Have you ever thought about racing?

Maybe so, but I'm far from the only guy who has been around Shannonville for more than 15 years who has the opinion. There's a lot of us that don't go to Pro track days and who would prefer not to run it for races. Steve Crevier comes to mind, is that a name you've heard before?

So...have you ever thought about racing or what?

For every person I've met that doesn't like Pro, I have met ten that don't like Nelson. It's a good track to test on and spectate, but it's terrible to race on.

Right, I wouldn't want to race on Nelson.

And yes I have raced. And I thought of doing it again this year... thinking of entering my AM SBK in a couple of races, actually. My main problem is time, as the events take up three days each time (minimum).

why 3 days?

if you've been doing it for 15 years, just show up and ride, it's not like you've gotta figure out the track(s)

show up Sunday Morning and start at the back,, it makes for an interesting day!

I have done the show-up-on-sunday thing before. I ride half by feel, which is just how it is... the more time I get on a track, the faster I go and then it fades... regardless your point is well received, that's what I'll do if I decide to enter some heats this year. Not looking for points anyways, so what's the big deal, amirite?

Even if you just do Sat and Sun and treat qualifying as practice.. you'll still get a good 6 sessions in before it's time to go racing.

I race every day I get on my bike . . . .

Very limited space available for the 'Try the Track' organized ride at lunch, vintage fans need to pre-register at trythetrack@gmail.com

The highlight of Canada’s classic andvintage motorcycle racing brings vintage thunder to the famed Mosport Park –now named Canadian Tire Motorsport Park – the weekend of August 17-19. This crown jewel in the Vintage Road Racing Association (VRRA) season is the third of four events in the 2012 series.

The track’s name change is more than just for advertising; “The Tire” has given an ongoing financial commitment and support to the half-century-old classic venue. There have been millions of dollars of improvements since new owners purchased the track last year. Resurfacing, better competitor access, improved sightlines, better spectatoraccess via track bridges, and much more have hugely improved the racing scene at Canada’s most storied race venue.

There’s a lot happening in addition to theracing, which starts on Friday with an endurance contest and continues with practice, qualifying races, and finals right through to Sunday afternoon. Camping is openly available through the 162 hectare (400 acre) site, with lotsof washrooms and an excellent snack bar/restaurant in the paddock area.
Plus, if you’re staying Saturday night oneof the racers, Tyler Wilson, and his band the will be playing to entertain you.

Manufacturers will be on hand with demorides available on new models, and if you bring your own bike there you can“Try the Track” hours available Saturday and Sunday at lunchtime, sponsored byPro 6 Cycle. For $20 you can take an organized ride on the track, proceeds going to Big Brothers Big Sisters. See the VRRA website for more details. Vintage fans need to pre-register at trythetrack@gmail.com

The racing and the track brings the biggest road racer turnout of the year in Canada (over 175 racers, many with multiplebikes) and welcomes many American riders making the trek across the border. It’s also invariably got the biggest sidecar turnout of the season, surely one of the most entertaining forms of motorsport you’ll ever see.

TheVRRA is the only motorcycle association in Canada devoted solely to classic and vintage road racing, and is the oldest such organization in North America. Members range from casual racers out to preserve their classic machines to highly-competitive Pro racers who still like to exercise their competitive talents in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Fun weekend with some very exciting racing despite smallish grids. The weather was relatively good!

Long track roundin 4 weeks!

riding by feel, riding by repetition?

What can I say... I did the same in cars, some people go fast strictly by braking markers, etc. and I do it half by feel. I have some lap records in a car to brag about but nobody cares anyways, so ... the thing is I rarely can just show up at a track and ride on the sharp end of the fast group, even if I've been there many times. Give me some time, I don't need a lot, and I can go at a decent pace - always bearing in mind that I have to work on Monday. It's just not my strong point, and I'm sure there are even some professionals that share that with me (I've talked to some).

I wanna try it one day. Maybe next season i will enroll in the FAST school.

Do it. My first race this year in round 2 there were 5 of us noobs, and it totally blows away any track day experiences you may have had in the past. Great crowd to hang with, and very helpful with any questions or problems. If you know the track config, you can save money on registration and tires by showing up on Saturday/Sunday.

Have been dying to get back out more this year, but a low side in June (turn 4 at SMP Long) blew most of my budget and put me out of commission for about a month with a deep friction burn on the back of my left shoulder. Melted my under-gear into my skin!

Guess my point though is get out there early in the season, or you'll spend the rest of the fall/winter months kicking yourself waiting so long!

And don't let anyone tell you you need a new(er) bike to do well. Mine's 10 years old now, stock engine only suspension mods that, compared to today's new stockers, aren't a huge improvement. At round 2 I qualified 5th, fell back to 12th when a bike ahead of me blew the start, and finished 4th. Had a great battle with a couple of riders that made my year.

If you ever went to camp as a kid, it's like your first jump off the big rock into the lake. You knew the other kids were having a blast, but it took you all your courage to climb up there and go for it. But if you're like me, once you've done it you end up climbing that embankment till the sun goes down and the adults are threatening consequences.

JUMP!!!

Totally!!! Its set in stone now. dont bail on me. Lol! Lets go to the moto show in january. Rogo said we can prbly get discount of the racer 5.
Why wait till next year, round four is soon approaching but there is plenty of time for round 5

Just do it
