that they can say that for certain, not to mention the old line "I didn't lose sight of the vehicle", hahahaha!
I can guarantee that their expert estimation of my speed would be a higher number than their Radar Gun says once the officer has a word with me on the side of the road, but that's my own choice.
I think the only way that this sort of evidence should be given is with a video clip of the incident with the speed of the vehicle displayed as the vehicle approaches. Show that video in court then I'd say, fine to whatever they deem is fitting for a charge. This technology exists already and I'm sure that the insurance companies would gladly foot the bill for the equipment!

I followed behind him (Behing another car aka speed dummy) doing 149km/hr the whole way home and everytime a car would move out of his way (As he would ride the cars *** in the fast lane till they moved) he would accelerate and start pulling away from us (About 160-170km/hr) and we would catch back up while he was waiting for the cars to move.
He was going no where important but still going fast enough were anyone else would get the HTA172 charge.

Cash grabs you can't avoid...like taxes etc. I might be wrong...but I'm pretty sure you can avoid paying any cop any money but I just can't remember how for the life of me...it'll come to me soon.

they were testing their new baiting technique. They'll do the same thing this weekend while there's a spotting plane above you or other unmark cars ready to swoop onto any followers.
Well if that was so I would have been hook, lined and sinkered lol.
I did leave a speed dummy car in between us in case he tried to pull the "I was pacing you from the front"
lane splitting and filtering are two different things, and no they won't pull you over for filtering, because I’ve seen them filter traffic in Toronto myself and I followed one last year! lane splitting is when cars are moving at traffic flow and you cut through them yes thats dangerous!!!
filtering is when all cars are stopped at traffic light, alot of the people who do get harassed by cops rarely for this is because they were most likely "splitting" while cars were also moving, they don't bother when all cars are stopped in traffic and you filter because there is no "exact" law for it that says simply "filtering is illegal" so it's a huge hassle for them to ever get a conviction or get the right charge.
I know this is true for motorcycle cops because in summer 30+ heat they are not going to stick in traffic like a car for half an hour! i've seen them bend the rule too if i may sa so.lol... and for those of us who have air cooled bikes we have a a very good excuse when and IF we ever do get pulled, but franckly never been stopped for filtering ever by a cop! and you have to be smart about it too just with everything in life, lets say you are filtering in stopped traffic, and you see a cop car two or three cars ahead, just stop, where you are, and merge when the lights go green back into the lanes, if you pass a marked cop like that, something is wrong with the riders visions and shouldn't be riding in the first place! if its and unmarked one, those are not hard to find either, the odd chance you pass one, you already are up ahead get going fast and be on your way.
For everyone talking about the blitz issue, it's not to scare people, it's to warn the public of the excessive presence, because the public has the right to know what and why so many police forces and vehicles will be present and for what our tax money is going to be spent for, this also helps people save them selves from getting into big trouble and tickets. Otherwise people would be complaining on why so much police presance is there if we were not told about it, because lets face it people just find a way to complain about everything, and this is not just one week they "really" work, infact im one of those people who rather they be less on the streets even on a "normal" day so i can have some skilled and sensible fun, there are tooo many traffic unit cop cars out there! more cops dosen't mean better drivers, just means, more people getting caught being stupid, i rather be a safe, experienced rider who likes to have fun and not get caught with a fine all the time for something silly like using hand signals over my indicators or one dim bulb, because people feel the need to increase cops all the time because stupid careless people can't stop being who they are naturally and complainers, whiners and morons want an organisation they can pay to get rid of them, while the normal people in between get the stick from both ends.
Cops are not all the same, the everyday cops you see are TRAFFIC UNIT cops it's their job to enforce and fine people, there are cops in other divisions you never hear about or see because they are doing their jobs, investigating, narcotics, murder, homicides etc I never understood why people can't see this simple thing.
next time you get a ticket look at the bottom unit, it will say the cop is from a "traffic unit", if he was a homicide cop or detective or any other division and type of cop he would not even pull you over unless it was involved in his line of work, it’s that simple.lol all cops have the same basic authority but, all are split into specific devisions and jobs types and thats why you will find a traffic unit cop doing many different things, like triffic, murder investigation, but anything other then traffic they are just the temporary security till the real cops show up for that specific job.
also cops are NOT there to serve and protect people or you, their job is and has always been from the start of this type of force to, catch, arrest and charge people for breaking the law or rules, so if you get off, consider yourself extremely lucky, because they don't have to let you off it’s their job to charge you and fine or arrest you weather you and i like it or not, we did this to ourselves.
ever have a problem and you go to the cops and they can't help you until you feed them the exact proof or evidence and information of a suspect or problem, seems like you do all the leg work and they take the cake for that one too. again, it's not their job to protect and serve but to arrest and procecute, hope you all see the picture, they just make it seem like that, one person being arrested and charged fo someone looks like serving and protecting to the rest. "kill one person at a time, and no one will care, they will think its for "their" protection... when you are actually killing "THEM" ... the same people you are serving and protecting.... one by one"
The simple solution is for each human being to start taking their own responsibility, to start driving safer, start riding safer, and care about others, help others, protect others, don't fight or hate each other, if everyone pulled their own weight WE WOULD'NT NEED COPS! Or any other government or organizational help. People like to hate on God, but he gave us simple rules and commandments to follow, and if you read them it will make sense that he was saving us from this exact destruction we all are heading towards, everyone is complaining and fighting each other, never to really see the bigger picture. We are the problem, and only we can fix ourselves, no cop, no government force will or can protect us from our own evils, the smart evil selfish ones just use this knowledge against everyone to get richer.
