From an Sv650s to Yamaha R1.. too big a jump?

Hey guys according to sport rider.com the 04 1000rr only does the 1/4 mile .3 seconds faster than an 05 600rr..... Pffft they're totally comparable bikes!!!!!

Magazine racers

Plus I think the r1 is one sexy bike

for me its more about the looks of the bike
performance of all s.s. and liter bikes are retarted..... in my opinion

Buddy I don't need to read magazines so I can be intelligent. I've owned almost every bike being discussed in this thread. Only an idiot would think a 600rr is comparable to an RC51 in terms of overall power and pull.

You often find yourself riding street with a magazine crew and timing equipment following you around? Lmao what a joke....

The guy wants a liter bike and you post up magazine times comparing a 10 year old RC51 to new 600s?? The numerical differences between all supersports are marginal at best. I can find lap times where 600s are faster than 1000s, does that mean it's a comparable bike? Hell no, you just have to ride them to answer that question yourself.

Keep on bench racing

only an idiot doesn't know how gearing/ratios and the lack of weight work.
The rc51 was on the list in question about top end.....and a 600 has a very similar top speed to an rc51 (yes I've owned most of those bikes as well and seen what top end they have at mosport thanks)
I even mentioned theres a big difference between vtwins.....go reread my post buddy.
The rc51 I listed and 600s I listed were similar vintage (2005 vs 2005 was one comparison actually)....i'm surprised an intelligent guy like yourself didn't catch that.
Oh, and u convieniently removed the 2005 Rc51 when u quoted me.....nice work!

I quoted you before you edited, cowboy.

Go race some more magazines

My Kone Fire Mountain has an excellent power to wieght ratio with me on it.

I'm at Mosport Every year seeing exactly what my bikes can do, are you?
Lol
(My stock cbr600rr did 251km/hr indicated, which is within a couple clicks of the rc51)
I find having 3rd party data to back up my statements to be beneficial......otherwise I'd have just an opinion, like yourself.

To the OP, did you decide yet? I say go for it.

I would love to get an R6 for my second season but with ~4,000km on the SFV650, she's barely broken in.

Like I said, I don't ride with timing equipment and an editorial crew from a magazine.

Secondly, you've latched onto the RC51, the porkiest least powerful of the bunch; yet its STILL a hoot to ride and way more fun and powerful than any 600. The guy in this thread is looking for a liter bike and you're giving him 1/4 mile times from a 600. I just gave you times of an 04 1kRR compared to an 05 600RR, its only .3x seconds quicker in the 1/4 mile... so what does that mean to the casual rider? Sweet f* all.

That's great, you're at 'Mosport every year'. Bring your 600 some place and I'll meet you with a v-twin with about equal power of an RC51 and we'll go for a rip around town; to see how you keep up on a bike that likely would post up similar 1/4 mile times and top speed as mine. And no, Im not "calling you out".

Do you really not know this? Lol

I can picture you 2 sitting at a bar, drinks in hand, calling each other idiots and laughing like fools at each other.

Take solace in the fact you are both track gods with infinite bike wisdom. Can't we all just get along? :)

Nobody even mentioned track until a few minutes ago

We can't argue about bikes in a motorcycle forum? Maybe you were looking for the "why don't cruisers wave to me!!" thread....

Now you're getting nasty!

Don't you ride a big v-twin?

Newsflash: you should get a 600.

Okay, that did make me laugh. I am WAY too lazy of a rider to be expected to rev my bike to redline before making any real power. Although this new 675 Brutale does look tasty.

I can see you haven't thought this all the way through......how are you going to prove anything when you get left behind? :-)

I just want the OP to make a well informed decision, and provided data about an RC51 since it was on his list. To the OP you can see in the data the RC51 hasn't got the performance to match a 4 cylinder litre bike, and is more closely comparable to a 600. Good luck with your decision

It's comparable on paper. But it's not comparable in feel. The 30 extra ft-lbs of torque are real and felt fully every time you twist the throttle. And that's my point.

I been to many demo rides and have found all bikes are a lot of fun from the cbr125 to the hayabusa.
Suggest you go to the demo rides or book a ride a dealer to find out for yourself if you really need an R1. I find magazine articals are for reference only.
I recently rode a frends SV650S and found it to be a great bike, corners well and easy to ride.
Cheers,
