Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Most don't have a water reservoir. What looks like a reservoir at first glance is a coil of plastic tubing. Simple to manufacture and few fittings to leak. On the downside, maybe 0.5 litres of capacity and heat transfer is not rapid through the plastic.

My old POS Samsung had a reservoir but that was the only good thing about it. Really is a first world problem, I just need to expend the extra 0.000001 calories to put ice in the water…..from the built in ice maker.

Stay away from Samsung. LG linear compressors are nice and they have easy to access ice machines. Ours is pretty much perfect right now. French door model with door mounted slim ice maker. My only complaint is that the water dispenser doesn’t chill the water beyond the first cup but that’s being really whiny.

I’m also not a fun of Samsung fridges. GE has been good to me.

When we were researching our last fridge decades ago we found out two compressors covered almost all of the middle range fridges, both made in Brazil. For efficiency (Small and light) they rev up and are noisier than the old plods. My 40 YO air compressor is the same. It chugs. The new one howls.

It was a mold remover. I'll have more details later this week

So it will probably be bleach based as you say it smells. I’ve used mould remover before that was really stinky too. Just needed to air the place out a bit afterwards for me. Can you get a fan on the area? That will help.

Did it soak into anything porous? If it did it may take a while to go. You’d have to soak/mop the area and try to dilute the residue over time.

Other things to try in order of “violence”

1. A baking soda scrub. Make a paste, scrub the area.
2. Hydrogen peroxide. Wipe the area, see if it makes a difference. Wipe again etc.

Baking soda will make a mess but may help.

Bleach plus hydrogen peroxide gives you chlorine gas. Thats not what I would want in a semi-confined space.

And now it’s go buy a fridge weekend , ice maker in old unit froze , repair guy came , flooded kitchen, came back , fixed flooded kitchen, fixed dripping . No beuno, old unit is kitcheaid , wife likes but she has picked a frididaire . Anyone with a love/ hate brand ?

We have a Frigidaire and we have had it for a few years, maybe since 2016. We keep it simple, we have the one that gets really cold in the freezer section and a little less cold in the fridge section, nothing more.

No ice maker or water dispenser and IMO and many other people I know actual experience. It is just not worth the extra source of water leaks in the kitchen and limits the lifespan of the appliance by adding complicatorionism. Really cold in the freezer and a little less in the fridge that is the key.... but some will just need the luxury appliance experience, my wife could care less.

Just like our washing machine, all I want is to put dirty clothes and detergent in and get wet clean clothes out... I want the one with that feature.

We had extremely bad experience with Whirlpool customer service in the past so we try our best to avoid those brands but that gets harder and harder to do.

The difference in humidity on each side of the masonry can create dampness on the inside.the holes are air vents, they allow air to circulate up to the soffits, drawing moisture off the backside of the bricks. Without vents, moisture would accumulate in the wood sheathing behind the brick.

All siding (brick, stone, wood, vinyl, aluminum...) Is vented, the vents just look different.
100%.

The inserts for the brick are also designed to be too small to let bees/wasps in to nest in the space behind it. Don't remove them out seal them.

One caution for those out there, it is brick "siding" on stick construction that has this not usually double/triple brick. I have seen home inspections flag double brick for having the vents closed....there never were vents on that vast majority of the builds, maybe all (never seen them in double brick myself but I have not seen every house ever built....). The building system are different and works different (material, dew point etc.).

we have a Fridigaire coming Thursday, it will have water / ice in thge door . We are both a bit lazy and dont drink enough water, cold at hand may help us. Our insuarnce company did tell us water supply to fridge is the #1 claim right now so there is that.
side by side fridge doors, smaller freezer (we have an upright freezer in thbe basemnet so dont need that much storage ) . It was 1k less than what appeared to be an identicle Kitchenaid ( which I liked better) , but taxes/del/ removal of old unit was $3,200 all in. Thats ok

Another long overdue project almost done... Our wrought iron front railing is original to the house. I restored it a decade ago by replacing many rotted/rusted out sections and making all new posts as all were embedded in the concrete/stone and were rotted out at the bottom (now all have 1/4" plates bolted to the stone). Then it was damaged years ago when we had the driveway done and parts of it were cut off, we had some sections missing, some sections bent and some broken. I finally broke out the metal fab tools and welder on the weekend...

Before this weekend.

After this weekend.

I made up two new posts for the bottom step (same as the top ones I made years ago, new material and 1/4" plate to bolt to the stairs, and repaired and modified the rest to get it back together. I still need to do some minor touch ups and I need to find some iron/steel finials for the two posts (to replace the spray can lids...). If anyone has some or an old fence or railing with them that is being removed, let me know--must be steel/iron! The original railing only had four and I used them on the top posts....

I will be fixing/repointing the stones/concrete this coming weekend.

The iron fence you see at the side we did a few years ago by taking a 5+ foot used pool fence and cutting it down, welding it back together modifying it as a front yard fence that is now 41" tall.

This last picture is crappy but the railings originally came down past the bottom step and then went to the sides. The railing originally had all the posts embedded in the stone/concrete--and they were pretty much all rotted out there. Those side sections are not going back in.

Listing 1 Zoom.jpg

I was putting this one off (years :( ) as it was a huge PITA to get everything back in and looking normal. Took about 12 hours of fitting and fiddling around and 20 minutes of welding.... Of course as the railing was repaired and not replaced... it does not meet code (42")--the way I want it.

Spray can lids and they fit really tight inside and outside the tubing. Just there so no one cuts their hands until.....

I need to find steel finials to finish those off!

I did a similar handrail off my deck. I ran the hand-railing over the top of the posts then curved down the ends.

It's way safer when sliding down the banister.

That was what the ends were originally but I opted to increase the post size from the original 1" to 1.5"... top rails are 1" wide so I cannot curl them over and cover the entire post.

A finial at the end will also discourage me from getting out the old skate board and grinding the rails....

If it’s chlorine bleach based then yes. Acid plus chlorine bleach is worst.

If it smells like chlorox just use water and lots of it.

Edit: ok sodium hypochlorite is a common ingredient. Don’t use peroxide. Just use lots of water and a mop. Dry afterwards with a fan. Ventilate well and it should go eventually.

What was the total rental cost?

What was the total rental cost?
I left the invoice in the car, but will check later today against the credit card as they accidentally double charged 2x in a single month so the charge was reversed last week. I'll be confirming that as well.

It's below 3k for the full rental I believe.

In hindsight, should've bought the scaffold used somewhere and now re-sold it once I finished with it. Live and learn.
