Got 2k in my pocket.. what now? Or should I wait..

That's pretty much what I was thinking.. Even if it runs well.. what can happen 5k from now on something with that many km.

I'm taking a serious look at this one: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sport-bikes/barrie/1999-honda-cbr600-f4/1361590543

Thoughts?
I have spoken with him and he will be providing me more pics as well as a video of the start up, some reving.
From what he's told me and provided me so far the bike looks clean. It's fully certified and ready to ride..

Edit:
Initial insurance quotes put me at just under $2k for the year... is this to much?

How old are you/how long riding?

Is the 1999 bike carb'd?

I am 35, been licensed for about a year and a half, currently hold an M2.
Have had my G for well over 12+ years. Never had a speeding ticket, never had an at fault accident.
Ye this is the carb'd version. The F4i is the injected.

Did you get a quote for the FZ6?

OP stay off the bloody clip ons

You're a noob rider in a vicious city for motorcycles.

What is your inseam that you need it lowered.

That in not a lot of KM cept for GTA wimps.

I bought my 2010 Strom with 93,000 km on it for $3k and sold with 120k km for the same price

This is a durable mature model ...you just need to see maintenance records is all

MSFT all things considered I think you are getting exceptional rate quotes relative to my own.

Yeah at $2k for insurance that's not too bad.

Lowering the front only would be just for the clip ons.. but I think I am looking past the FZ6 for something with that style of handlebars... I know I live in a vicious city I don't think it will make much of a difference for me plus I've wanted to ride a bike with that style.. at least the CBR600 for that price would give me a chance to at least even for the rest of this year.
I may be a noob in regards to the amount of time I've had with my license but I logged a lot of KM on the bike last year and this year before I was hit from behind.. I'm not saying I am a pro by any means but I don't think I am that noob.. maybe noobISH lol
Also I am 6' tall.

I think so too.. cept my last broker tried to screw with me and quote me $3,500est for that CBR600.. Spoke to someone else and they said they can do it for $1,300est for the year

Edit: I dont think I should get high as hell insurance quotes.. I am a mature driver/rider with almost 20years driving experience with 0 at fault accidents and 0 speeding tickets or infractions of any kind.. always paid my insurance when I've needed it(was married before and had cars), never cancelled insurance, but other than that I feel like some of these insurers are looking at me like I'm some young punk thats gonna do wheelies up and down the 401 with my license plate masked.. I just want to ride.. period

$1,300 for the year for a CBR600 at 35 with an M2 seems low. if it's legit, go for it.

I'm with you. I expect that when the rubber meets the road the price will be much different (this seems to happen quite often, I wonder why there are no repercussions to the broker/agent?).

He's getting together a quote for me so I should have a written one shortly...
I will say the one stipulation he had was that I would need to get another insurance with them too.. Thankfully I have been looking for renters insurance at the same time and he should be able to work that into everything so I could get the price.
Again.. we'll see when I get the full written quote.
If he does quote me that low, I'll be taking an even more serious look at that CBR600F4 in Huntsville

May I ask which insurer quoted 2k ? I'm guessing cbr600 f4 is considered a Sport Tourer from insurance perspective, just like the zzr600. Wonder what the quote would look like for a cbr600rr.

Initially it was with TD... Spoke to someone at allstate that I was refered to and I'm just waiting for a written up quote.. something more official to see exactly the amount but he said it would be less before I purchase that bike or any other.

Not bad. it's the carbed version so doesn't have the plank of a seat the Fi version does.

Comparable to my Yamaha.

Not to bad I think. I think this bike as long as the insurance is decent would be a good bike for me. It does check off the things I am looking for. I personally would have rather the Fi version 2 years later but I'd rather ride right now then save another $500+

I figure I could get at least the rest of this season and hopefully all of next with something like this CBR600F4 and after that.. think about getting something else.

carbed bikes aren't that scary if they've been maintained
have a really good look inside the tank for cleanliness
it that's good and the bike runs fine there's nothing to be scared about
winter storage is the important thing, do that right and there's little to be worried about

A buddy of mine stored my old bike in his underground garage at his place. I would probably end up doing that to this one too. I had no issues starting my old bike up back in spring.. took about 10 kicks but I got her going.

Given the choice on a bike of questionable heritage, I would pick carbs. I know I can fix them. FI can be a bugger to fix yourself.

I'm riding one this year, and had forgotten how smooth the throttle response is
prior 3 bikes have been FI, and I guess I had been conditioned to the snatchiness

this one feels like an analog turntable
FI bikes feel like a CD payer
