Got 2k in my pocket.. what now? Or should I wait..

I'm riding one this year, and had forgotten how smooth the throttle response is
prior 3 bikes have been FI, and I guess I had been conditioned to the snatchiness

this one feels like an analog turntable
FI bikes feel like a CD payer

There goes that snatchiness thing again

A few bikes have started to show up with vacuum controlled slide valves on the fuel injection bodies, not sure if it's designed to smooth the throttle response for people who are throttle control challenged, or to make the things run even leaner and comply with the latest and greatest emissions rules.

So I am taking a serious hard look at that CBR600F4. From what I have heard from the seller and what he has sent me everything seems like this would be a good deal.
But I always have this nagging feeling like it could be to good to be true. Like why has it been on kijiji for sale for so long? Is it the distance, the mileage that's putting people off?
Why would this not sell? What do you guys think?

I am planning to talk to the mechanic who worked on it last, he showed me a bill of sale for some service(New chain and New Tires) and the bike is actually still being stored at the shop. So I might have a better idea tomorrow too.

Edit: If anyone is up for PMing me there number I could send you the start up and rev video he had sent me and you could give me your opinion. Thank you

I would assume it's still there because it's nearly 20 years old SS? It isn't very insurwnce friendly and there are newer SS' that people would rather get with newer tech that can afford the insurance. Adding even $600 opens a variety of ZX6Rs and Gixxers from closer to 2005

Most of these bikes have been taken off the road because the owner couldn't afford the insurance, once it's not plated you are looking at needing a vehicle certification to re plate the bike, insurance asks you if you've had bike insurance contiguously for the last several years and then suddenly the cost to put it back in service exceeds the value of the motorcycle.

Very few owners of obsolete, disused motorcycles store and maintain the bike even close to proper, every bit of rubber on it eventually needs replacing and then the thing becomes almost valueless.

Why would they unplate the bike? I know that you can buy a sticker for a vehicle that hasn't had a valid sticker for years with no safety required. As vehicle fitness and plates are separate issues, I would be slightly surprised if a new plate for the same owner triggered a safety.

A vehicle does not become UNFIT if the plates and/or insurance expired.

They are mutually exclusive.

No safety would be required to put it back on the road.

Where did this silly idea come from?

From my understanding, the bike is already certified, I just have to take the proof from the seller that is was certified within the last maybe X amount of days (I'm unsure exactly) and use that to get the bike plated. I'm pretty positive I do not need to go have it certified myself whether the seller still has his plates on it or not.

I still have my plate from my previous bike with the sticker that was just renewed back in May. I shouldn't have to really pay for anything but possibly the new plate to replace my folded old one.

It's a long drive to huntsville with only a limited window to pick it up without having to pay an extra $300 for transportation.. It's one of those if I am heading up there.. I will be coming back with a bike I don't want to waste my time driving there for nothing. From everything he has showed me, the bike seems legit. I'm going to talk to the mechanic who is storing it for him now to gauge a little more.

I think it could be a good buy and at least last me this season and all of next.. anything after that for the price would be gravy.

Safety cert is good for 36 days. Check the date he got it safetied and when you want to transfer ownership.

You only need a safety if transferring ownership. Even between family members.

Perfect, I will. I am going to talk to the mechanic who did the cert today. He also did work on it recently which the seller sent a picture of the bill of service. I can get a better understanding of it.

Long drive to Huntsvillle? I do that every few weekends to go to the cottage.
You could be there and back in less time than it will take me to get to see the bike my brother is thinking of buying

The drive isn't the issue. It's the availability of a vehicle for me. My parents have a great Honda Element with a hitch on it.. But they live in Hamilton and I am East York. They use it a lot over the weekend to as they have a boat and a cottage so I would need to take a day off work probably to go up to Huntsville...
The only other option is renting a truck or large van from Uhaul which will cost me $300+ with all those km.

Pre-172, I got super bored coming back from windsor. Traffic was light and we made very very good time. It shortened the length of the drive and gave me a reason to stake awake. It's just such a boring run. You have the right idea with sleeping.

So.. Talked to the mechanic.. got a quote on paper..

Mechanic said the bike is good. He looked it over, did some tests and did not see any issues with it, and that it was maintained well for the amount of km which he even thought wasn't that much. Cert did run out but they would do the cert again and it would pass it, so I would just get it done there again no issue.

As for the quote.. I dunno but I got really lucky.. without actual specific numbers.. my premium for the year would be sub $1k.. my payments per month would be under $100.. It is with one of the major providers... The only stipulation was that I would have to get another policy for Home or Auto insurance which I have neither a home or auto to insure.. BUT he was able to do with with Renters insurance which I was actually in the process of looking for anyway.

I think this is to good a chance to pass up... Guess I'll be going to Huntsville next week... Just gotta figure out how LOL

Truck rentals (1/2 tonne) from Discount are $118/day with 300km included. For an extra $10, you get unlimited km's. If you can fit it in a cargo van, it's only $80/day (probably $90 with unlimited km's). That's assuming you can piggy back on your existing auto insurance, if not you'll obviously have to pay a bit more for insurance coverage.
