I doubt the quality of the machine is any where as important as quality of the ingredients.

Sort of. The major ingredient in coffee is water. Having it hit the grounds at the right temperature (and ideally without being full of rubber) makes a difference. The fancy coffee maker has a copper boiler. The cheap ones have an aluminum tube connected by some janky rubber hoses.

I've had my Rocket Mozzafiato for about 3 years now. Really like it over drip. 50lbs of copper, brass, stainless! Best part is they are repairable. Not made of disposable plastic.
Luckily I'm the only coffee drinker in the house. Making coffee for larger groups is more of a challenge. Pull a bunch of espressos, pour in a carafe and add hot water. Doable but a bit of a pain.

That is the important consideration when you get a machine like a Rocket or such . Repairs ships actually fix them , not cheap , but repairable .

Pretty happy with the 2x LGs we bought just before covid. Went with the icemaker that's inside the freezer compartment and use a stainless steel candy scoop for the ice. 3yrs isn't really long enough to recommend them for reliability though.

Our ice maker in the Frigidaire took a poo a while ago. It only makes crushed ice, but won’t disperse ice cubes so need to take them out by hand like a pleb.

Thankfully wife or MIL don’t like ice in their drinks so I haven’t been force to upgrade yet.

Mine was in for a repair 2 months ago. Heating element. $220 all in. They had it for a week. Didn't think it was too bad.

I love my ~1950 Kelvinator. Quiet as a mouse. Never needed service. Took over for the noisier Inglis Citation (Now ~30 YO) on a couple of occasions. The ice dispenser on the Inglis is a pair of cheap tongs left in the freezer. The ice maker also washes dishes, dusts, does laundry and mows the lawn.

Out west my grandmother used to buy ice from the iceman for her icebox. An uncle used to work on the river in winter cutting the stuff and hauling it with horses. There was a huge ice house in town where the stuff apparently lasted all summer.

She would have been confused by an ice maker because she didn't have running water. "So I have to pump water into this copper tube and when I hear a clunk I get ice cubes. Then I pump some more?"

My stepfather grew up on a farm in Manitoba and there was no mechanical refrigeration. Stuff was kept cool in the well. Meats were salted. He was so used to heavily salted stuff anything he cooked tasted like brine.

We bought our Kitchenaid Professional Fridge and matching slide-in stove in 2020 and have had no issues with them and like them.

Pretty much any of the classic Italian semi-automatics (Gaggia Classic, Rancilio Silvia, etc) are like that and dead easy to work on.

Even my Breville Dual Boiler which has a lot more electronics and plastic compared to them is pretty reliable and easy to work on.

Opened back door yesterday at a Burlington customer home to the bedroom on a new modern build...2'x2' professional water dispenser in the wall you can put your big water bottle up to... I not sure I would install one. Water would probably get stale sitting in the lines if you didn't use it for a couple of weeks.

Repointed the stone pieces (I had to google what that term meant when it was mentioned here). Was easy enough. Directions mention to wet it a few times a day for 3 days. Any idea why?
Second question, there’s a few holes at the very bottom of the stones in the mortor about every few feet. Doesn’t look intentional although it just be done in a messy way. Are they supposed to be there or is it just more missing motor?

I have those as well on my house, They are weep holes.

Because bricks and mortar are porous, they absorb water that can seep through the bricks and then run down the backside of the bricks. If the water cannot drain, it could puddle inside the wall and potentially damage your home’s structure.

The difference in humidity on each side of the masonry can create dampness on the inside.the holes are air vents, they allow air to circulate up to the soffits, drawing moisture off the backside of the bricks. Without vents, moisture would accumulate in the wood sheathing behind the brick.

All siding (brick, stone, wood, vinyl, aluminum...) Is vented, the vents just look different.

Final touches on the JH trim, and ready to pull down scaffold tomorrow or Wednesday. Need to be back by end of week for no next month charge.

Super happy with that milestone but hot as poo on that scaffold today. Had to wait for sun to move and make me some shade up there

Cement takes 28 days to fully cure. The higher the moisture content of the Cement during that time, the stronger the fully cured cement will be.

Ever see a bridge deck being replaced, or other large concrete paving project and see wet burlap sheets draped over a poured section? Keeping it from losing moisture too quickly. Sometimes they will run a lawn sprinkler for a few hours a day on it.

Hey gang,

Do you have any tips or methods to get rid of chemical smell or area which has been impacted by chemicals.

Background, my cold storage room has some mold problems so I bought this spray and used it in there. The room was vented and I just shut the room and forgot about it. That was years ago. But for some reason the smell or chemical is still present and I'm trying to figure out a way to neutralize it.
Vent the room, heat, some neutralizing agent?
Ideas?

What was the chemical? Mould remover? A bleach?

Stay away from Samsung. LG linear compressors are nice and they have easy to access ice machines. Ours is pretty much perfect right now. French door model with door mounted slim ice maker. My only complaint is that the water dispenser doesn’t chill the water beyond the first cup but that’s being really whiny.

Most don't have a water reservoir. What looks like a reservoir at first glance is a coil of plastic tubing. Simple to manufacture and few fittings to leak. On the downside, maybe 0.5 litres of capacity and heat transfer is not rapid through the plastic.
