Hating on riders - from a rider

... Those who don't grow up wil probably weed themselves out though, hopefully not at the expense of someone else.

...and to the point that was made already, those that don't grow up will probably weed themselves out.

Just to be clear.. when we say weed themselves out we mean become a road pizza right?

You can't teach common sense.

Obituary - Common Sense

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Aspirin, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student, but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.

He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know my Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm a Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

Yea, basically. Death or injury. Don't get me wrong, I wish death on no one... well, almost no one... just saying I think it's inevitable unless they wisen up or quit for other reasons. There are always those who will beat the odds though...

blah blah blah, I bought my bike to pose at Timmies, as did many of the other members on this site.... and when given the opportunity will rev the **** out of it to show how big my blue balls are. Move on, next topic please, that is all.

PS - Yamaha FTW!

I've got no statistics to back this up but maybe it's due in part to the increase in new ridership. Seems like a ton of people are hopping on bikes these last few years, myself included. Inexperience, excitement and a bit of immaturity are to be expected. Those who don't grow up wil probably weed themselves out though, hopefully not at the expense of someone else.

Agreed. Being a new rider I can attest to the fact that many of the other guys I know getting into riding this season are future Darwin award recipients. Also, idk what it is but guys on SS bikes seem determined to splatter themselves on my Lancer. If brake checking cars in the passing lane is your thing, you don't deserve to ride, and each time you do it I'm less inclined to hit the brakes.

Maybe they feel you're tailgating and use it as a tactic to get you to back off a bit?
I haven't been brake checked in a long time, but I also don't tail gate... And the only times I have been brake checked, I was likely making them uncomfortable with my distance.... Just sayin.

There's only so much I can slow down below the limit in the left lane before I start worrying about someone rear ending me. And this would apply if the riders in question didn't speed off after making me drop below 95 in traffic. Then not a week later, same highway another guy is lane splitting, almost takes himself out on my front right quarter, flips me the bird and does the same goddamn thing.

I'm not even 2 weeks into my first season and I already understand the GSX-R hate.

If I wanted to hang out with the guys, ride like an idiot, bounce my bike off the rev limiter I'd go to the track... I think if you're that awesome of a rider that you need to show it to everyone, go to the track where people that want to see you goon yourself off your bike will go and watch you be the retard you are. (yes, I'm calling myself a retard and a goon here since I spend every weekend at the track).

Ok in the dirt maybe (BIG maybe) but we don't need idiots on asphalt. Those are the guys that do stupid **** like wheelies down the straight, park it in the corner, burnouts in the pits, and make track riders look bad just like they make guys that hangout at timmies look bad.

We hate our "bad representatives" too. The guys that do the same stuff you described exist in our sport, but they get sorted out pretty quick. Either someone finds them in the pit and lets them know how to behave, or they get sorted out on the track.

What I meant by being a goon is doing things that you pull on the track that are "normal", but not something you would pull on the street. Alot of these show off on the road guys think they are fast riders, so that's why I say take it to the track, where it's more acceptable to go have some fun.

As another member pointed out, some cars do stupid things too. Don't like it and want to whine, take the bus or walk.

The difference being that if someone in a car does something stupid it becomes, "Those entitled jerks in their Euro cars" or "Those stupid Civic kids with their fart pipes" but if it's someone on a motorcycle, then it becomes "All those motorcycle riders are idiots." The public doesn't differentiate. Nor do police.

Yesterday, on the way home, I had a guy on a cruiser stay in a merge lane a little longer than he should have, so that he could get behind me in the blocking position; and understandable move. As the two of us were tooling along at maybe 50 Kmh (not a bad speed for the downtown section of The Gardiner", at rush hour) a guy on a sportbike lane split past us, at what looked to be 80+ Kmh. When he was gone it wasn't after him the cagers were looking in disgust, it was the two of us who were left behind.

When you're a member of a small and visible group it's the jackasses, who don't care, who screw EVERYONE over. And I see far too much of that, "I don't care what you think" attitude on here. It's the new sociopathy. It's all the rage, with the cool kids.

wasn't it a dumbass from Vancouver a little while back who posted a video going 300 on the highway while lane splitting through traffic??

well that sucks then because I'm probably getting hated on every time I'm on the road. The rare occasions I drive my old man's car I see people, mostly middle aged looking at me with the look that says "How the **** are you driving that car??"

Also if you look presentable and act respectfully despite your dumbass actions I think cops really do take that into consideration...I'll never forget flying through a residential area at about 10-11pm, 50 over and running a stop sign to catch a group ride I was late for. I got pulled over by a cop who was hiding off the side street when he managed to catch up and after looking over my bike which was very nice and clean and me wearing full leathers he asked why I was flying and running stop signs. I told him the truth and that I must not have seen the stop sign because I was so fast...
He looked over my license and insurance and said "Ride safe, and tell your buddies to stop for the police..."
I just as easily could have gotten impounded and had I looked like a stupid squid I'm sure I would have.

Actually, no, that's not what I meant. What I meant is that reckless behaviour eventually comes around, and usually people smarten up with time. Once the light comes on for them, they either settle down or they move on to another hobby.

I've heard it said that you start riding with an empty bucket of experience and a full bucket of luck, and the goal is to fill up the bucket of experience before the bucket of luck runs out. I know lots of people who look at that dwindling bucket of luck and make smarter choices.

I know what you meant, was just trying to keep the squidtards as far away as possible. Most don't listen on asphalt because thier older and don't need to (so they seem to think) where as its usually younger kids in the dirt doing stupid stuff that wake up when an older/faster rider tells them to smarten up.

+1.

Just last night, my riding group was heading home southbound on dvp and i was the sweep. Right after the junction at 401, i saw this gsxr screaming down the go bus lane cutting in front of the car behind me and squeezed himself into the back of the group. Then proceeded to do a 2-lane change and lane split between right lane and middle lane to pass a few cars. If you are reading this, your riding style nor your white icon vest didn't impress anybody. You rode like an a-hole tailgating my group as well.

lol!

You can't help some people, they'll hurt themselves if that's what it comes to. But how they ride is their business, if they don't hurt someone then what's your complaint... that you don't have the guts or the skills to do the same? I don't want to die, so I don't ride like that (most of the time, at least) and I don't ride with people who do. Some people make me shake my head, but it's their business, not mine...

I like your attitude; you're not out to save the world. I'd seriously buy you a drink considering how much everyone tries to shove their ***** into other ppl's ***** to "make them understand their ways" or "save the world"

I swear I've read this thread before...

Yes, it isn't your business, it's the government's. The government is a clumsy, irritable bear that takes wild swipes every time someone pokes it enough. This is why we're ensnared with licensing, insurance, regulations, constables and courts. HTA 172 can probably be redrafted to include a vehicle forfeiture clause if needed. Just send a few skilled, freedom loving motorists their way to make the case.

Ultimately, the cat's long out of the bag as far as attitude goes. I don't doubt we'll all be (pointlessly) arguing over the next legal swipe within the next couple of years.
