Handgun opinions

Ya but think of all the work parties those crooks are missing out on haha!

Unfortunately its all male dominated, I don't think they are missing much. Come to think about it, most of my hobbies are a sausage fest :(

Sorry but you are wrong. You do not need to be on a team or compete. I am not a competative shooter and have never been one. I am as you say a recreational shooter. My ATT states from residence to any approved range in Ontario. The same goes for the rest of the recreational shooters that I know from the 2 clubs I belong to. Perhapes if yours is different it is due to what your specific club applied for. If that is the case I would be speaking to the person responsible for applying for the ATT's.

I'm not wrong. I'm obviously in a different club with different rules. That's why I mentioned there are two sets of rules for ATT's and the guy may or may not be under one or the other. So, it must be regional as you said.

My ATT states that I can transport to and from the above mentioned club which is FRPC in Kingston.

That's all.

If I want to transport to another club I need an autorization to do so.

So, YOU are not wrong but you aren't right in all regards.

I guess I'll say it again.... make sure you know the specifics of your club before assuming anything. I only posted this info in case someone gets caught out on assuming it's always any range in Ontario.

perhaps because you guys are in the GTA they give you the option to multiple clubs.

I too have an LTATT for all approved Ontario ranges. So does every other shooter I know.

D23 it sounds like you got jipped.

D23 I think if you look into it you will find that FRPC is your home club, the one that applies for the ATT on your behalf, and you are a member in good standing. However your ATT allows you to go any approved range in Ontario. They are all the same with the exception of the Instructor ATT, which allow even more rights for the purpose of instruction.
Call the CFO they will tell you the same thing.

+1

D23 you are the ONLY person I've ever heard of say that they are not authorized to transport to all approved ranges in ontario.

at Silverdale, all you have to do is show up with your restricted firearms (they're not "weapons" unless used against people) and permit, and you can shoot at their range for the daily fee. you don't need to be a member.

now if you're taking you restricted firearm to a gunsmith or an appraiser, etc., then that's a separate matter. you'll need a separate ATT for that. Also, if you're purchasing a gun, you need a separate ATT to take the gun from the store to your home first, even if that gun store is at the range (as TARGET is)

RockerGuy: there are quite a few women who are or are getting into shooting. It isn't a total sausage-fest

Must be some kind of error on mine then..?

From: My address
To: FRPC

This is on the bottom right hand corner of the ATT second last section under "Firearms may only be loaded....."

Sorry for the confusion. I retract all previous statements about point to point transport being a one club deal

Looks like I have some stuff to sort out today :(

I would be having a talk with your club secretary if I was you.

Perhaps you need a restricted long gun for an "all approved ranges" endorsement. It could be new a new policy of the CFO to tighten restrictions - start with the new shooters who don't know any better. Could you imagine the **** storm further restrictions on renewals would cause. Perhaps Hudak can do something for us if he wins the election.

I own both R Long gun and R pistol but at the time (three years ago) that I was issued the ATT I only had the pistols. Might be something to that.....

I sent an Email off to see if it's something to do with where I live or if it's a clerical error.

ok, another question for the experienced ones. If anybody has applied recently how long did it take for your RPAL to get approved? how about LTATT?

thanks again

PAL took a few months and just waiting for ATT now. I'll let you know how long that takes but they said 8-15 business days.

Haven't done it recently, but you can bet on waiting roughly 2-3 weeks for your LTATT.

RPAL about 2 months.

And if you're buying restricted firearms the transfer times vary wildly, but Ontario is by far the slowest province and I've waited upwards of a month for transfers to complete. It's non-sense.

My club processes ATTs in less than a week....actually, my last one expired just before a match I was hosting and I had a new one the next day. Helps to know the ATT person at your club.

Transfer times from what I read are the worst in Quebec. A restricted rifle transfer in Quebec can take longer than 6 months to complete. The longest I've waited in Ontario is 6 weeks, shortest being a day or two. Everyone should note though that the CFOs office in any province is completed useless, they should all be fired. Everything they do is already performed by the CFC in less than a day, the province performs a "second check" for no good reason. The provinces don't even have the authority IMO to regulate firearms, its a federal jurisdiction.

RPALs take a while to process, but at least you can track the progress online. Licensing is only going to get harder, now they are conducting telephone interviews I hear? Crazy....my application had references on it but they were never actually contacted.

Renewing an ATT vs getting a fresh one is different, not to mention the club doesn't actually do any more than place a call or fax in an 'application' on your behalf. Also, there aren't a ton of clubs in Ontario and the folks who work at the CFO tend to know the people at the ranges by first name... in my experience, anyway. They can get stuff done quickly when it's a renewal or a 'special request' from existing members. But new RPAL holders should budget a few weeks to get their LTATT, IMO.
