On the day GTAM was hacked last Smail Max posted on his facebook around 130 other forum sites he took over as well (you could click on each one and they were all the Smail Max home page thing). GTAM wasn't specifically targeted. I assume they run some type of exploit scanner that compiles a list of hackable sites then they go to town. I tried to grab a screen cap of the site lists but it looks like facebook deleted his account.
Pretty much the exploit kits for VBulletin are pretty cheap out on the net. Also i just learned that you can pay Russians in bit coins to hack sites for you. There prices are also quite reasonable. What a funny place the internet is.
Let's still blame TAFB for the hacks.. It's a lot easier

Possibly unrelated to the hacks, but I'm getting really long GTAM page load times with it sitting on "connecting to connect.facebook.net..." 
North African, using Scandinavian proxies. At least that's what it looked like to me.
A lot of sites have a "forgot password" link that allows you to change the password, if you can access the account that was used to sign up with.

A lot of people use the same password, over and over again.
For those people, the hacker wouldn't need to request a new password by email then! I don't get how using the same email adds any weakness to my security either way.
Look at it this was. For most logins are two part user name and password.
for email addresses your login is often your email. That means the hacker has at least 50% of your required login details. That's how it's looked at from an IT perspective. Now the chances of the password being guessed might be relatively low (in fact the emails being sold to spammers is more of a risk) but it's still possible that you email could be brute forced or used for some kind of targeted phishing.
Do you have a PayPal account attached to your email address? eBay? Bank account?
Stop arguing with the "know it all guy", let him find out the hard way.
