Has the city lost it's mind...

A full grown police officer couldn't subdue a 12yo girl without having to use a taser? Wtf kind of recruiting standards do Durham police have?
No win situation. Kid was apparently assaulting a teacher at the time (who ended up in hospital) and had stabbed a kid inside with scissors. Either go hands on and end up on the news slamming the out of control brat to the ground (most training is in how to beat people into submission without regards to their safety) or tase the kid and get on the news for that. Taser with followup medical attention is probably safer for the kid (and cop) than hands on.

Stick your finger in a live light socket and tell me if you want to do it again.

I wish electricity could be used to correct for every illegal, anti social or erroneous move.

Think about it. You get zapped for failing to signal, improper turn, fail to stop, everything.

Even if you just forget you get zapped. It would do wonders for your memory.

Politicians would hate it as it would dry up a lot of their revenue while frying their bacon.

The world needs more people zappers.

A taser is non person to person contact. It means no knee on the neck, no "He groped me" BS charge to muddy the waters in court. You've been Teslaed.

Just like grabbing the middle plug cap on a 500 H1 Kawi triple at idle, feel that CDI goodness!!

When my newborn son was in NICU it took 2 adults to properly hold him still while the 3rd would do inject or do whatever procedure we had to do.

The power of a berserk flailing kid is something to be reckoned with, the kid has more chances to injure themself (and blame you for it) than anything else.

On the surface it seems like a good call to me but I will reserve my final decision until (IF) more details come out.

The other options are a beat down until they stop resisting or some mythical talk them down... Bonus, the taser likely provided a bit of a lesson for the kid that they might not want to repeat.

I am sure the parents will be screaming that their little angel that is so sweet and never does anything wrong is the victim.

The option to bypass is the trash talk forum. Contribute to the tip jar, and you'll have access. All COVID threads go there as well as political threads.
I have contributed. Not sure why it's not reflected in my status, and I'm still restricted from Trash Talk.

That might be a little different - a baby doesn't have the brute strength to harm those around them, the restraint is used to make sure no harm comes when the doc stabs a tiny vein in a fragile patient.

I can't..... I really can't....... It hurts my brain that this is the new status quo.
WTF does race have to do with impregnating your daughter? The whole situation is a sh*tshow but come on.
....and more...

The guy rams a vehicle off the road and then approaches with with a chainsaw..... a fkn chainsaw. 6 prior convictions for violence. Gets five years.

That seems light, I hear you say. Why is that? Well, that's easy, first nations.

The judge also considered Augustine's Indigenousl background, referring to a Gladue report that outlines his community's history and how it has been affected by colonialism.

What can be done about repeat offenders?

It was a US thing but a teenage male robbed two gas stations hours apart and after the female clerks complied without any resistance, he shot them both in the face, killing them.

He was sentenced to two consecutive life terms. Four years into his sentence he killed a fellow prisoner by cutting his throat. I guess they hold him for another lifetime.

What the actual Fak? We were occupied by the Russians but you don’t see me going out ramming cars off the road.

Ludicrous. Our criminal system is a joke.

My son also came out of the womb, guts out (gastroschisis) and clasping the scalpel and i am not making this up... so it was for everyone's safety :P

But my daughter had to deal with a violent kid with her class... the EA got stabbed in the hand with scissors, the teacher got punctured in the hand with a pencil. The class was always on alert and had a safe word to evacuate the class when the kid would act up... and the principal once had to restrain the kid and principal got $hit from the mother because he "didn't do it properly"
So the taser...i can understand, sadly.

Our kids school has a padded closet. Some parents are appalled. I think it is a good thing if used appropriately. A quiet safe space where an out of control kid can exist while help comes. How they get the kids to the closet? Not sure. School doesn't talk about it. Thankfully, our kids haven't needed it.

Oh they had one too at that school. And they were denying it (specifically to that mother cause she was gonna complain). But the kid was talking about how he was put in there a few times and they were denying it lol.

But it's a space with no triggers where they cant harm others or cause self harm as easily.

When it`s come to stuffing a kid into a Gimp Box, things are past a fix. Back in `72-`73 we had teachers flail you with a yardstick, throw a hammer handle at you in metal shop or pick you up and slam you against a gym wall a few times....saw them all. Bring all that back and we`d likely see a difference in behavior in the current clownworld Canada. Kids understood actions had consequence.

That’s awesome. I remember having one at my middle school. It was called the ‘Reflecting Room’.

You were sent there to reflect, it replaced ‘the strap’, which only really worked till about grade 6.

We had a padded room as well for a student many years ago...we've turned it into a sensory room for students with ASD and any other child who requires a quiet calming place...a

A friend of mine has been punched several times since school began and she's had to evacuate the classroom on multiple occasions because of one child who loses control and throws chairs, etc around the room...no identification and no support...I've heard of one teacher who has 3 such students in her class and even though she has an EA, she too has been punched, spit at, chairs thrown, evacuations and one child even drew a picture of how they would kill her...and don't get me started on some of the behaviours I've heard about in the kindergarten realm where there can be up to 30 children with 2 adults...

But DoFo/Lecce both say there's no increase in violent incidences and they refuse to give us proper supports...

So, police having to use a taser on a 12 year old...good on them I say...

Things will only get worse if this doesn't get fixed and fixed now...

A friend was a high school teacher and retired early because one kid was acting up so badly he was about to punch the kid out. He didn't need the drama or consequences so quit. They lost a good teacher. The brat kid's parents were teachers.

It doesn't end in school. I was walking down the hall to a property manager's office and the guy walking in front of me was very polite, even holding the door for me. Once in the office he went from Jeckle to Hyde and verbally freaked out at the staff. Security came in and the guy left. There was no physical exchange but in conversation afterwards it came out that the guy's mother bought him a suite. We were betting that as soon as he left home she had her locks changed.
