F1 Thread!!!

well done to Nico...that was impressive stuff

hard luck for Kimi....Lotus better start improving strategies and pit stops.....that was horrible

you just can't predict this season so far...great stuff

Great indy race today too.

the failed F1 drivers (barrichello and sato) both blew it on the last lap. :lmao:

Hey... was that Leonardo DiCaprio that won the F1 race today?

Maybe the whole thing with Schumi is going to be a running joke and he posts a DNF for every race in the season.

Still ... very competitive grid today, it's going to be a great year for F1. Also funny out of all people that it's Webber that nearly endos his car again.

Why do the Pirellis shed rubber like a husky sheds hair? It was pretty ridiculous by the end.

F1 specifically wants tires that don't last too long because it adds an extra element of drama to the racing. It's not Pirelli's fault.

I have to admit, I've been impressed enough with the F1 this year that I have watched every race so far and will continue to do so. Sadly, the racing seems to be better (more drama, plenty of passing etc.) than MotoGP to a point that I look forward more to F1 weekend now than MotoGP one ..... (exception seems to be Moto2 race, but from technically side of things that one is boring due to the silly rule where everyone has to run CBR600 mill and control ECU). F1 must be doing something right ....

I guess the tri-combo of DRS+KERS+Degrading control tire = more interesting races. I wasn't a fan of the degrading tire first, but now I actually like it. It just shows who's got skill (rider and engineers) to keep the tire happy (instead of smoking it in every corner and still winning later) ... and as we saw it doesn't mean that the guy will be slow or slower. That's F1 though with four wheels .... I am not sure I'd like it in MotoGP to the same degree.

Tires that don't last forever is one thing, but these seems to accomplish everything by ablation. In the Michelin vs Bridgestone years, tires didn't last forever but they still didn't clutter up the track like these do.

Yeah it's hard to compare. Last weekend it was a big deal to run the tires more than 20 laps before they "fell off the cliff". But in the Michelin/Bridgestone days when there was refuelling, tires could go 2/3 of the race (30-40 laps) with only moderate performace loss.

EDIT:
Actually now that I think about it hasn't there been a few guys that have run the Pirellis on long one-stop strategies? Force India maybe? That might make a comparison possible. Will have to watch for that kind of low wear again and see what the marbles are like on a day like that.

You cannot compare tire wear from days of different rules (which means different engines with different power delivery, torque, downforce .... nothing is the same). then there's the track itself and its abrasion factor etc. Who know perhaps the tires from back then wouldn't even come close what the new ones can do .... just simply hard to get any sensible comparison.

No so good in qualifying though;)

Disaster for his teammate, although a kers problem was apparently the blame for him not being out for the last part of q1.

Looking forward to a close race tomorrow.

looks like there may be some "extra action" to watch out for as well.......

http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/21/world/meast/bahrain-unrest-f1/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

"When Bahrain canceled the race last year, it lost an estimated $480 million to $800 million of investment that would have come from hosting it."

Who says hosting F1 really isn't about the money?

Force India didn't stick around for fp2 yesterday for fears of arriving back to the hotel after darkness.

F1 has always been about the money.

I wonder how many people have to die for this race to take place? Guess we'll find out tomorrow. Sad

I don't think anyone has to die..I think that's a choice they make..

the Lotus team really needs to get their act together....the car looks like it's quick but they've messed up qually strategy, race strategy....and their pit stops are way too slow

qually today was kinda weird with the grandstands nearly empty and knowing that there is serious unrest outside of the track

Vettel was due for a pole

Huh? Suicide by dictator?

They chose to ramp up their protest because of F1. What difference does F1 make? When F1 leaves tomorrow, everything is fine? They're just using the occasion to try to garner attention. They could protest on Monday and it would have nothing to do with F1. God love them..they want to try to change their government, have at it.

Pretty much the only tool they have to try and affect change is international opinion. The army is too well paid to sway, and they don't play a big enough role in the economy to disrupt that either. There's no way Ecclestone wasn't advised of this. To me he has blood on his hands.

I suspect he needs to signal to all the other wealthy dictaroships where he's allowed F1 to stage races in the past few years that their investment in F1 is secure so they keep doling out his money.

Blood for money. It's an old story.
